The Odds Are Against Me - Episode 15
"Oh really? Someone called? Well, I didn't know. Maybe your phone was on silence or I was busy answering another call with mine", Funmi replied.
"Eh, really? But you picked the call from what I can see here on my phone", I said.
"Maybe, it was a mistake, and I wasn't aware of it", she said and looked away from the window. I shook my head and decided to call back to know who it was. I noticed how Funmi was staring at me with disgust, while making faces and gesticulating as if I was trying to pretend on something I wasn't aware of. The phone rang twice.
"Hello", I said immediately the person answered.
"Hello, Afam, so you called to insult me or probably say something nasty because I called you, and your wife mistakenly picked, eh", she said.
"Oh really? What a mess", I said and terminated the call.
"So, Lola called. She is your friend after all. Why are you so cold, then?", I asked.
"So cold? Really? Did I say so?", she asked, slightly infuriated.
"Oh, No", I replied.
"Good", she said. We arrived at the airport, and our suitcase were brought down

. We presented necessary requirements and other things. We took our booked flight to Accra. We touched down at the airport and drove down to the hotel we were meant to lodge. We settled the receptionists and we were given the key to the room we lodged in. We entered the room, I dropped my suitcase on the bed and laid tiredly on my back. I made an exclamation depicting how stressful the journey was. Funmi was busy arranging things inside her suitcase on the table, while I stared at her.
"Uhmm, you can't be giving me a silent treatment", I said. She ignored and continued doing what she was busy doing. When she was done arranging things in her suitcase, she moved close to where I was sitting. I had removed the T-shirt I had on and she placed her head on my stomach. I waited for her talk, after some minutes, she removed her head, and stood straight, then looked into my eyes.
"Tell me the truth? Do you have anything to do with Lola?", she asked. I stood up immediately and looked into her eyes in disappointments, and blurted.
"Why did you ask such question? You found anything sinister in my phone?".
"Oh please, don't feign ignorance. I know my friends very well. I don't have any problem if you have any of their numbers, but I don't understand what you are doing with Lola's contact when the only time we had fun together, she wasn't lively. Again, you didn't save it? It begs the question. You were trying to hide something, I guess?", she all asked angrily at once, and flew her hands openly in the air.
"Cut me some slack!", I yelled. She freaked out, and moved backward. I was back to my normal self and started apologising. I had the temperament of reacting in a volatile way whenever I am accused of something or riled extremely. I calmed down and started explaining everything to her. After I was done, she asked why I didn't tell her these, all the while. I replied that she couldn't have done anything as a woman with dignity.
"It's in my position to fight for myself in term of temptation. Or I have failed myself as a human. You don't have a need, going in a fight with your fellow woman just because of a man who doesn't care about your feelings. I think the wife should start with her man first", I said.
"You are right", she replied. We both laughed and locked lips together. We moved to intense romance and had sex that night.
"You'll be pregnant with triplets before we are done", I teased her. She laughed.
We spent three days in Ghana.

. We toured around the city. We visited different tourist and recreational centres. We tasted their different local foods, and watched their cultural displays. We went deep into their rural areas and were impressed in their cultural diversifications. We left to South Africa after the third day. We repeated the cycle we did in Ghana. South Africa women came in different sizes and shapes; I had to overcome the temptation my eyes left me with. We had our wedding on Saturday, we left Lagos to Accra on Sunday. We departed Accra to South Africa on Wednesday and we were back to Nigeria on Saturday. On Sunday, we had a Thanksgiving service for a successful wedding and we started living as newly wedded husband and wife. But Lola still haven't stopped disturbing me.
