It was the next day and Ngozi's mother wasn't back yet. Esther rolled out from the bed and stretched her body then yawned while she covered her mouth with her palm. She picked up her phone and tapped it. It was some minutes past five A.M, she flung it back to the bed. She stood and stretched her body, then sauntered towards the table . She yanked off the things on the table in search of something; her eyes moved to and fro in quick successions.

"Whoop, I woke up so early today. I have just been too worried," she said as she paced around the room. She went back and laid down on the bed and slept calmly till it was day break. She opened the curtain and peered outside, the sun that shone in the morning had sprouted out flashing the nakedness of the whole environment.

"Arrgh!" She yelled, "I have overslept." She waltzed outside the house to the boys quarter. Ochuko had a toothbrush in his mouth as he brushed fervently making noises. The lather formed by the paste plastered all over his lips. Immediately he saw Esther, he poured water into his mouth, ran it all through his mouth and vomited.

"Essy, my love. How far? Shey madam come yesterday?" he asked.

"Are you not the one who is meant to know

"Errr... Naso, but I just wan confirm maybe she sneak in. We no fit tell."

Esther gave him a sharp disgusted look but his humour overcame her anger and she dazzled a smile, "na you sabi," she said. "I'm going to take my bath, I'll be in the hospital sooner." She walked into the house and Ochuko continued what he was doing.

Esther jostled in between the people that surrounded the newspaper vendor outside their street, as they discussed politics and about the girl that had accident the other day. They mumbled and rambled. She couldn't get to the front where the newspapers were arranged. She looked into her purse but she had only hundred naira that would be used as transport. She wanted to buy the newspaper; that was the only way, she could get it.

"How much is the newspaper?" She asked a man that stood with his hands akimbo.

"Two hundred and fifty naira."

"I have only hundred naira with me," she replied and scrambled through her purse.

"Hah, fine sister, Na complete sports that money fit buy. If you sabi football, you fit buy am. Na fifty naira only."

"Don't worry," she blushed and smiled. "The crowd is too much there," she said again.

"Na the interview of the girl wey motor jammed dem dey read. I hear say she saw ghost for her friend's house. She come run outside and car jam am." Esther sighed at what she considered exaggeration. Immediately a tricycle (Keke Napep) alighted. She waved at the men and entered the tricycle, then they drove away. She was filled with myriad of thoughts as they rode to the hospital .
She told the tricyclist to drop her at the closest bus stop which he did. She alighted and walked briskly into the hospital. The nurses gawked at her as she walked in, acting tensed. Her race was filled with sweats that dropped in pints successively on her face.

"Hello, I hope there is no problem," A nurse asked as she walked closer. She held her neck as she breathed heavily before she stopped.

"Yes, there is no problem, but is there a patient named Ngozi Okeke that was brought here? She had an accident."

"Oh yeah, we are expecting her mum. Her parent's rather. She is psychologically down.

. Are you her mum?" The nurse asked and looked at her from head to toe waiting for her to lie. She knew she couldn't be the mum.

"No, ma. I am their house girl."

"Well, I don't think she needs to see you. Put a call through her mum so she would be here. She needs her more."

"But.....wait," she uttered and the nurse had already walked away. She gulped down her spittle and shook her head.

She moved to the waiting room and sat down with other waiters. She waited for an hour but wasn't attended to. All the nurses that passed by ignored her. She got fed up, and wanted to stand and search for the doctor's office even if it required her to fight her way through, but she was stopped immediately as her phone rung. She brought out her phone from her purse. She stared on the screen and it read, "Oga."
