Love Eternal - Episode 4

 

A Year Later

I stand on the porch, watching the limo with my kids in it pull away, keeping a smile on my face even though my heart is breaking.

They hate me, even though its been a year since this joint custody thing started, they still don't like me, all because Arthur keeps filling their head with lies about me.

I and my kids were never close , I had to send them away when they were six and four to a boarding school after realising that Arthur was never gonna stop abusing me.

The situation in my home at the time wasn't a place to raise a kid not to talk of two impressionable kids.

I got them out of boarding ten years later  when I realised the loneliness was too much to bear but at that time the harm was already done, my kids were not close to me and we were always uncomfortable with each other.

It was up to me to mend the shaky bridge between us but at that time I got into an accident and was lying in a coma for a year.

After waking up Arthur had succeeded in turning them against me.

They hate my guts and everything I stand for.

But what I won't stand for is Arthur actually lying to them about me, what are the things he's filled thier head with this time?

If it were up to me I would never ever contact the man whose sp*rm aided in making my kids but it is what it is.

I make a note to call him when I'm with Ruby, I hate to admit it but I stil get scared when I call him.

I have to get ready to go to my office, if there is one good thing I got from the messy ordeal that was my past marriage it wil be the alimony.

After the near suicide I decided to get my head on straight, dying won't solve a thing and it will mean my kids living with a monster as their only guide in this life for the rest of their life.

I checked for job listings before finally deciding to buy a company, my own cleaning agency, it was the best decision I had ever made.

I have 107 people currently working for me and two branches in two states, things are going well considering the amount of time.

Where we have a premium plan for the Uber rich, we also have for the average person.

Cleaning was the best way to get my mind off the nightmare that is my life.

I shake dark thought from my head as I decide what to wear today, finally settling on a slack and dress shirt with high heeled pumps.

I blow dry my wet hair as I look in the mirror, taking joy in seeing the long strands remembering how much Arthur detasted long hair, he had me cut it short, I used to love my hair, it's length and weight but I was glad to cut it then seeing as Arthur didn't have anything to hold on to while beating me.

But now, I love how long it is, as a silent sign of rebellion I refuse to cut it, preferring to style it, it's length is almost to my waist now, growing fast and healthily.

I finish dressing, knowing my P. A will be downstairs with my itinerary for the week and it is as I thought because I see his dark head bent over a cellphone with Ruby.

"Rubik cube, You are here?" I ask, wondering what's up.

"Yes, yes" She replys distractedly.

"Good morning Luna" Jeffrey my P

. A says as he slides coffee towards me.

I smile at him, before taking a sip.

They look distracted and I wonder what's up.

"What's up?" I decide to ask.

"The Royal Family" Ruby replies, stopping there.

Our country has a royal family, while it also has a democratic system the royal family handles some of its affair.

Last time I heard King Damien and Queen Sophia were holding their 17th wedding anniversary, that was three years ago, I don't usually follow royal news or any other news for that matter.

"What's up with the royal family then?" I ask, taking another sip of coffee and they slowly lift their head.

"What?" I question.

"Have you been living under a rock?" Jeff asks and I give him the middle finger.

"Wil you just tell me?" I Say, rolling my eyes.

"Prince Nikolai is set to inherit the throne" Ruby replies and my brows lift.

"What? Why?"

Ruby sends a disbelieving look to Jeff who shake his head

"King Damien and Queen Sophia passed away in a fire at their summer cabin three months ago, God bless their souls" Ruby says, making the sign of the cross.

Shock runs through me and my mouth falls open.

"What?!"

"Maybe you would know if you at least get a television or a radio or maybe read some news on your bloody phone" Ruby says and I blink, needing to set my behind on a chair.

"They died?"

"It was tragic" Jeff commented and we stay silent for a while, respect to those departed.

"So.. What's gonna happen to the Mornachy?" King Damien had three daughters and no son, the throne only passes to the eldest male son.

"Prince Niko is having his coronation in three weeks time" Jeff replies.

"Prince Niko? The ghost prince?" I ask, knowing just as everyone else that Damien had two younger brothers, Niko and Duke, Duke being the youngest sometimes appears in news, Niko never makes an appearance and some say it's because he's cursed.

"Isn't it true that he's cursed?" I blurt.

"That's just a myth Luna, you know that" she says and I blink, knowing how stupid that must have sounded . 

I suddenly feel sympathy course through me at how the little princesses must feel right about now, loosing a parent is always hard, mine died 17 years ago and I still miss them. 

I sigh giving in to the sad thoughts for a while before sending a silent prayer to the one above, asking him to help the little princesses.
