The Odds Are Against Me - Episode 21

 

Instead of answering me, Bella's phone rang, and she picked it. I stared at her as she talked to the person that called her. After she was done, she sat down on the sofa, and there was a knock on the door. Her driver entered with packs of foods. Bella collected it and arranged them on the table. She requested I should bath at least . I was skeptical, but finally did. Bisi bathed too at Bella's order.

I ignored Bella's activities and started playing with Anderson as he jumped on my body, while Bola sat on the floor and played with her toys. Not long after, Bella's driver knocked and entered. He struggled to carry the cooler in, while Lola sat on the chair staring at him, after she had removed her face from the television she was formerly fixated at. 

"Hey, welcome back. You can bring it here", Bella commanded. She led her driver to the kitchen as they dropped whatever they had in it. Bella told Bisi to accompany her gateman, so they'd get the remaining things out from the car. I gazed at Bella as she opened the cooler and started serving foods inside plates, she had kept on the table. I vouched not to ask her any questions because I'll surely get to the root of whatever they were up to. The driver entered with a pack, while Bisi had a bucket filled with cold drinks

. Bella collected them and placed on the table. She moved to the sitting room from the dining she had been in.

"Err, Lola, why did you follow me since you know you'll not do anything?", Bella asked.

"Do I owe you any chores? I am here for Funmi. I left you to do everything since you never wanted to carry me along while trying to impress somebody", Lola said, and gave me a side look.

"Oh really? I'm not cut out for your drama, if not for Funmi, I wouldn't have had anything to do with you. You are not on my level", Bella said and flipped her hairs backward. I burst into laughter, and used my hand to cover my mouth. I stared at Lola and noticed she was filled with rage, and my unsolicited laughter angered her more. Bella walked away and Lola started barking.

"I won't blame you. People you attended university with are all married, but you are here forming house girl for one", Lola shouted, and she continued ranting. When she was done,  Bella dropped another bombshell.

"Do you know the difference between us? I'm engaged and doing what she will do for me, instead of hoping around with her husband"

"What?!", Lola was in rage, she stood and made to challenge Bella physically, I blocked her by holding her two hands.

"Will you get you filthy hands off me", Lola yelled again, and tried to yank her hands off from my grip but couldn't. I whispered into her ears, "but she is hundred percent right about your desperation". And I freed her immediately, she frowned, staggers back and guffawed. I continued laughing. She was probably wondering how Bella knew about us. But little did she know that when Bella suspected the coldness between Lola and I, she asked and I told her everything. But I begged her not to tell my wife, so she won't make a scene and create enmity. My wife already knew Lola's desperation but thought it had ended, last time she got into relationship.

"Do you think you are my match if we are left to fight?", Bella asked, while she tried to pack and arrange her hairs backward.

"Thank your stars that you have a saviour or I'd have thought you a lesson today", Lola said.

"Easier said than done. Forget you behave like a street girl, but you'd be thought a serious lesson", Bella scoffed.

"It's okay", I begged.

. There was a knock on the door, I asked the person to come in, and the door was opened. It was Sheila. Bella ran and hugged her.

"How is everyone doing? Spare me, I was late", Sheila said, went to where Bola sat on the floor and carried her up.

"She is all grown up now", Sheila said.

"Na so we see am", I replied. Bella's driver was done decorating the house. There was a car honk outside. Bella peeped from the window.

"I think it's time for the event to kick start. Can we all be seated in the dining table?", Bella begged. Bisi entered her room. I sat on the dining chair, while Anderson and Bola flanked me. Sheila sat beside Bola, while Lola walked sluggishly to the dining table, before she finally sat down. 

"Yes, it's the guest, I'll stand at the door as he enters", Bella said.

"He?", I asked.

"Yes, he", Sheila said, looked at me and laughed.

"Phew", I gasped for breath.

When the door wanted to open, Bella quickly put off the light. It was 7:00PM and everywhere was dark.

"Oh, God! Who took the light?", Anderson shouted.
