Love Eternal - Episode 5

 

You are praying for the princesses aren't you?" Ruby asks and my eyes which I didn't realise closed fall open. 

"Yes" I whisper and she nods. 

After taking another sip of my coffee I ask. 

"Why are you here?" 

"Geez, tell me to get out why don't you" 

"You know that's not what I meant" 

"I don't" 

"Just shush up and tell me." 

"Well.. I don't know how to say this but I think I might be pregnant" She blurts and Jeff spews coffee from his mouth on me and my dining table, there goes my white shirt.. 

"What?" He screams. 

"Calm down, it's just a speculation I don't know yet, I haven't taken any test."

He nods, grabbing a paper towel to mop up his mess after sending me an apologetic look. 

"But. . Aren't you like a hundred years old should your eggs still be working?" 

We slowly and eerily turn to him and he springs up from his seat, knowing when danger is imminent. 

"Did you just call me a hundred years old?" 

"No.. Did I?" he says nervously. 

"Good and i will have you know that I am 35 years old not a hundred, only Luna is a hundred years old" 

"I'm not!"

"Uh?" 

"I'm just 37 you motherfuckers" I scream and they laugh. 

"You look kinda hot for a 37 year old biddy" Ruby says and I bat my lashes as a warm blush of pleasure suffuses my cheeks. 

"I've been working out" I say

"Oh?" Jeff replies sarcastically, knowing fully well the hours I spend working out, more than once he has had to come drag me away from the gym down the street.

I've lost the extra pounds and if I am to say I look passably 30.

"You look 25 Luna" Jeff says, settling back on his seat, I blink realising I said that out"I would ask you out if I know you will agree" He says and I know he's exaggerating. 

"And before you say I'm exaggerating you can ask anyone.

. Don't you look in the mirror, can't you see how good you look?" He asks and I roll my eyes... This is his normal spiel. 

"Helloooo, can we go back to my situation? Everyone knows Luna looks 25"

"Ohhh, is that jealousy I hear?" Jeff asks and Ruby growls.

"Repeat that and watch me rip out your balls and shove it down your throat" Ruby says and Jeff sneers, poking his tongue at her. 

"Both of you stop, I'm not a fan of cleaning blood out of my carpet" I say taking another sip of my coffee. 

"First, we have to get you tested, we can't be sure until it's positive, after that we move from there" I say, my hand coming to rest atop hers. 

"We need an home test Jeff, we need..." 

"I've already asked the super store deliverers to get one here" He says, work mode activated. 

This is the reason I had Jeff added to my team, he's efficient and sassy, just the way I like it. 

He was originally with the first company before it went under, I had him stay when I saw his performance record, I've not regretted it once. 

He stands up, probably to go wait outside for the delivery man while at the same time giving I and Ruby some privacy. 

When he clears the doorway I immediately turn to my friend. 

"What changed?" I whisper and she blinks, shaking her head. 

"What?" I ask again. 

"Axel.. He wants a baby" She whispers back. 

"What about you.. Don't you?" she shakes her head. 

"I Don't know If I Do... I'm Thirty five Lulu, I've stirred clear of pregnancy all my life why now?" 

"You must like Axel a lot then?" I say, knowing the answer to that. 

Ruby has never dated, not after running from an abusive father who beat her baby out of her when she was only Seventeen, she stopped believing in men when the father of her child neglected her at the time, I used to be scared that my friend will end up alone after Arthur succeeds in killing me but I was glad when Axel moved to town and managed to get Ruby to go on a date, apparently he had always been in love with her when we were all in high school, and nows he's back for her, they are in a relationship with no label, living together for three years now, not giving their selves a name but coexisting and being in love. 

"I love Axel Luna, a lot, I think I go pregnant because of the way he always talked about wanting a baby some day". 

"And you wanted to be the one to do that?" 

"I guess I didn't want to loose him to someone else, I'm thirty five, it's time to stop letting my fears take the lead." she says with a phony smile. 

"You don't have to act strong with me Rubik Cube" I say and she muffles a nervous chuckle. 

The kitchen door opens and Jeff pokes in his head. 

"Test is here.. All we need is Ruby to pee on it" he says placing the little box on the table 

"Jeff..." Ruby says menacingly, I roll my eyes. 

"What?" He asks innocently. 

"Just give me the test and scram.." 

"But I wanna see.." He pouts. 

"See what exactly?" We both ask at the same time and he grimaces as he clears the door. 

I shake my head, how a thirty year old man can be so much of a baby is beyond me. 

"So.." I say looking at the box. 

"Let's get this over with" He says and I nod.
