Bimpe's ghost wandered in the forest. It hovered through the tiny path down the deep forest where only the cawing of the birds and humming of other animals could be heard. On the side of the path were other ghosts cultivating their crops. She was bewildered but ignored as she hovered past them. She got to a flowing river and saw two women sitting on the stone. Their teeth had almost removed except some selected few at the edges and they spoke with their tongue stuck out anytime they muttered a word . They hissed successively at each others ramblings.

Bimpe gazed at them and wanted to speak but words stuck in her throat. She gazed at them for a few minute and finally spoke, "are you people not dead? Why are you hissing? I thought hissing is for those that are still alive and tired of the world."

"Nonsense!" one yelled loudly and wanted to drag the other one so they'd hover away from her sight.

"Don't mind her. Her time isn't up. She is not fully dead. Her ghost can't comprehend yet," the other one said. They cackled and hovered away quickly.

"What are they saying? I'm dead. Yes, I know I'm dead," Bimpe said and observed herself all over. She heard a rattling noise and turned back

. It was Sheila.

"Sheila, you succeeded in killing me. But....one thing is that you came late to the party. I have enjoyed the life you wished you lived. You don't even have a child to call your own," she sputtered with so much confidence. Sheila cackled noisily and hovered to her back. She turned facing her.

"You are not smart. I have saved you from death countless of time. Left for me, I'd have tormented you and made you mad. I never planned to kill you. I wanted to frustrate you. I wanted Tope to find out you killed me. I wanted everybody to know, so they'd despise you and this life will be miserable for you, but destiny prevailed."

"Really?" Bimpe said thoughtfully looking dazed.

"You are a ghost now and still dumb. Welcome to the ghost kingdom. Well, so you don't know your husband's estranged wife and daughter he murdered cold blooded killed you because you are married to their killer and they were after his wife and offspring. Your daughter who is your husband's daughter is next in line. Goodbye, Bimpe, till we see no more," she said and hovered away.

"Hahahaha, fool. Compound fool like you," a voice from a little girl said up on the tree. She looked up and saw a girl clothed in a white linen, laughing at her. Bimpe hovered away quickly in anger, "nasty ghost," she blurted.

. While the gateman opened the big gate, she saw Esther standing beside the boys quarter, with her hand folded below her breast and a face written in worries.

"Esther, what are you doing there?" she asked before winding down the window of her car and peering through. Esther didn't hear her as she spoke in a low pitched voice. She parked and came down immediately. "I asked what you are doing outside by this time of the day," she said.

"I'm sorry, madam. I didn't hear you when you asked first," she said and her voice shriveled. Ngozi's mother spared her a quick glance, hissed and started walking into the house.

"Why you no tell am wetin dey happen?" the gateman tapped Esther and she shook.

"Is it not your fault? Wetin you want make I talk? Shey she tell me where she waka go," She replied. The gateman wanted to reply.

"Esther! Esther!!" They were interrupted by madam's voice.

"Ma!" Esther replied and ran quickly into the house.
She opened the door slowly and walked in.

"Where is Ngozi? I hope she hasn't been keeping late again?"

"She went out and didn't notify me. She told Ochuko that she was going to her friend's place...." Ngozi's mother interrupted, "...and you didn't look out for her there?"

"I don't know her house," she quipped in.

"Oh, okay," she raised her hand and checked her wristwatch and it was almost 8:00PM.

"This girl is trying me. How can she stay in her friend's place till this time of the night," she said and dashed out of the house.

"Ochuko, open the gate for me," she said. Ochuko ran out from the boys quarter and opened the gate while she drove off.

"Arrghh, Oyin go hear am today. Her mama comot with plenty anger," he said facing and gesturing at Esther.

"Mtcheeeew," Esther hissed and walked back to the house.
