Ultimate Sacrifice - Episode 40

 

Twenty minutes later the crew arrived at the hospital. Detective Paul flashed his badge and he was let in. His little squad scampered into the hospital, Ian holding tightly onto Giovanni’s hand while Nick holding onto Cassie’s hand. Deep in her heart Cassie knew she was out of moves, but what was the harm in stalling? She could be lucky to get a better deal. 

Ian was the first into the room. Becka who was now awake after hearing the commotion sat on her bed alert.

“Becka are you okay?” Ian asked touching her face

“Yes, I am . What’s going on? Its late, is everything okay? Is my mum okay?”

“Your mum is fine, she slept at the Pastor’s house in Church.”

“Then what’s going on?”

“Kim’s missing.” Ian told her after a pause.

“Kim’s missing, what do you mean Kim is missing?”

“Someone took him.”

“What?” Becka asked disbelief written all over her face.

Ian reached out for her hand. 

“Am sorry Becka, Kim is missing and we think that Tony’s killer took her.”

Becka looked away from Ian. Not surprised but truly terrified.

“Wait…you don’t look surprised, why aren’t you surprised?” Ian asked.

“Because she already knows the killer and what she is capable of.” Detective Paul said stepping closer to Becka’s bed.

“It really is the help.” Lucy said again touching her forehead while taking cautious step before sliding against the wall and sitting on the concrete floor.
“But how comes I did not recognize her as Maribel, I have known her long enough.” Nick said.

“Maribel, that her real name?”

Nick nodded his head.

“You didn’t recognize her?” Lucy continued

“No, sorry.” Nick said apologetically.

“Am sorry, what was she to you ……

“We should focus more on getting Kim back.”

“How? I mean we really don’t even know how she looks.” 

“I know how she looks like.” Giovanni said.

Everyone turned their gaze to the youngest of them all.

“What do you mean?”

“I know how she looks. How she really looks like.” 

“How does she really look?”

Giovanni raised his hand and pointed at Becka.

“That’s impossible. The Cindy I know looks nothing like Becka.” Ian said.

“But the one I know looks exactly like her, it’s almost weird looking at her right now.” Nick said pointing at Becka.

Everyone looked back at Giovanni, though he was young their eyes peered down at him. Answers they needed and answers they were willing to get no matter the source.

“Cindy had been away for a few days and we were only with Kim in the house. We were playing hide and seek with my brother and I hid in Cindy’s room forgetting that was the day she was supposed to return. I went into her room and hid in the cupboard. My brother who was supposed to be looking for me took a while and before I knew it, I heard Kim’s and Cindy voices on the hallway. I heard him calling me to say hello to Cindy and that I should come out of my hideout. I did not because I was not supposed to be in Cindy’s room in the first place.”

Giovanni stopped.

. Ian who was now kneeling in front of him urged him to go on.

“What happened Gio?”

“Cindy entered the room and I heard my brother telling her she would see me tomorrow since it was already late and she also needed some rest after such a long journey. I stayed silent in my hiding place and saw her bolting the door. She then proceeded to her dressing table and I saw her removing her eye contacts. She then proceeded to remove some sort of glue-tape like that turned her face from being more oval to less oval. Just like Becka’s face. She proceeded to the wash her face and she looked so different.”

Everyone was super quite still shocked at this young boy’s revelation.

“Did you get a chance to escape without her seeing you?”
Giovanni shook his head.

“So how did you get out of there?”

“After some time, I shifted and unfortunately made some noise. She heard me and fished me out of the closet.”

“Did she hurt you?”

“No, she told me that sometimes women would go to extreme measures to look beautiful and be accepted in the society. I told her I thought she was beautiful the way she was but she said I wouldn’t understand until I had become of age. She let me go after I promised I would not tell her secret.”

Giovanni looked down at his shoes.

“Am sorry I let you all down, it is my fault Kim is missing.”

Ian was quick place his hand at the boy’s cheeks.

“No, no, it’s not your fault, nothing happening is anybody’s fault, hear me?”

Giovanni nodded while Ian proceeded to pull him into a hug.

“What do we do now?” Lucy asked.

“We have to go find her.” Paul said with finality.

“Where do we even look?” Kim asked releasing the boy from a hug.

“I know where, she is going to tell us.”  Nick said pointing at his fiancé who he had secured in a firm grip.

“Is she ready to talk?” Lucy asked throwing daggers towards Cassie direction.

“She better be, because she is now an accomplice to murder and kidnapping, she is facing time and how much years she will get will depend on how fast she will start talking.”

Cassie involuntarily rolled her eyes.

“Lady I don’t know who you think you are but if you roll your eye one more time my face is the last one you will see.” Ian said taking steps toward Cassie.

“We have to get back to the station.” The detective moved towards Cassie and fished out his cuff.

“Cassie, you are under arrest for suspected involvement in kidnap of Mr. Karugu Kim and the murder of Miss. Antonina.”

The detective left the room first then everyone else followed including Becka.
