He had underestimated how dangerous Maribel was. Maribel had cover up the accidental murder of Kirui and was using it to make Cassie help her in the kidnap of Kim. It was a twisted partnership where Maribel was the dominator while Cassie was the submissive one. Under a right circumstance Cassie was capable of unspeakable crimes but she could not act alone. Though now they had a confirmation that it was indeed Cindy who had kidnapped Kim, they still did not know where she was.

Time was running fast and he did not have a clue where to start . Kim, Lucy and Stacy were up and about trying to search for any clue on Maribel whereabouts. He had already drove her daughter Angel and Giovanni to Dorcas’ place, Becka was there too. He had already linked up with the Juvy and told them the police had dropped all charges against Becka. His partner was processing Cassie for official lock up, a distraught Nick had already left for home but had asked the detective to just call if his assistance was needed. Poor guy.

 He was now standing at the place where Maribel had left Cassie. He had tried driving in circles looking for something, anything. Nothing penned out. Frustrated he leaned against his car trying to relax and think of anything that could help. His phone vibrated in his pocket and he placed his hand inside to remove it.

“Hello detective.” The domineering voice reverberated at the end of the earpiece.
“Hello Cindy or should I say Maribel.”

“Whatever is light on your lips detective, after all we are going to be partners moving forward.” Maribel spoke in such an enticing tone but evil nonetheless.

“I would hardly call you my partner seeing you are the criminal am supposed to catch.”

“I wish you luck on that Partner.” Maribel said laughing lightly at the other end.

“Where is Kim, Maribel? Is he okay? I want proof of life.” The detective spewed out quickly.

A minute of silence followed then

A shaky voice spoke on the other end.

“Kim are you okay? Has she hurt you in any way?” Paul asked.

“No, am fine … I just want to go home.” Kim said.

“Don’t worry I will find…” 

Maribel took back the receiver.

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves detective. Come on, you can’t even trace where I am, you have been circling around River side for hours. How about we do this on my terms for a change.” Maribel said.

Paul stayed silent.

“Detective did I cut your tongue?” Maribel asked.

“No, I am just wondering what makes you so confident that you believe in a run between good and evil, evil triumphs.”

“You want to know what I think detective?”

“What Maribel?”

“You are too naïve.”

“We will see about that.”

“So I am curious to know detective Paul, the knight of shining armor who is going to save the day why are you doing this? Am sure Dorcas will be so much thrilled, she wouldn’t even think twice when you finally ask her to marry you. Your daughters are already getting along quit well. Detective Paul looked at the other phone. His partner back at the station had been unsuccessful in tracing the phone call though he was still trying. 

“Detective Paul, don’t worry your intelligent head too much, trust me to make sure the call cannot be traced back to me. A boy will be approaching you now with a new phone.

True to her words a small street boy approached a stunned detective. They had really underestimated her. The boy handed the phone and told him.

“Soo yangu.” Meaning. “My hundred-Shilling.”

Without a word the detective took a hundred-shilling note from his pocket and handed over to the boy before receiving the phone which was already ringing.

“Where were we detective?” Oh I remember, the part where you tell me why you are closely investigating this case.

“I love Dorcas with everything and am willing to do anything within my power to bring Kim back to my step daughter for them and also because it is my job to protect this city from people like you.”

“Well detective am sure you are good at what you do, maybe one of the good ones this city has. But today don’t play hero. These are my terms proceeding forth...”

Maribel paused for a while.

“What are the terms Maribel?”

“I know Mr. Karugu will be in the city within the next thirty minutes. You are going to meet me at stone park in the next hour. Nick, Cassie, Becka, Ian, Stacy, Lucy, Mr. Karugu, Little Giovanni, Dorcas find my father if you can.”

“Will you bring Kim with you?”

“I will bring even more. And detective…”

“Yes Maribel.”

“Don’t get any ideas.”

With that she hung up the phone.
