Mirage - Episode 24

 

Victor:

I have never been more confused in my entire life. I already called an ambulance for Sylvia and they must have gotten to the hospital by now. I should have gone with her but I can't. Noah isn't picking up his calls and there's no reply from the Earpiece in my ears. I know something is awfully wrong. I can swear I heard a gunshot even with the loud chattering and shouting of the people on the port, I heard it.

I can't wait in here any more . I should Man up and find Noah. I take in a deep breathe then push the SUV door open. I see people gathering in groups. Some are pointing towards the sea. I see some people diving into the sea and i wonder what's going on. There's a odd silence and my throat close up in fear. I walk to a group and listen on their conversation.
"What is this world turning into. How he take fall commot the big boat?" one older woman with fish smelling wrapper is saying in vernacular.
"I heard a gunshot. I think he was shot. They were already off the shores so I couldn't see what was going on up there" a man answers.
"What's going on? A man fell into the sea?" I ask the Man and he nods solemnly.
"The coast guards and some police officers are searching for his body. He's already dead by now, if you ask me

. He was shot then he fell into the cold sea. He won't be able to swim right?" he asks the older woman who frown at him.
"You too like big big explaning. Come they go school. Lectures go don start" she reprimand the young man and both of them walk away bickering. Who fell? God let it not be Noah. I pray silently to the heavens.

  Some of the men diving into the sea swim up shore and every body crowd them. I squeeze through the crowd and gasp in horror as I see a blue torn material in one of the guard's hand. That's the shirt noah was wearing this morning. My God.

My phone starts ringing in my pocket and I pick it up quickly thinking its Noah.
"Hello"I say
"Yea, this is the ambulance attendant. You said I should call for updates. The doctor seems to know the patient and apparently she already made arrangements for her treatment abroad. It was supposed to be next week but she needs it now. They are transferring her to the airport to fly her abroad." He tells me but my attention is now fixed on the figure in front of me. Ivy.
"Ma'am. You are here?" I ask her
"Victor. Come quick, noah needs help and I can't do it alone. I saw him behind that boat. He's badly injured. We have to hurry" she looks frantic and I quickly go with her.
"What are you doing in this city?" I ask as we walk to the far end of the port. Its eerily quiet here. A good place to hide. I commend Noah in my mind. I knew he couldn't just die like that. He's the smartest guy I know.
We get to a small caravan and ivy stops suddenly and I have to halt quickly so I wouldn't run into her back.
"Why are you stopping?" I ask.
"I am sorry Victor" she says without looking at me and that's the same time I feel something heaven hit the back of my head. Blood pour down the side of my face into my eyes and it's like I am crying blood. I pull Ivy's shoulders to look into my bloody eyes as I fall to the ground.

Two months later.
Noah:
"Peanuts! Peanuts! Peanuts!" I scream then jolt out of the hard bed. My brain feels like someone is furiously pounding fufu inside it. I grab it and feel a thick bandage around my head. Where am I. I blink blury eyes open and see white. Everywhere. White sheets. White curtains. White tiles and the unmistakable pungent smell of antiseptic assault me. Damn I hate hospitals.
"He's awake. Mother! Doctor!" I hear a female voice and I turn to see a young teenage girl not more than sixteen with bright eyes looking at me.
"Where am I? who are you?"I ask and she smile.
"My mom found you in our fishing net two months ago. You were badly injured. The Doctor said the bullet barely missed your brain. Does it hurt?"she ask and I groan. Now, it does.
"Lie back son. You are so lucky. We were getting ready to shut down your treatment when you weren't responding to treatment. God must have saved you and given you a second chance for a reason." He says and my mind registers everything.
"Two months? What? No.I have to get out of here. "I start pulling off different hurtful needles from my body.
"Young man. That is not advisable" the doctor pleads
"Try to stop me then" I sneer at him and get up on my feet.

. I feel disoriented but I steady my self and pull some clothes I see by the bed on.

Ivy:

I sip my champagne slowly and stare into space. Two months and I haven't been able to sleep well. Noah's face When he saw me shoot him is just stuck In my mind. The news had carried the story of a respectable NDLEA agent dying by the hand of chief badmus. The man has been facing trial for months Now. A loud knock on my door startles me and I look at my wall clock to see its almost ten pm. Who could it be? I drop my champagne on the high table then pick my gun lying on the couch. I havent felt safe without it since the incidence. I feel like noah is going to be back for me. I walk casually to the door and pull it open only to come face to face with my nemesis. Noah!
"Noah!"I yell and the look on his face is just murderous.
"I can't believe_____" he doesn't finish his words before he collapse in my arms.
