Present day

Amaya:

"What's that?" I quickly snatch the piece of paper from my desk and hold it to my chest.
"I saw it! Maya!" Prudy squeals.
"Shhh." I shush her and look out my open door.
"Your father already left. He's supposed to meet a prospective suitor today." My face fall at that. Trust my father to set my life for me.
"Don't let that dampen you now . Show that to me." She snatches the paper from my hand.
"Give that back!" She runs into the bathroom and lock herself in. I bang on the door.
"Prudy! Come out here and give that back!" I yell.
"You know I won't." She giggles from inside.
"Anyone would think you are the employer here." I say exasperated. She just laughs. I roll my eyes. Of course I can't fire her. She's the only real friend I've had even though she's just the daughter of my nanny. She's more real than the rich snubs dad prefers I hang out with.
"Naughty girl!" The bathroom door pulls open and Prudy comes out smiling like a roasting goat. Eat chocolate! Your father would go ballistic. He wants you to keep your figure minimal." She laughs and I shrug.
"It's a stupid list I made while I was dying years ago

. The Brain tumor must have been messing with my head." I try to get the paper back but she backs away.
"I have an idea." She brightens at once and I shake my head.
"Nah-uh. Your ideas are never good." She doesn't even look offended by my claim. She actually looks proud.
"You have to live for once! Before your father finds you a rich snub who cages you for life." She has a point about the rich snub.
"I am living right now." I defend. She eyes me.
"Look. This should be fun. We mark off everything on this list before you get married." Prudy hurries to my table and grab my pen. She starts scribbling on the paper.
"Help yourself to it." I murmur. She doesn't pay me any attention. I peek from behind her to see what she's doing.  She has canceled out half of the title. It used to be 'Things I'll do if I survive cancer.' The blank ink of my biro has completely sealed the part about cancer.
"You have survived cancer." She says without looking back at me." I nod slowly. I really hope I have. The memories of all those pain still makes my skin break out sweat. The worse was dad's disappointment, like I made myself sick.
"I like this part about kissing a stranger." she says thoughtfully. I blush behind her.
"A stranger would be much better or else your father would find out and you're dead." She turns around to appraise me.
"More reason why we should throw the list out." I try to take the paper back but she block me with her hand.
"No. There's a reason you brought it out after all." I blink guiltily.
"Is there something you aren't telling me?" Of course she knows me too well. I finally grab the paper from her.
"Nothing. I just thought to look at it since I dad is hellbent on getting me married." I lie. I had an episode last night. I think the tumour is back. I don't say anything else though.
"More reason why we have to live the list!" Prudy gets off my chair and grab my shoulder.
"We should start with the easy stuff. Wear sneakers to work." My eyes bulge out at this.
"Nah. I don't think you can handle your father." She bursts into laughter at my expense. I bat her hands off my shoulder.
"Ouch!"
"I'm so sorry. Are you hurt?" I panic before she giggles.
"You're too good a person. So unlike your father." I wince.
"That's a good thing." She assures me. I nod even though I'm still not sure of that.  sometimes I wish I was more like him. Maybe he'll be proud of me. Even though I'm a girl.
"We'll start with the chocolate part. No, a visit to your mother's grave should be the perfect beginning to our little adventure." Prudy says thoughtfully. I raise my brows at her.
"We just have to avoid your dad's body guards. The chocolate part isn't that hard. We can go somewhere your father would find out and you put some chocolate in your stomach right after you visit your mother. You need fattening up actually." I self consciously brush my skirt.
"I'm sure there's an ass and great boobs under those layers of clothes." She teases and I blush. I like covering up. I stand out less.
"Even a girl makes you blush. The kissing a stranger part looks more impossible by the seconds. The rest part of that list that involves the opposite sex, I'm afraid can't be accomplished by you." I slap her shoulder lightly, making sure not to hurt her. She only laughs harder.
"Would you stop?!" I snap.
"Okay. Okay." She wipe the corner of her eyes.
"I'm glad I can amuse you." I pout.
"I'm sorry. You're just so cute. You know I love you right?" She appease. I smile a little.
"Enough of stalling. Let's go. I'm sure I can get you out of the house without anyone noticing." She says. I start to fidget.
"You can't get out of this. I'm dragging you out." I groan under my breathe as she takes my hand and pull me out the room.

"Damn! Don't panic but I think your father's car just drove past. He's slowing down. He probably recognizes your car!." I freeze. What!
"I said don't look back!" Prudy grinds out. I fidget in front of mother's grave.
"I'm so dead Prudy. This is why I never go along with your ideas." I grumble.
"Trust me to get you out of here. He can't see us yet. Go that way!" She points to the little house At the back of the grave yard that looks more than a little creepy.
"Go!" She snaps when I don't move.
"But the car."
"I'll take care of it. His car just pulled into the grave yard. Go!" She shove me not too hard which gets my legs moving. I try not to think about what my father might do to her and run for the little house. I spy my father matching to mom's grave with one of his guard behind him. Cold sweat break out on my skin. The guard looks around and I quickly duck. My heart in my mouth. The adrenaline pumping through me at this moment is like none I've ever felt before. I feel so alive.
My head comes up to spy Prudy and my father and I find the guard coming my way. I don't think twice before I take the small path from the little house and run for my dear life.
With my heart pounding like never before I finally hit a busy street but I don't stop running. He could have followed me. I wonder where I'm running to but don't stop to think. Until I collide into a hard body. I clench my eyes in horror of my imminent fall. Strong hands wrap around my waist instead and my eyes slowly blink open. I gasp. He's beautiful. He's otherworldly in short and I kiss him. Time seem to stop for seconds? Hours? I don't know or care.

. Oh Christ. Is this how good a kiss should feel? The electricity buzzing against my lips is making my head swim. I'm rudely thrown out of cloud nine when the stranger snaps out of his shock and let's go of me. I literally crash to the ground. "Ouch!" i yell
"What did you do that for?!" He yells. I brush the sand off my butt and stand to my full height which isn't much by the way. He's impossibly fall.
"You nearly killed me! I just took the apology I need!" I all but snap. The woman watching us looks ready to laugh at any minute. His wife?! What have I done?!
"Are your country women always this crazy?" He asks and my blood fires.
"Excuse me!" I snap and stamp hard on his feet before storming away. I must have lost my mind in that kiss.
