Kim

Kim stirred from his deep uncomfortable sleep. His body felt the cold floor. His head throbbed insanely. He recalled what had happened. Some stranger had used a gun to take him out of the house then another person he knew nothing of had taken him out with one single blow at the back of his head. It had the potential of killing him . He sat up though it felt uncomfortable with his head aching like that.
He stretched his hands and felt the wall. Using the wall, he stood up and felt his way around the room. There was a window. It was grilled with metal and glass on the outer sided. He tried holding the metal and yanking it off as he had seen in some of the movies he watched. It only made his headache worse.  He continued feeling his way around and soon enough he was at the door. It was a heavy wooden door. From feeling it he knew it was made from quality wood and breaking it wouldn’t be such a successful act of escape.

He kicked the door in frustration yelling some incomprehensible words. He then moved from the door and sat leaning his back against the wall at one corner.

He needed to get out of this hell hole. He needed to get out quick.

Prisoner x

She woke up with a start. She must have heard something a sound which was very unusual

. She wasn’t expecting her captor to be in the house at this hour. She had kept her here for over two years now. She heard the sounds again, followed by a scream of frustration which she knew too well. She had done the exact thing when she was brought here for the first time. It never worked.

“It never works.” She said with much force but it came out as a whisper. She laughed at herself.

“It never works.” She repeated.

Insane was how she felt. Crazy was what she had to became because she was locked in there like a rabid dog. She was allowed to bath once a week. Her meals were regular. She had learned to follow orders as instructed after a near death experience while trying to escape. She had slipped through the door when MaryAnn had come to give her food. All the doors were open and soon she was out in the woods.

That’s where the problem started.

She could not tell left from right, all the paths looked the same and they all seemed to lead to one point. Within no time a bullet had grizzled past her ear to a tree on her back. She looked up to see her captor walking towards her with a gun in her hands. She had a direct shot at her. The thought of dying in the woods all alone made her blood run cold. She had surrendered and decided to cooperate till that day rescue would come.

Over two years had passed. No rescue had come. The only human contact she had was MaryAnn and now the voice of a stranger in the next room.

*********

Detective Paul

“Is it okay if I call his friends? I just want them to know what’s happening, maybe they could help.” Cindy asked the detective after completing the statement.

“Sure, let Giovanni rest here while you do that. It’s not safe for you to go back home. We have other comfortable seats you can rest your head on.”

“Okay detective.” Cindy responded while leaving the house. Paul followed her outside and saw her sitting on one of the chairs while trying to make a phone call. He signaled Nick and Cassie to enter his office.

They settled in chairs that were facing each other. He applauded Nick for being very calm during such circumstance. It was hard to find a man with such temperance.

“So Cassie I need to right your statement down.” Paul said in a no nonsense voice.

“Tell him what you told me so that we can get help.” Nick encouraged her. She nodded.

“Tell him what happened.”

“I was on my way to Christie’s place when I saw this small kid standing by the road. I figured I could talk to her, maybe she needed my help.”

“Her? I thought you said it was a small boy?” Nick asked trying not to show his irritation.

“Maybe it was a girl or a boy, it was dark I couldn’t see well.”

“The road to Christie’s place has streetlights everywhere, so.” Nick threw another soft punch.

“Let her finish.” Detective Paul told Nick.

“This boy or girl kid, continue what happened?”

“As soon as I made to approach the kid three muscular men emerged one holding a gun. They forced me to drive them to Riverside estate then knocked me out and left me there. They did not take my phone and that’s what I used to call my boyfriend.”
Detective Paul nodded. He noticed how Cassie quickly relaxed after answering a question only to tense up immediately another one was asked. He closed his note pad and directly looked at Cassie.

“I have successfully recorded your cover up story, now I want you to tell me, what you were doing with Maribel today when you left Nick’s place.”

“Yeah, how about some truth for a change.” Nick said not hiding the irritation in her voice.

“Babe, Officer i ..what do you mean cover up story? Nick am telling you the truth, and who the hell is Maribel?” Cindy asked feigning ignorance.

“You see that girl that just walked out and this kid sleeping on my sofa?”

“What has that got to do with anything?” Maribel asked again still feigning innocence.

“Kim, his brother just got kidnapped and I think you know where he is, more specific you know where Maribel took him.”

Cassie drew out a sigh and leaned back on her chair.

“Officer I know nothing of what you are talking about, I swear.”

“That’s bullshit.” Nick said banging the table startling the Paul too.

“I don’t know.” Cassie insisted.

“Well Cassie, I don’t believe you.”

Silence fell and Paul took the time to study Cassie. In moments like this he wished he could have telepathic ability and read what was on this girl’s mind or in a more practical scope slice her mind open and read off it like a book.

“You know it’s funny you got robbed and you cannot remember if it was a boy or a girl you saw.

Read " So We Got Married " by the same author ( DORSILA ANYANGO )

. It is also quite strange how you mix the word kidnapped with carjacked earlier while talking to Cindy. If I did not know better, I would think they were somehow related.”

Still Cassie maintained her silence. Paul leaned closer.

“It’s better if you talk to me now. I could help you. I don’t want you to land in any hole that Maribel dug.”

He looked deeply into her eyes. They were a bit teary. She wanted to talk but she was afraid. Afraid of Maribel.

Paul sighed.

“Nick, can I talk to you outside?”

“Sure detective.”

Nick closed Paul’s office door. Paul wiped his chin and sighed again.

“Your girl-friend needs to talk to me, the first hours of a kidnap case are very vital. Can you maybe try reaching out to her?”

“Yea, sure let me try talking to her.”

Nick left the detective standing outside and went inside the office. Quietly he settled beside Cassie who had a far-away gaze in her eyes.

“Babe.” Nick called.

“Yea.”

“You need to talk to the cop, else you are going to be here for a while and if he gets the connection between you and Maribel, you will spend a lot of time inside here.”

Cassie stayed silent for a while.

“Cassie you need to talk, and fast.” Nick said in an almost threatening tone.

“You know what?”

“What?” Nick responded eagerly hoping she had decided to finally tell the truth.

“If you guys do not believe me, then you can arrest me on whatever charge and stop forcing me to confess to something I didn’t do.”

Nick let out a sigh and moved to open the detective’s door.

“Anything?” Paul asked.

Nick shook his head.

The detective sighed too.
