Ian, Stacy and Lucy walked in to a rather chilled environment at the police station. The summation of everyone who had been in the hospital when Becka woke up except for the mother was here. That meant the killer was within the police station. Cassie knew her, Maribel was her and the detective was having his suspicions. He only had many options but them yielding results was just a matter of trial error . He could call her daughter and ask her what she meant when she said that Becka’s sister was not happy. Or he could drill Cassie and know what she was hiding. 

 

He looked at Nick who was still holding the door.

 

Stacy, Ian and Lucy came rushing in.

 

“Detective are you going to find him?” Ian asked worry written all over his voice.

 

“Well, Mr. Muga at the moment we do not have any idea where he is but am doing everything within my power to ensure he is found.”

 

“How could this happen though? Some few hours ago we were with him at the hospital.” Lucy who was the least talkative one shouted.

“You two need to calm down.” Stacy said to her friends.

 

“Calm down? Are kidding me? I have been calm for the past months. First it was Antonina’s death, then Becka’s arrest and now Kim has been kidnapped?”

 

“Becka’s arrest was tied to Tony’s death, but Kim missing maybe not related to this.”

 

“Call me skeptical but I don’t believe in coincidences, Kim was kidnapped by the person or people who killed Tony.”

 

“Don’t be so certain Luc.”

 

“Why are you so defensive Stacy? Is it so hard to theorize that Tony’s killer is till loose and he or she is just trying to tie loose ends maybe?” Lucy suggested

 

“How could Kim be a loose end?”

 

“I don’t know, just that…

“So you basically saying that it could be a crime of passion?”

 

“Only if the killer was interested in Kim, which would make the killer a woman.” Lucy said almost impressed of the theory she was coming up with.

 

“Supposing your theory is true definitely Ian and I are out of the equation.” Stacy said

 

“How so?” Luc asked

 

“For starters he is my long time crush.” Stacy said smiling at Ian.

 

“Oh okay, fair enough. I can say I have never been interested in Kim and you will have to take my word on that.” Lucy said smiling painfully.

 

“Let’s widen our search nets.” Ian who had been silent all this while watching his crazy friends finally contributed. Detective Paul just sat watching the three develop a story that was almost complete.

 

“Let’s say, she was some kind of a stalker.” Lucy said

 

“It has to be someone who knows him, someone at school maybe someone who he interacts with on daily basis.”

 

“Or more frequently if it’s not daily.” Paul said deciding to help.

 

“I don’t think it could be someone from school though.” Lucy said.

 

“Why is that?” they all asked eagerly waiting for her to answer.

 

“Mainly because school is far away, and it would take a lot of digging and stalking to discover the lover’s triangle.”

 

“You right, it has to be someone much closer.” Stacy highlighted what they all agree with.

 

“Well it’s not me, or him or her, who could be much closer than us his friends?” Luc asked in a much frustrating manner.

 

“Well the lady on the opposite room knows who it is, and we going to find out.” Paul said rising up from his seat.

 

He stormed out only to find Cindy seated alone in the reception.

 

“Where are they?” He asked looking at the main door of the police station.

 

“In the ladies.” Cindy said smiling politely.

 

Paul rushed towards the toilet and he let a huge sigh of relief when he saw they were actually there. For a moment he imagined they could have try to escape.

 

“Nick, I need to talk to her.” Paul said while standing far giving them privacy.

 

“Give us five.”

 

“Alright. Five minutes.”

 

“Thank you detective.” 

 

As he walked back to the reception area, he noticed how Cindy was bent over with worry.

 

“Hey, we will find him.” He said when he reached her, placing his hand lightly on her shoulders.

 

“Detective don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

 

Paul smiled weakly.

 

“He is alive somewhere and am going to do everything within my power to get him.”

 

“This is such a nightmare.” Cindy said before breaking into soft sobs.

 

“Hey, hey, don’t cry, beautiful people don’t cry.” He sat next to her holding her tiny fragile hands out of empathy.

 

“What am I going to tell Mr. Karugu? Am supposed to take care of him, it’s what am paid to do.”

 

“This is not your fault Cindy, Kim is a big boy, he should be in a position to take care of himself. You are not to paid for that.” With that the detective rose and went into his office.

. He found Ian, Lucy and Stacy still going back and forth on the theory.

 

Ian who had been standing decided to adjust Giovani who had was sleeping soundly on the couch so as to create room to sit. When he tried to move him a small punch landed flat on his face.

 

“Help!” Giovanni screamed 

 

“Hey buddy come down, It’s me Ian your all time friend.” Ian said jokingly to the already calm boy.

 

“Oh! Sorry, I don’t take kindly to people interrupting my sleep.”

 

“I got the point clearly.” Ian said tapping where Giovanni had punched.

 

“By the way you scream like a girl.” Ian started teasing him.

 

“No, I don’t.” 

 

“Yes you do…help! . help!” Ian mimicked

 

Everyone laughed except for Lucy who stayed silent like someone in a trance.

 

“Everything okay Luc?”  Stacy asked.

 

Lucy did not respond but rushed out of the office. The rest of the troupe followed.

 

They came to a halt at the main door where Lucy was wildly screaming while Ian’s car was nowhere to be seen.

 

“She is gone!”

 

“Who Lucy?” They asked in a chorus.

 

“The killer, she is gone.”

 

“The killer was here?” Paul asked.

 

“Yeah, she was right here all the time just injecting herself in the middle of everything.” Lucy continued ranting.

 

“Who! Lucy .. the only person who was here was Cindy., the house.”

 

The detective paused in shock.

 

“You guys are killing us with the suspense.” Stacy said.

 

“Cindy. The house help.”

 

Paul closed his eyes. Could Cindy really be her? He remembered their conversation earlier. He had started working at the Karugu’s mansion two years ago the same amount of time Nick had not seen her. He remembered how she had personalized the relationship between her and Kim while they were in the car conversing, driving to the police station.

 

“The way you said my Kim, like he belonged to me.”

 

“When Ian kept repeating the word help, Cindy was all I could think of. It has to be her.” Lucy started explaining.

 

“She knows us in and out, if not for her young age you would say she is like Kim’s guardian. We even told her some of our secrets.” Lucy shouted in more frustration.

 

Nick and Cassie had now joined everyone in the reception.

 

“Does any one have a photo of Rebecca?”

 

“I do?” Ian said fishing out his phone from the pockets.

 

“Guys we should go check on Becka, for all we know Cindy – the killer might be headed there.” Ian said. 

 

“She is right.”

 

“We all get in my car.”  Paul commanded.

 

“Where are we going?” Gio asked.

 

“To the hospital.”

 

They all had to squeeze in with Giovanni settling on Ian’s lap and the van sped off to the hospital Becka was in.
