"Arrgh, Oga is back from Abuja. Thank God," she blurted and accepted the call immediately.

She placed the pine close to her ear, "Hello, oga."

"Hi, Esther, I read my daughter's interview this morning and I've been calling my wife but she hasn't been picking. Anyway, I'd an appointment in Lagos hence why I decided to drop by . I never bargained to come before because I visited not long ago. I'm in the house and everywhere seem deserted. I saw Ochuko. My wives number has been switched off. I'll be at hospital now. General hospital, right?" He spoke all at once.

Esther swallowed spittle, "okay, sir," she muttered before noticing he had terminated the call. She sat down again and supported her jaw with her palm and gazed on the floor.

Not long after, Ngozi's father walked in immediately, "hey," he called out at Esther. She raised her head up and greeted him.

"Good day, Sir," she said.

"Where are they?" He asked with a face written in worries ignoring her greetings. She muttered some incoherent words and he shook his head in disappointments.

'I mean where is my wife and daughter?!"

The nurse walked close and stopped, "are you Ngozi's father?" She pointed at him after she had overheard them.

"Yes."

"Oh, I see some uncanny resemblance," she snickered, "how about your wife? She is not coming yet?"

"Is she not inside?"

"No."

He shook his head angrily and the nurse led him to the patient's room while Esther followed close by. She held the door and it creaked open

. Ngozi turned upward immediately she heard the creaking noise of the door. She could still see her father immediately the nurse walked in. He was taller than the nurse which made him conspicuous even from her back.

"Daddy," she called out. He moved ahead of the Nurse and sat on the bed. She laid up, and he hugged her and they held each other tightly for some minutes. Esther stood at the door and smiled.

"I'll see you guys soon," the nurse said and brushed Esther off as he walked out of the door.

They finally freed each other and Ngozi looked at her daddy, "I thought you guys wanted to abandon me here. Thank God you came, I want to go home."

"Really? So, you mean your mummy hasn't come to visit you all these while. I know it hasn't been days," he asked while his face transformed in anger. She shook her head in fear. She didn't want to create enmity between her parents. His father turned and gazed at Esther.

"Your madam hasn't been here? Where has she been?" He asked angrily whilst stammering.

"I don't know.

. I'm really scared. She came back that night and waited for Ngozi to come back but when she didn't, I told her that Ngozi went to visit a friend and she went looking for her. Since then, I haven't seen her."

"Blood of Jesus," Ngozi shouted alerting the nurses. The nurse and another one ran to the room, "what's the problem?" they asked in a unison. They gazed at her as her dad held her while her heart palpitated.

"Why did you scream?" Esther asked with her eyes bulged out.

"Shut up," Ngozi's father said and used one hand to shush her to keep quiet. He clutched her chest with his palm to control her heavy breathing.

"What's really the problem?" He asked while still clutching her chest with his palm.

She hummed trying to control her breath, "Did my mum really go there to search for me?" His father moved his gaze to Esther.

"Yes, since then she hasn't returned. I'd have been gone there if I know my way," she said shivering.

"Thank God you didn't go there. Only God knows if my mum survived."

"Are you hallucinating? What the hell are you saying?" his father blurted.

"No dad. The house is haunted," she said and tears trickled down, "maybe my mum didn't survive. I saw a ghost that chased me till I ran out of the compound, then across the road and collided with a car," she said and touched the bandage on her head.

"What are you saying?" her father asked. There was a dead silence in the room.

In the afternoon, she was discharged and they all went home.
