Set me free - Episode 35

 

William:

"Hey mom." I greet as mom's face comes up on the laptop screen.

"Son! Thank God you called. I was beginning to get worried." Her face is etched with concern but it still soothes me to see her face.

"I'm fine mom. Have just been busy with work." I don't want to worry her with all that's going on right now, so I smile reassuringly.

"You look tired, boy . Are you eating right? Look at all those bags under your eyes!" I roll my eyes as mom zone on and on.

"Mom, I'm fine. The cold is just getting to me." mom frowns.

"You know you can always come back home right? No one would think you are a failure."

"I have to do this, mother. Now where's my baby girl?" I change the subject not so subtly. Mom's face fall a little and a dark feeling settle in the pit of my stomach.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Aurora is just not feeling too well."

"What!" I shoot out of the chair with the laptop in hand.

"Why didn't you call me?!"

"well I've been trying. Your phone is not even on." my mind remind me of how I lost the phone and I sigh.

. She needs her father. What was I thinking?!" I pull on my hair as I berate myself.

"Calm down. She just had difficulty breathing yesterday. She's sleeping. I'll keep an eye on her but I don't think it's anything serious." mom assures but I'm not convinced.

"Are you sure? I should be the one watching her. I mean it's supposed to be my duty." 

"You can't do more than I can for her. Or have you suddenly gotten a medical degree?"

"But--"

"just stay where you are. She'll be fine. Once she wakes up, I'll call you. You both can video chat then. To clear your mind."

"Thank you, mom." I relax a little and fall back on the chair.

"Just be careful out there, son."

"I will."

"Alright, I got to go." mom smiles weakly.

"Call me once my baby is up."

"ofcourse. Bye William."

"bye mom." The screen goes blank and I take in a breath of fresh air.

"She'll be fine William. Now, let's get back to this god awful job." I say to myself but I just want to lie down and sleep till I can sleep no more.

"I'll marry Rory." I mimic Michelle's voice from this morning and I scowl.

"She knew she was going to get married to that guy, yet she kept cuddling up to me last night!" I snap outloud.

 Why am I even angry? Last night was fun, yes but what was I expecting? I don't even like her that way! That wasn't what the butterflies in your stomach sang while you watched her sleep just hours ago. My mind tease me and my scowl deepens.

"I don't get butterflies in my stomach!" I snap outloud again.

"What butterflies are you babbling about?" The sudden interruption startle me as I jump back in my chair, nearly toppling it backwards.

"umm emm oh I--" I adjust in my chair as I straighten my imaginary tie. Michelle just stand in front of me with an expression that says I've lost it. Get it together, William! I push myself off the chair and stand up straight to tower above her. Just to get a little advantage after she caught me rambling like a mad man. 

"What are you doing in this part of the house?" I ask.

"wait, Are you making your voice sound deeper?" my mouth falls as she starts giggling.

"I'm not!" I snap. Her giggling stops and her usual scowl comes back.

"It's 9:21am." She says and I shrug.

"so?"

"I eat breakfast by 7:00am. Do I have to tell my father to fire you?" She states. My frown gets deeper.

"I'll fix you breakfast. You don't have to be a pompous ass." I say the last one under my breath.

"What did you just say?"

"Nothing." I grumble.

"It better be." she says. What's with the attitude? Oh now she's going to get married to Mr most eligible bachelor and she thinks she is high and mighty. What a spoilt princess!

"I'll call you down once I'm done with preparing it." I say through clenched teeth.

"Nah. Bring it to me upstairs. I don't want to eat with someone like you." she says snottily and I've had enough. She picked the wrong day to get on my nerves.

"Funny you seem like you were enjoying yourself last night." I grind out as I grab her wrist.

"What are you talking about? Let me go!" she tries to get free from me but I hold on tighter but not enough to hurt. She starts to walk back slowly. With every of her step backwards, I move forward.

"Stay back!" She yells as her hand comes up to my chest to hold me back. My second hand hold it there.

"You think I didn't see you blush when I held your hand to help you eat?" I say in her face, my grin crooked. I'm getting to her and it's giving me a big thrill. Being this close to her, I can see through a glasses a little. Her brown eyes are wide but unblinking. She turns her head away from me.

"Get away from me, William." She grits out. Her chest rising and falling with each breath she takes and releases. My eyes go down to watch her bosom before I catch myself. My leg is tingling from the contact with her thigh. Now, I'm also breathing heavy. What am I doing?! I pull away from her like she's scalding hot. Maybe she is.

"I'm sorry about--" Her flying fist brush my cheekbones as I move out of the way of her punch.

. Jeez!

"Bastard!" she yells as she throws her fist again. I catch her flying arm and pull her towards me. Her back to my front. Her arm pinned against her chest. My fingers tingle from brushing against it. Oops!

"Get away from me!" She starts to struggle within my grasp. She's surprising strong for her size. I turn her in my arms so her front in now against my front with both her hands pinned behind her.

"Calm, down." I say.

"I'm going to smash your teeth in." she spits at me and I can't help but chuckle. She's barely up to my shoulder and also blind but she's thinking of smashing my teeth in?

"Why, I'm going to wipe that silly grin off your face!" She starts shaking about, trying to get free of my hold but instead her glasses fall off. We both gasp at the same time as my eyes go down to the glasses hitting the floor. My eyes start to go up to her face when she suddenly grabs my head and pull me down to her lips! My world just got blown!
