Finally.
He was going to get the woman of his own caliber. This was the wedding he had dreamed for. Abigael was such a beautiful woman, the one ornament he could parade around when invited to company parties or on events with friends. He adjusted his suit. He knew he looked dazzling today. He also knew without doubt that her soon to be wife would appear like an angel she truly was.
He had been disappointed with Dorcas . He had to bear seventeen years of living with that woman, but now alas! He was free. Free to become the man he believed he was. He looked at his watch. It was 10.00 am.
Anytime now, Abigael would come from that church door. He smiled thinking of the spectacle they would give their guest. Such a beautiful public display of an act of love. He leaned slightly and whispered to his best man’s ear.
“Can you call and ask how far away they are.”
Before they could do anything, murmurs started arising from the back of the church. All eyes turned to face the entrance of the church. Abigael appeared, dressed in a white hoodie, black pencil trousers and white sneakers. Her hair was up in a messy burn. Everyone’s eyes was on her as she made her way towards Christopher.
“This couldn’t be good, this must be really bad.” Christopher thought to himself as he watched Abigael approach him.
It was happening too fast. He worked on steadying his breathing that was way out of line and staying as calm as possible

. He looked at his best man and from his expression he was just as surprised as he was.
She edged closer.
Their eyes met and she quickly shifted hers.
“Abby why are not in your gown?” Christopher asked in an authoritative voice.
“What’s happening?” He asked yet another question.
After a period of silence Abigael finally spoke.
“There is no wedding Chris.”
“Abigael you are joking right?”
“If my white hoodie and sneakers did not communicate anything, read my lips. I brought back your ring.” She said removing the engagement ring from her fingers.
“Abigael let’s talk about this, where is this coming from?”
“I know the truth about Dorcas.”
“What truth? This is me Christopher talking to you what wrong have I done against you love?”
“You lied to me about the circumstances around your separation with your ex-wife.”
“You talked to Dorcas? She only wants to separate us. Can’t you see that?
“Oh I see clearly Chris, very clear. I know you abandon your family in youthful pursuits. I believed you loved me but in real sense you are in love with the idea of being with me.

Christopher rubbed the back of his head thinking of a defense he could throw but there was none. He had noticed that Abigael had been aloof the past few days but he had assumed that it was due to the pressure the wedding had been putting on them.
“Abby are you being serious about this, can we at least talk?” Christopher made a last desperate attempt.
He could feel the tensed atmosphere building around the church. This was so humiliating, he would be the talk of town. This was supposed to be their beautiful day. Now an ominous cloud of shame was slowly forming over his head.
“Take your ring, I don’t want it.” Abigael said handing over the ring she had. Chris’ best man took it.
“I love you Abigael.” Chris said in the verge of tears.
“I loved you till I saw your own flesh and blood lying in a coma. I realized I was in bed with the monster and was in love with a sadist.”
Christopher’s eyes bulged out more.
“Goodbye Chris.”
She turned to leave. As she made her way towards the church door her footsteps echoed on the marble floor. Chris’ eyes did not even blink. Everyone was unusually quite till she reached the church door then the silence broke.
The best man look at his groom. All the color on his face was drained.
He was having a taste of his own pill.
