The Queen

"You don't understand Rubik Cube, these kids are devil spawned" I say as I get ready for bed two days later

Although it burns my mouth to speak that way about beautiful children like the girls but they are.. They aren't giving me any breathing space at all.

I can't let my guard down, I will probably end up using shaving cream as my shampoo.

The only incident now is that they successfully poured dye in my shampoo and I have to walk around the house with wine coloured hair. 

I can't waif for my day off so I can finally wash this thing off. 

"They are children Luna, it'd be weird if they immediately accept you.. Wouldn't it?" 

I sigh, scrubbing my face extra hard with the face scrub. 

It's not as if their antics is bothering me that bad, it's just that I'm in a strange place and I keep having nightmares. . I'm exhausted and then I have to deal with them. 

" I guess "I say finally. 

" Well, since the coronation have been brought forward you might get a break soon "She says, her voice distracted.. 

" Well, I guess you are right, I might even decide not to continue working for them.. Who knows? "I say, crossing my leg and staring at the mirror..

Listening to her getting ready for bed too.. 

" Just give it a thought then another.

. "She replies.. 

I don't comment. 

" What are you doing? " I ask. 

" Getting ready for bed "

" Have you told Axel about the beby yet? "

" Nope.."

"Why?" 

"Uh... I just want to be sure" She says carefully. 

"Sure about what?" I ask before realizing what she means. 

"Don't be morbid Ruby, nothing's gonna happen to the baby" I say quietly. 

"The last one died" She replies just as quietly. 

"This time you have a man you love beside you.. You are safe" 

"But..." She begins then stops.. 

"What?" 

"I think Axel is done bathing.. Let's talk more tomorrow or on your day off...?" 

"Yeah..

. Say hi to axel for me" I say before ringing off. 

My eyes on my reflection slide away, looking to the bed. 

"I don't think I can sleep" I murmur to myself, it's never easy sleeping, not when dreams of my ex husband choking me fills my sleep. 

I can't even take sleeping drugs because I've sworn off them. 

Sigh. 

I stand, wrapping my nightgown close to myself, deciding a night of reading is what I'm in for. 

I pause when a growl splits the air... It sounded like something out of an horror movie. 

I look around, wondering where that came from. 

The children's room is down the hall from mine , and it didn't sound like It came from there, it sounds like it came from the hallway across my room.. 

I step out of my room, wondering if I won't regret investigating unknown sounds.. But how much worse can it get? 

I'm sure it's probably someone watching an horror movie on a very very loud speaker.. 

Another growl comes but this time quieter, almost as if its calling someone. 

I gulp, knowing I should turn around and go to my room but  my sense of self preservation has fled and all that's left is curiosity. 

How worse can it get? I think again.. What? Am I going to find a beast? A hulk? I scoff, standing on the threshold between my hallway and the stairs to the other one. 

I bite my lip, lifting my feet to place on the stairs. 

"What are you doing?" a voice asks and I turn, My heart in my mouth, a silent scream pouring out of my open lips. 

"Oh my God, you startled me" I say to the man standing in front of me. 

"I'm sorry about that, but what were you doing?" 

I glance at the stairs behind me before scratching my cheek and turning to him. 

"Well, I heard sounds and I was going to..." 

"Didn't Gabriel tell you that these halls are prohibited from entry?" He asks and I shake my head.. 

"Well, I'm new here and I..." I begin. 

"It's probably my brother watching movies on a high volume, I'm sorry if it disturbed you" He says... I don't even know who he is. 

"Your brother?" I ask. 

"Nikolai" He says and realization slams me,this must be the Duke, Harry. 

"Oh.. I.." what am I supposed to do? Curtsey? 

"Your highness" I say, settling on bowing my head. 

"Please call me Harry" He says and I nod, suddenly realizing my state of undress, the night gown I'm wearing leaves nothing to the imagination, Arthur used to hate nightgowns like this so when I saw it at the shop I just had to get it. 

But right now, standing in front of a young man whom I'm sure does not see me in that way... Sigh.. but still he's a young man. 

I pull the nightie around me. 

"I'm sorry for snooping around, I wasn't aware I was staying this close to the King" I say, biting my lip. 

"It's fine, Please avoid doing so and take care of the girls" He says, he might as well have told me to stop being a busybody and just do my work. 

"No problem.." I say, stepping out of his way.. ".. Well, Goodnight" I say. 

You could say I fled to my room. 

I slam the door shut, not knowing how that conversation made me feel. 

I listen closely and I hear a door shut somewhere in the house. 

Another faint growl comes this time, I listen closely and after a pause a whine follows, almost as if the beast is having a conversation.. 

I rub my neck.. I guess the king has time to see movies too, he's human after all.
