Mirage - Episode 37

 

Ivy:

"Yes. The theme should be pink and blue. The flowers and cake should match. That would be fabulous. Thanks." I hang up the call with the event organizer for my wedding and I can't help but smile giddily. Everything is just going as planned. I would be able to finish up at work tomorrow so I can surprise Noah at the beach house.
  I would get my s-ductive game on and he wouldn't know what hit him. I say a silent thank you to God who has made all these happen for me before I push my key into my door and push it open.

  I drop my bag on the glass table in he center of the living room then flop on the couch . Stayed all night at the office and I am just here to take a quick shower and change my clothes. My phone starts ringing the in my hand again. The name flashing on my screen makes me sit upright on the couch.
"So?" I ask impatiently.
"Umm ma'am" he sounds nervous and I don't like this.
"What is it? Have you gotten their marriage certificate?" I ask.
"No"
"What do you mean no? You said you could get the only copy at the registrar's office or something. I paid you a lot to get it for me!" I spit down the phone. I can't get married to Noah if his marriage to Minerva is still valid but if I can get that document and burn it, it would be like the wedding to Minerva never happened.

. I just met my contact there but he couldn't find it. He said someone already came for it just this morning."
"What! Who could have collected it?" I don't like the sound of this at all. Could it have been Minerva? But why collect it now after three months? Does she know Noah is alive? No no no.
"Can't you find out who took it?" I ask
"I already did ma'am"
"So?"
"I only got a name. A Victor." At the mention of that name, the phone just slips off my finger and luckily falls on the couch.
"No, no, no. I had him killed." My palms are already sweaty and sweat beads on my fore head.
"Hello? Ma'am"
I pick the phone back and place it back to my ear.
"Umm thank you attorney." I say and end the call. Something is so not right.
  I quickly search for that idiot's number and dial. I told him to get rid of Victor. Why then is victor still alive and well? Victor is going to end me! He knows all I have done! No. He can't be alive. I just have to confirm it from this fool.
"Hello madam"his deep voice answer.
"You killed him right?" I ask without any preamble.
"What?" He sounds confused.
"Victor! Damn it!" I scream down the line. I can feel my mind slipping away from me. I need to get it together. The silence on the other side of the phone tells me what I don't want to hear.
"You didn't? He was already unconscious when I left the both of you! How did an unconscious man get away you idiot!" I yell at him.
"There was a woman. She__"
"What woman?" I cut him off
"She was wearing an hospital gown but my god she was fast. One minute I was dragging Victor into my car to get rid of him somewhere quiet and another minute she burst out of nowhere and beat the hell out of me. She took him. I couldn't tell you because I know you wouldn't like it. But__"
"Shut up! Just shut the f-ck up! What other but is there but the fact that you are a moron!" I yell at him.
"I followed them madam. They went straight to the airport. I checked the flight they boarded and it was to the States. I knew they wouldn't bother you anymore so I_"
"They wouldn't bother me? That man is going to ruin everything. He's still alive and he's in the country right now. How stupid can you be?" I ask
"Just one more chance. I would get him and kill him."he says and I sigh down the line.
"Forget it. You are on your way to abraka right?" I ask and he grunts his answer.
"Good. Now I want you to keep a close eye on Noah. Don't let Victor, Minerva or that woman you said attacked you get close to him. Do you understand me?"I ask.
"Yes ma'am."
"Idiot" I say before ending the call.

  This is a disaster. My wedding is only three weeks away and I can't let everything crumble on my head. I need to lure Victor out. He was meant to die three months ago and this time, I would make sure I do it myself.

  Ding dong ding dong ding dong.

"Gosh I am coming. You don't have to burst my ear drums" I snap at whomsoever is at the door. I peek through the door hole and see a mail man at the door. Who sends mail anymore?
  I push the door open and watch the man with narrowed eyes. He's wearing a face cap and his eyes are focused on the ground even as he stretches a package towards me.
"A package for ivy Barnabas." He says in a suspiciously weird voice. It's just like he's masking his voice. He hands me a pen and I take it and sign the paper he hands me. He takes the paper then hands me the package still avoiding eye contact.
"Wait. Do I know___" I trail off as he bolts off without looking back. Strange. I look down at the package in my hand and I can't help but find the package suspicious. Could it be an explosive? No, it's too light to be a bomb. I unwrap the package carefully and what I find inside freezes me. There's dead ivy flowers inside the package. What the hell! I drop the package on the floor and a paper falls off.  My shaky hands pick the paper up.

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID ON THAT YATCH. I AM WATCHING YOU. YOUR TIME HAS COME TO PAY.

   The chilly harmattan breeze blows around me but I am burning hot. I am soaked in my own sweat. Victor! No wonder he looked familiar. I should have grabbed him when I had the chance but I was so distracted. Shit! I have to do something and fast.

Minerva:

  My tummy grumble and I remember that I haven't eaten anything this morning. Noah has been gone for almost three hours now and I am getting impatient. I walk to the kitchen and rummage around for something to eat. There's bread and chocolate but no milk. I have some change to spare. I should just go out and get some milk. I have to eat because I know I am going to need my strength to face Noah.

   I grab my sweatshirt and my purse then head out the house. I lock the  door securely before heading to the only small kiosk around. Disadvantage of leaving Here, there's no houses or stores nearby. It's just few minutes past eight and it's still quiet and foggy.

  I feel my skin prickle and stand on end and I feel like I am being watched. I look around the lonely area and it hits me that I could be attacked here and no one would even hear my screams. Eliza and her family live behind our house and they can't see anything here from over there.

  I don't see anyone around but I pick up my pace. A lone figure appear in front of me and I squint my eyes to see who it is. Noah?
  My heart beat increases its pace and I feel like my panic attack is on the horizon. Maybe I should just turn back. I turn back quickly and increase my pace. I can hear the footsteps behind me increasing its pace too. I turn a bit to see if he's still following me and I see the ominious smile on his face. That is so not Noah. I don't know why but I start running. I can see the Man in my peripheral vision running after me and I go dizzy with fear. who the heck is he? I don't stop to ask him though, I keep on running but I can feel him getting closer. His long legs bring him closer to me in minutes and before I know it, he slams his fist to the back of my neck.

. The force pushes me forward and I land on the ground. He starts walking towards me and I crawl away from him. I tries to grab me but I kick his leg and he falls to the ground. He tries to grab me still. We struggle on the dusty road. His weight gives him an advantage and he pins me to the ground.
"Get off me! Who are you!" I scream desperately kicking and squirming under him.
"Shut up!" He lands a blow across my cheeks and I groan in pain. I can taste blood in my mouth.
His hands cover my mouth and I am losing air fast.
  I bite down on his hand. Hard. His scream echoes around us and I quickly stand up to run for my life.
  I don't go far though before I hear the gunshot and blood spread over my shirt. I vision go hazy and I collapse on the ground.

" help. Noah." I moan before he lands another blow to my gut.
