The Twist - Episode 2

 

Dr. Uche was on his way out when Mark stirred his new SUV towards the hospital car park and stopped.

He came down and whistled Dr. Uche's name.

"Wait a minute. Mark!"

Dr. Uche screamed.

Mark was dressed in a black suit and red tie with a pair of brown Crocodile skin shoes. 

He looked what he was; A nollywood superstar.

Dr. Uche embraced him happily.

"Wow! You are really enjoying yourself . Amaka must be very kind to allowed you drive one of his father's cars"

"Who said this car belonged to the Okparas?"

Mark asked Dr. Uche with a smile.

"Don't tell me you are the owner of that car because I knew you can't afford a motorcycle"

Dr. Uche said and admired his friend's car the more.

"Well, fortunately I am the owner. just a few weeks of meeting Amaka my lifestyle has changed for good. She introduced me to her father last week after I proposed to her. The old man knew me after all and was very happy her only daughter is getting married to someone like me."

Mark explained.

"So you are serious about this girl? what of Nkiru? you guys had been lovers for 3 years now. I thought you are planning marriage with her?"

. Uche. Mark sighed and wiped his face with a white handkerchief.

"Uche I don't really know how to say this but Nkiru is being difficult. Maybe you should help me talk to her."

Mark said as he remembered what transpired between him and Nkiru.

He had went to her apartment one evening to break the news to her after Chief B.C Okpara promised to make him the overall general manager of his hotels.

He had tried his best to convice Nkiru to tag along but she won't hear any of it.

"Mark I love you with all my heart. please don't do this to me."

Nkiru had sobbed but Mark grabbed her and shook her.

"Pull yourself together Nkiru. This is my only chance of hitting it big. Just hang on, allow me to marry this girl and I promise you, you won't lack anything. I came to give you the some of 1 million naira and the moment I marry her, I will give you more money. Think of what you will do with all the Money!"

Mark had said.

"No! I don't want money! I want you Mark!"

yelled Nkiru.

"No, you need money and there are still more to come if you cooperate. Darling this man is rich. You will have enough money to build a house, buy cars and even afford to buy your own man. Nkiru listen to the voice of reasoning. We can pull this off together!"

Nkiru had kneeled down in front of Mark and held him by the leg.

"Honey please.

. let us leave this city and go back to Enugu. We can find a good apartment there and get married. You can continue with your acting while I find a small job that will keep us going. Don't marry that girl because of her father's wealth. Trust in God, He will bless you in no distant time."

Mark who had made up his mind laughed.

"But God has already blessed me. Can't you see? I am going to be the biggest boy in town and no one can compete with me!"

When he noticed Nkiru still maintained her stand he had given up and explained to Nkiru he is going ahead with his marriage plans.

Amaka is the only offspring of Chief B.C Okpara and marrying her will automatically make him the heir apparent to the Billionaire's empire.

The thought of owning the entire estates, Cement Factories, companies, Shipping lines, Hotels and most importantly the oil well of this Eastern Nigeria billionaire hardened his heart and without remorse; He pushed Nkiru out of his way and walked out of her one room apartment.

Nkiru had cursed him, telling him that he will watch his entire world crash in front of him if he ever make her an object of ridicule and mockery.

"I offered her everything Uche. What am I supposed to do? I can't leave this opportunity to pass me by, at least I will join the big league and stop borrowing money from you"

Mark said to his friend.

"I am not complaining, please go and settle with Nkiru. its important."

advised Dr. Uche.

"Alright, I have heard you. But let us go and celebrate my latest appointment as the new general manager of Bestcop Hotel and towers. I am coming out soon in a grand style"

Mark said and dragged his friend to his car....
