Dorcas

Dorcas was having a rough time. Her only child was in Juvy. Her marriage had hit a major rock and was slowly sinking in the abyss of despair and colossal rejection. Every morning since Tony died she woke up to the reality that things had to change. She was in a sink hole.

 Her husband had not attended the hearing. He had not bothered to ask anything concerning Becka . It was like Becka had stopped to exist in his life. He went on with his work like nothing had happened. Ignorant fool! He had wanted a male child as a first born. Sadly Dorcas bore a girl the first time and the second time she conceived a miscarriage followed. What followed was her marriage falling apart. She felt like a bee trapped in a bottle

The house felt empty and big. She was all alone. She had dismissed the help. Yesterday Chris had come home drank as always. A habit she had grown weary of. Between the alcohol and the women it was difficult to choose which habit was the most irritant.

Tomorrow she would be going to visit Becka.  Poor thing, she could not believe it. Becka had been the perfect child everyone wanted. Even between their domestic wrangles which she had tried so hard to hide from her, she had flourished. Watching her grow was like taking a satisfactory pause while looking at a well-tended garden.

Dorcas had everything she wanted except for the one she wanted the most

. Love from her husband Chris. 

“Love is an infatuation created by fools who cannot grow up and face reality.” Her best friend Maggie always said.

Maybe she was right. From the way Chris treated her, she was slowly but surely losing all hope on love. Most of the time when Chris failed to come back home, she would close her door and cry herself to sleep. It was during one of those nights that Becka shared something with her, a thing that made the bond they had even more special. She had been crying for almost an hour amidst her tears when she heard Becka knocking the door.
“Mum are you okay?” Becka asked without stepping into the room. 

There she was, Dorcas, sitting at the corner of her bedroom floor crying.

. She had never wanted Becka to see her like that. That was the reason why her crying routine had been strictly after Becka had presumably gone to bed.

“Mum you are crying again.” Dorcas was shocked.

“Is it about dad?”

Becka silently walked back to her room without adding anything. She knew Becka was a bit disappointed because she was holding on to a marriage that had already fallen apart.  If only she knew that it was all for her. She decided to stop crying and go back to sleep. The door opened again and Becka walked in this time.

“Mum, I have something for you. Just get into your bed, close your eyes and listen.”

“Okay.”

She read out to her

It is said falling in love is the most beautiful thing that can happen to a person,
Also can be the worst thing that happens to you,
I absolutely agree,
I say falling in love can be a great lesson,
Because love, love is a very great, mutual,
Very deep, sincere feeling that generates from ones heart.

It teaches a great deal of things,
It does not discriminate, it can be between any races,
Any social class, any religion
Sometimes we fall for the wrong persons,
Fall for the wrong reasons
We expect too much from people who have less to offer

Love has been so much distorted,
People are in for the moment kind of feeling,
But isn’t love supposed to be more than that?
Understand not everyone is a keeper of the faith.

For the few who believe,
Keep the faith you never know
Let love be pure and untainted’
Let it shine pure and clear
Because love transcends our human form,
Love was created by God Himself,
For He is love.

That is why He created man and woman,
The sole reason He sent His son,
Because love is the beginning of everything,
Love is kind, pure, humble, patient, sincere, and faithful
Love does not cheat or boast.
Love can never be a monster like dad

Becka then folded the paper and gave it to her mum.

“Mum I love you with the core of my being. You may love dad but he probably doesn’t care. You cannot cry yourself to bed every night yet he is outside here enjoying with other women. This is no life mum.”

Dorcas unable to utter a word hugged her daughter and wept bitterly. They had fallen asleep on her bed. 

She was still in the string of memories when her phone rang.

“Hello,”
“What happened?”
“Oh my God!”
