Linda.

I have to keep reminding myself that it isn't a dream and that Maurice Lorde, yes, his surname is Lorde, hot right? Is interested in me.

Me! Linda.

"Is there a reason you are here?" He asks, leaning against Kane's Mercedes, looking hot AF.

"I wanted to get a good look at you before leaving for my meeting this morning" I say, tapping my pumps on the cobblestone.

He gives me a good look before smirking

"You are wearing my necklace?" He asks.

"What? It looked good so I took it"

"Is that the reason you wanted me to get a good look at you before your meeting and not the other way around?"

"I might be a little narcissistic" I say, biting my lip.

He laughs and I smile.

"You look good Linda" He says and it's my birthday gift, Christmas gift and my new year gift wrapped in one.

"Thank you" I say carefully.

"Keep the necklace, it looks better on you"

"It's manly but I'm going to keep it as my good luck charm" I say and he nods.

"You want me to drive you to your meeting?"

"Kane called you here for a reason,I'm sure he has something to tell you, you don't have to worry about me, I can drive myself to work or I can ask one of the other drivers" he nods at that. 

I keep looking at him and he slowly lifts a brow. 

"What?" 

"You know what" I say, taking a step forward. 

"Linda, step away from me, I'm not kissing you in front of the house where everyone can see" I pout. 

"How will I survive? Your kiss keeps me going" He smirks. 

I know I've got him when he bends his head, I meet him halfway. 

Maurice doesn't do anything half-assed, that's for sure. 

He kisses me thoroughly and anyone seeing this wouldn't have thought he held up a protest about kissing me a while ago. 

He lifts his head and my eyes slowly open. 

"Wow" I whisper. He smirks again and I wonder if I can drag him off somewhere. 

"What the fuck?" A very pissed off, very angry and very familiar voice asks. 

My eyes widen before turning to see Kane standing there, fully dressed in a charcoal suit. 

I take two steps back from Maurice who closes it with two steps of his own, as much as I'm glad he's protecting me from my brother's wrath I wish he wouldn't, Kane will be more pissed off. 

Did he see? Did he see? 

"Kane." I begin, carefully, like I'm talking to a feral animal. 

When Kane gets angry it's ugly. 

"What the f*ck Linda, why is your skirt so short?" He asks and I look down to my knee length skirt before looking back up. 

"What?" my voice breaks on the word 

"I can see everything from over here, you go back up those stairs and change" He says and my body almost sags in relief. 

I don't let it though, I power on. 

"Where are you going all dressed up? I thought you took a sabbatical from work?" 

"I'm going to buy a house for my baby, I have to do it by myself, it's going to be a surprise so don't open that mouth of yours yeah?" 

My brows rise. 

"Kane...

. The baby is just a month and a week old" I say. 

"I have to start for planning his future" He says and he looks like a depraved billionaire. 

A muffled laughs ensues from my side and it takes all my will not to join Maurice. 

"Maybe buying a house Is overkill....?" I say... Suggesting he goes back upstairs and continue watching over Anadia like a mother hen. 

"Nonsense, I had to stop myself from buying a little island" He says and I know he's completely serious. 

He's so excited for this baby I pray with all my might that nothing happens to it. 

"Maurice" Kane says. 

"Boss" 

"Stay away from my sister" He says and my body tenses. His eyes are on Maurice and they are cool, I know they can become hot in a second. 

"Boss?" 

"I would hate to have to fire a competent man like you" That's all the confirmation I need, he saw us, if not everything at least enough. 

"Yes.. Boss" Maurice says, hesitating, I throw him a look, now is not the time to hesitate, just say yes. 

"Good" Kane says before nodding at the car, Maurice opens it and before stepping in Kane turns back to me. 

"Go change that skirt Linda, I mean it" 

"Yes, Kane" I'm so not changing this skirt , he can shove his macho brother feelings up his ass. 

But he doesn't have to know that, he doesn't have to know a single thing. 

Maurice enters the car, driving off without a look at me. 

"Y'all at least try to be subtle, you will kill Kane with your sneaking around" Anadia's voice says from behind me. 

I turn 

"Are you supposed to be here? Kane will throw a fit if he sees you on your feet". 

"He can shove it where the sun doesn't shine" She says and I almost laugh at how similar out thoughts are. 

"But I'm serious Linda, it's hard not to notice that you and Maurice are dating, you held hands under the table at Aroos' engagement party four days ago" I blink. 

"Is it that obvious?" 

"Yes, you are glowing, it's that obvious" 

I sigh. 

"Will Kane really kill us if he finds out?" 

"Probably" 

"Shit" 

"Shit is correct" She says and I sigh.

"I guess I should really go change this skirt, try to stay on his good side if he's going to accept my relationship with Maurice" I say. 

"Kane has no choice but to accept, and also that skirt is bad ass, you should totally wear it" 

Well, who am I to dispute Anadia King?

The skirt will stay then, just as I hope my relationship with Maurice will stay too.
