Six months later

Williams:

"He's been in there for almost six months now!" My mom yell at the charge and bail petty lawyer who was supposedly helping me in court. I can't complain about his incompetence seeing as he was the only lawyer bold enough to take our case and dumb enough to go against the Williams family! I just release a shaky breath. Five months and I'm ready to lose my mind.
"You could have posted bail, madam

. Then he wouldn't be in here till he's sentence is given." the lawyer snap at my mother. Thats enough to keep her quiet. I mean how was she supposed to find half a million naira for just bail?! I know too well that Mrs Williams had a hand in my bail being too high. She wants me to rot here and it looks like she'll succeed.
"why is the case taking so long anyways?" mom asks after an uncomfortable silence.
"The police feel something isn't right."
"ofcourse everything isn't right! My son isn't a killer!"
"He might not be but all evidence are pointed towards him. The gun has only his finger print on it. Said gun was also purchased from a known goon in your area. He was also found at the scene. Finally he has intent, he could have tried to kill the man because he dumped you." the lawyer explain.
"I wasn't dumped." mom doesn't fail to interject

. I just shake my head at the whole mess. There's a silent groan and my eyes snap up to meet Dawn's. I've been too ashamed to look at her since they came. I mean look at me! After promising to make her Mrs Williams, i ended up in jail after getting her pregnant. She looks so pale and emaciated. It's been six month since I've been able to touch her. "Are you okay?" I manage to ask. Mom's conversation with the lawyer stops and all eyes move to Dawn. She grimace as if in pain and i want to run to her side right now and hold her but I'm in handcuffs and the jailer just behind me wouldn't like that at all. "I'm fine." She says quietly. It is obvious that saying just those two words took too much effort. Something isn't right. I go to say more but she quickly change the subject from her. "How can we end this trial soon?" she asks while her eyes plead with me to let it go. I'm sorry Dawn, I'm too weak to protect you and mother. I want to tell her but I swallow my words and my tears. Dawn has to look away and I'm sure she just doesn't want me to see her own tears. "yeah, how can we end this? My mother and Dawn have suffered enough of this." I can't let this continue any more. The longer it takes, the more the media would keep pestering my family. At my previous hearing in court, the press had harassed my mother and Dawn. I'm sure they receive insults every day. Dawn doesn't need that right now. My eyes moves to her bulging stomach which looks too big for her tiny body and my resolve to end this is strengthened. "There's only one way to end this quickly." the lawyer says. With the looks of his face, i know i won't like this way. "what way?" mom asks before i can spSix months later

"There's only one way to end this quickly." the lawyer says. With the looks of his face, i know i won't like this way.
"what way?" mom asks before i can speak.
"he has to plead guilty to get a Forced on the paper and my signature is beaten out of me.
"You can't use that in court! I'll speak out." I spit out blood from my mouth.
"stupid boy." one of them laughs.
"money answereth all things." he adds as they all march out of my cell, leaving me a bloodied mess.
"dawn. Ple--please my wife." I stutter brokenly.
"She'll be fine as long as you cooperate. And so will your mother." the jailer i pushed down earlier states as they all walk away, laughing like they didn't have a care in the world.
Dawn. I'm so sorry for being an incompetent husband and father. Lord, keep them both for me. I won't be able to live without them.

"yes madam. I gave the jailer the papers. I'm sure he'll sign them." the greedy lawyer says excitedly to the woman who was actually paying him. He'd hit jackpot when william's case was brought to him and the woman contacted him to help bring him down.
"Good. I'll make sure to recommend you to my friends. You would make a brilliant company attorney." Mrs William commend.
"Thank you ma'am. Umm and the money?" ofcourse he couldn't forget the money.
"already deposited into your account. Once i get the signed papers I'll double it." she says before ending the call. At long last, the case would be closed with William behind bars. She was super satisfied with herself.
"who was that?" her son's voice interrupts her thoughts and she turn smiling eyes to him.
"a bearer of goodnews. You see, I just removed your obstacle from your father's wealth.

. Now you can take over the company without trash getting in the way." she enthuse. "you and I know he's not my father. May his soul rest in peace. And what the hell do I know about running a company. Please don't bother me with that." Kenneth snaps at his mother as he blows out smoke from his nostrils, the nicotine rushing straight to his head. "Don't you ever say such rubbish!" Mrs Williams ground out as she looks at the cigarette in disgust. "That was how your stupid father ran his business into the ground. Forcing me to work too hard to secure all these. You will run our company no matter what!" she furiously stands up from the couch and march to her room. "That company ain't mine. I'm a musician alright!" Kenneth yells after his mother and for the thousandth time, she regret sending him to the states. She halt in her steps and turn right back to her offensive son. "I don't want to hear a sound about any stupid music in this house! Now get that thing out of my house." she snaps, referring to the cigarette. Kenneth doesn't even spare her another glance as he focuses his attention on the tv. Knowing her efforts her futile, his mother just sighs and continue on to her bedroom. She won't let her son ruin her high on finally sealing Williams fate.
