Set me free - Episode 33

 

Michelle:

 I snuggle deeper into the warm body under me, still under the fog of sleep and I sigh at how hard but comfortable it is. I don't even want to open my eyes and I know it's already morning. Last night was nothing short of bliss. All through the movie, William would narrate vividly how the story was going. I'd close my eyes from start to finish of the movie just to let William's voice guide me through it . It was so much interesting that way. I must have falling asleep to the silent caress of his voice. I should open my eyes and slip away to avoid awkwardness but I'm too comfy. Maybe a few minutes more.
 The sudden burst of the front door jerks me fully awake and through my glasses, I find my father looking like he's going to explode any minute. I feel William start to rouse from under me and I know this isn't going to end well.
"Dad I--" I don't finish my statement before my dad starts to lunge at William. I register the confusion then alert in William's eyes before he tries to pull me away from him. I stand my ground and plant myself between him and my father.
"Get out of the way, Mara." My dad growls.
"Sir, it's not what it seems. We were just--" dad throws a sudden punch that grazes my hair before smashing William's chin.
"Dad!" I yell

. He always spoils everything. William's face is contorted in pure anger but I can see him trying to hold back. The fists by his sides are going red, they should hurt by how hard he's clenching them.
"Stay out of this. I won't have anyone take advantage of my daughter." Dad spits as he grabs William's collar.
"Don't--" William's finger touch lightly on my lips and I clamp my mouth shut.
"You should stay out of it. Stay right here, okay?" He whispers. My dad seems to get more angry with him touching me and he drags Williams with his collars out the door. The silence that ensues only start to make me panic. My dad could kill William. He's a neurotic beast afterall. I should check up on them.
 I follow them out the door and follow the footprints on the beach. My mind reels with various possibilities of how I'll find William. Beat up or worse, dead. And to think I'd thought I was a normal woman last night.
"I told you to get her trust not sleep with her!" my dad's bellow make me stop short as I hide behind a beach chair, a few feets away from where William and my dad are standing on the beach. I strain my ears to hear what William just said but I don't quite catch it.
"You think I believe you? She's blind and naive so you take advantage of a simple job I gave you!" dad's voice echoes back to me and I gasp. I'm not naive.
"Remember the man you killed, boy. Don't make me give you in to the police." My eyes just grow wider. William killed someone! I watch william's head droop.
"I did not sleep with your daughter. You can ask her. It can never happen." The words get blown towards me by the wind and my heart falls. Ouch.
"You better get your act together and do the spying I'm paying for. And remember, gain her trust not sleep with her, you f*cktard. I see--" I can't listen anymore. I manage to lift myself off the sandy beach and stagger back to the house without them noticing me. My mind is reeling from the revelation I just got that I don't notice the car in front of the beach house as I walk in completely zoned out.
"Mara." My head snaps up and I startle when I find Rory sitting on the couch William and I just vacated. I don't think he's been in this part of the house before.
"What the hello are you doing here!" I whisper yell as I look out the door to find my dad and William on their way back. They might not have seen Rory yet though.
"Dude! My dad's here! Hide! Come on!" I start to pull him off the couch but he's making it difficult to pull him to safety. What's wrong with him.
"Calm down." He whispers into my ear.
"What?! You trying to get yourself killed? I can't--" Rory jerks my arm and I fall into his lap on the couch. My eyes snap wide as his arm snake around my waist.
"what--"
"Mara, I see you have met Rory." Dad's voice makes me freeze for a moment before It registers. I see you've met Rory. He knows Rory's name as well?
"We were just getting to know each other." Rory says as his fingers comes up to pull my bottom lip up to shut my mouth. My head is just spinning. What universe am I?
 Rory pull me off his laps to stand beside him, his arm never leaves my waist. I stare blankly at the arm.
"Well, it's good to see you both are getting along well. I would have though Mara would be against the idea." My eyes lazily move from Rory's arm up to my dad's face.

. I'm making sure to avoid the other man in the room. I can't look at William right now.
"What are you talking about?" I manage to ask my dad who gives me a beaming smile.
"I've been thinking about how lonely you have been this past few years alone up here on this beach." dad states.
"And?"
"And well this young man here gave me a solution." He points to Rory who has a smile of his own. I'm still confused.
"This man and I have been doing business for years, you see. He owns a big employment service and supplies most of your helps. He is one of the most eligible bachelor in the city." I look from my father to Rory who winks.
"so?" I'm getting impatient.
"I thought this was a bad idea but it seems you like him." dad motion to the arm around my waist. I try to move away from Rory but he holds me tighter. I look into his eyes. He's trying to tell me something.
"I'm going to get you out of there." Rory's declaration from last night slam into me and I gasp.
"it's a little sudden, I know but I think it's a good idea for you both to get married." dad finishes and I go lightheaded.
"Mara!" I hear two men scream but It's the single voice yelling Michelle I register as Rory holds me up.
"Hey, are you okay?" I look up at my friend for the past five years then let my eyes trail to the boy I crushed on for so long. He's going to hurt me. I don't even know who he is anymore. Our eyes clash.
"Michelle." My eyes blink close as I make my decision.
"I'll marry Rory." I say.
