Returned - Episode 7
Federal Government Scholarship (BEA) 2021-2022 Application Form
“Double up, Gaines! Double up!” the coach shouted at me.
I tried to run as fast as I could and played as I always did, but, my head was not in the game. It was elsewhere. All I could think about was Elizabeth Shaw. I couldn’t stop thinking about her and how much I really desired to clear things up between us. The guilt was having its toll on me and I couldn’t control it.
I’ve been acting mean to her, hoping it would somehow help me deal with my conscience but, it was making things worse. What transpired between us at her house the other day was still fresh in my mind . I knew she must have cried her eyes out, and today, I heard of what happened at the Cafetaria with Emily . James had fed me everything. For no reason, I tried to find her and had instead found her with Matt. Damn that man, why did he have to always be the hero?
“Gather round, everyone,” the coach announced and we all came together.
The weather has turned cloudy and it seemed it would rain. The school had already closed about an hour ago.
“Let’s meet tomorrow, same time.”
Everyone dispersed as the coach left.
“So, how’re you doing, man?” Killian asked, brushing me at the elbow. I despised him with passion

. James also approached us with some other boys.
“I’m good, sup?”
“So, are you interested in some other game of truth or dare?” Killian asked.
That was how it had started with Elizabeth .
“Why would I be interested in that?” I asked,
Kilian chuckled. “Well, some of the boys here are beginning to think that you are growing softer by the day, due to the arrival of the girl you played the last time.”
“Why would they think that?” I demanded, raising my voice and trying not to get angry than necessary.
“Well, who knows? We need a ruthless Captain, don’t forget that. If you grow weak, you might not be good for the team and probably, you can step aside and let someone else….”
“I think that’s enough, man. C’mon,” James intervened.
Killian laughed. “Well, heavy lies the head that wears the crown,” he said with a shrug. “You might still need to prove to the team, as I did last week. Just watch your back, man.”
I watched as he left with some part of the team, I really wasn’t in the mood to start a fight.
“C’mon, let’s go home,” James said and I followed.
I stood up from where I sat in front of the school, the weather has grown really darker and the weather has become cloudy. The breeze was beginning to whistle so I grabbed my books and threw into my bag. Knowing I would certainly be the only one at home, I had decided to stay behind and finish all my assignments.
By the time I got out of the campus, it was already raining in small droplets. I tried to be run but the rain caught up with me. It descended down on my head in heavy torrents. I had to put my bag on my head. There were no places for me to hide from the rain, all I could do was keep walking, with the hope of getting a bus any moment. However, no bus came and no car stopped to help. Knowing I was on my own, I pressed on.
Water clogged in my shoes and my hair stuck on my skin, I was blinded by the heavy downpour but I was relieved when a car stopped beside me.
I scurried towards it but stopped on seeing whose car it was. I simply walked on.
“Are you crazy?” Vance shouted, driving slowly along beside me. He lowered the window of the car. “Get into the car.”
“No!” I screamed proudly at him. I would rather die in the rain than get in the car with that asshole.
“Fine, have it your way then,” he bellowed and then drove a bit farther ahead of me. I stopped as he parked and climbed out of the car.
I waited, ready to defend myself but I was caught off-guard when he swept me in his arms and carried me bridal-style.
“What the hell are you doing?” I struggled but his grasp on me was really strong. Before I knew it, he shoved me into his car and then locked the door.
I couldn’t deny how relieved I was being out of the rain but I was never going to admit that.
He got into the driver’s seat and turned on the ignition key.
For some time, neither of us spoke, I was actually not in the mood for that. I was really so tired and wasn’t ready to waste any more energy in bickering. I decided to close my eyes for a while….
I was surprised she didn’t accuse me of abduction when I brought her into my car. I didn’t look at her for one second until we were in front of her house. By the time we got to her house, the rain had stopped. I waited for her to open the door but she didn’t. This prompted me into looking at her and was surprised when I realized she was asleep.
For a while I looked at her and the only thing that came to my mind was how beautiful and innocent she looked. I felt a quick stab in my heart, knowing I hurt someone as innocent as she was.
I sighed. I thought of waking her up but that was when I noticed she was trembling.
Taking my jacket from back seat, I wrapped it around her and then climbed down from the car, knowing the only thing I could do without waking her up would be to carry her into the house.
WELL, NOW, YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED....IMAGINE YOU'RE ELIZABETH AND YOU WAKE UP WEARING HIS JACKET, WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST, LOL, LET'S LAUGH SMALL...ME, I WILL SCREAM MY HEAD OFF, THEN USE SOME DISINFECTANT!
