The Twist - Episode 46

 

Hello my Lovely people. I am so sorry for the delay. I got committed to a movie scripting project immediately after my birthday so I have to focus all my attention on it. I have really missed you guys and I am of the opinion you all missed me too (*winks) back to our wonderful story, I hope the wait has come to an end so enjoy the Epilogue.

Mark sighed and stared at the stained wall of the prison.

He remembered the beating he received from the security officers that accompanied Chief B.C Okpara to his residence that faithful day Amaka died and winced.

His broken ribs and limbs felt as if hot irons were being placed on them.

The head injury Amaka received had been fatal and she had died on the spot.

The Self made billionaire on seeing his only daughter had wept like a kid while the enraged security men punched away their anger on Mark's body.

So this is it.

All his money, all his investment, all he laboured for, his career and reputation had plunged down head first.

In a few days he will cease to exist to the living world.

His father in-law had employed the service of a senior advocate to make sure he did not come out of the case alive.

The judge; after hearing the verdict, had sentence him to death by hanging.

The door opened and a police officer accompanied by a prison warder came in and grabbed him.

They hurled him to his feet and guided him out of the smelly hole.

They pushed him inside another room with a glass partition at the middle.

A bright light lit up the place and Mark paused when he saw the people waiting for him.

Standing on the other side of the glass was Nkiru with a little boy of about 4 years old.

Nkiru stood there with tears flowing freely from her cheeks.

"Mark so this is where you ended up? Look at what you did to our love. All because of money

. Anyway I brought your son Mark Jnr to see you. I gave birth to him after you abandoned me and got married to your wife. I traveled to Ghana because I can't stand the ridicule and mockery"

Mark felt a sharp pricking of needle in his heart and suddenly collapsed on the thick floor.

He felt dizzy and the heaviness in his heart is too much for him.

He was in agony.

He looked up and stared at the little boy.

His bright eyes, the nose and firm mouth reminded him his childhood pictures.

Then Dr. Uche came inside the room with Chidimma.

The young girl only glance at him and began to cry.

"Daddy... daddy where is mummy? Please daddy come back home. Daddy please come back home."

Mark could not hold back his tears.

He wept like a baby.

"Mark I am so sorry. I tried to save you from this but you were so obsessed with money and fame. I am glad I saved Chidimma's life by transferring my blood to her. My blood matched hers. Thanks to the doctor who understood the situation and did the needful."

Dr. Uche said.

Mark raised his bruised face up and glared at Dr.

Sobbed Mark.

Nkiru wiped her tears and said a little prayer for Mark.

The little boy stared blankly at the strange man on the ground crying.

The man wanted to touch him but the glass partition made it impossible for him. Nkiru slowly guide the boy away and walked out of the room.

"Daddy come home please. I am afraid"

Chidimma continued to cry in her high pitched voice as Dr. Uche held her tight.

He consoled her and half carried her out of the room.

Mark wept his heart out.

The warder grabbed him and dragged him back to his cell.

Bashir POV...

The action of Chief B.C Okpara had baffled Bashir.

He was sitting on the bonnet of an army truck and holding a thick brown envelope in his hand. It contained documents and legal papers from solicitors managing the Bestcop Estates.

The Billionaire had willed his entire estate to him and had asked him to quit security job in order to enjoy his new life.

He glanced at the fat envelope again and shrugged.

If that's the way the old man wanted it, no qualms.

He will treat himself to an expensive vacation and maybe get himself a wife.

He jumped down from the bonnet, entered the truck and drove towards the airport...

From Stella's POV...

The words of the female Judge still echoed on her ears as she sat on the dark corner of her new prison.

"You are a disgrace to womanhood."

The Judge had said

"I would have gone beyond my judgement to punish you because kidnapping is a federal offence but I will temper justice with mercy. You are sentence to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour."

Stella closed her eyes and opened them again.

She looked around the tiny room with the smelly bed that was heavily infested with blood sucking bed bugs and felt a warm stream of tears cascading down her cheek.

Her husband Dr. Uche has not been to the court to hear the last judgement and had went further to prepare the divorce paper during her trial.

Her life is totally coming to an end. 15 years!!!

From Jake's POV...

Jake came out of the bamboo bar with two glasses of coconut drinks and looked across the beach.

Ruby's outlined figure was unmistakable under the sun umbrella.

He stared at the beautiful curve of her broad hip and murmured she was the most desirable girl on earth.

He walked towards her and admired what he saw.

Ruby smiled at him when she saw him and sat up from the mat.

He joined her on the mat, handed her one of the glasses and stretched his awesome body on the mat.

"Do you ever think of anything else than this coconut drink?"

Ruby asked him and Jake grinned.

"I always have you on the back of my mind night and day"

Ruby laughed happily, leaned forward and kissed him.

"I love you Jake. You just made my dream come true."

She sipped her drink and stared at the blue sea.

"When are we going back to Africa?"

Ruby asked him suddenly.

"I don't feel like going back there sweetheart. It held so many unpleasant memories for me. Let's settle down here and see what God have in stock for us."

Jake replied her.

He had made plans to open an African restaurant in one of the obscure streets in Miami USA.

He have a lot of money.

From the millions he made from the sales of the house and the expensive Jaguar, he was sure life in America will be much fun than what he anticipated.

Ruby suddenly splashed the coconut drink on his face and quickly took off towards the sea; giggling as she ran.

Jake watched her behind with growing desire as she ran gracefully and quickly raced after her with the speed of a cheetah...
