Redemption - Episode 40

 

I know the upload came late and i apologize. My resumption got moved. So, I haven't been able to write. I was busy settling down in school. Hope you guys enjoy.

Benedicta:

I watch my phone scatter at my feet while my gut feeling kept screaming at me that everything is about to go wrong.
"Oh my God. Are you okay? Sorry for startling you . I was just coming out of my office. I didn't even know you were still standing here." Lucas ramble as he bends down to pick the pieces of my phone. He stands up after gathering all the pieces and hand them to me.
"I don't think it's going to work anymore." He says and my eyes flies to his.
"What?! You are breaking up with me?" I ask quietly and his face screwup in confusion.
"No! Never! Why would you think that?" He asks, appalled.
"You said it's not gonna work anymore."
"I meant your phone. It's broken really bad." He says and gesture to my phone.
"Oh. Yea, my phone." I say sheepishly.
"Are you okay? You are acting strange. Who was it on the phone anyways?" He asks.
"What? Me? Nothing. It was just my brother

. Yes. Brother. Not anyone I am hiding." I laugh nervously at my flop while lucas eye me suspiciously.
"Are you sure?" He says while he backs me up to the door, caging me in with his body. I can't even look into his eyes. I look at his forehead instead.
"Stop biting your lips." I hear him say and my eyes goes down to his.
"I am going to kiss you now." He states as his mouth comes down to mine. His arms go around my waist as he kisses me silly.
"Umm boss? You are kind of late for your meeting." I hear James whisper and I want the ground to swallow me up. Why does he keep catching us like this?
"I have to go to a meeting right after I kill an interrupting friend babes. See you when I get back." Lucas says and peck my lips before throwing a dirty look James's way.
"What? I was just doing my job." James says and chuckles.
"Why don't I just fire you so I can kiss my woman in peace?" Lucas murmur as he walks off with James.
Okay, I should really stop with the lie by omission. Starting a relationship with lies is never a good idea. I breathe out the air I have been nervously holding in my lungs and sag against the closed door of Lucas's office. I don't want what we have to go down the drain because of me. Maybe this party is the opportunity I need to introduce Lucas to my baby boy. Yes, that's what I'll do.

Two days later:

Benedicta:
"Mom, please. I just want to check out the toy section. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please." Larry pouts as he gives me that face he knows I can't resist.
"Fine! Just make sure to meet us at the payments booth." I tell him and he nods enthusiastically.
"You are the best mom." He sques as he hugs my waist and run off in the other direction. He's such a charmer. I shake my head at his back as he races off.
"So, your boss."  Prudence says with a wink as she pushes the trolley of birthday supplies to the cake session of the mall. I couldn't get Cheryl to make Larry a cake because she said she has a big party to cater for today.
"Hey, I am talking to you." Prudence snaps her fingers in front of my face and I mentally shake my head.
"You didn't ask a question. You just said. So, your boss. What should I say to that Prudy?" I ask and she roll her eyes at me.
"You and your brother are the most frustrating people I have met!" She spits and I grin.
"That's why you love us." I say and she chuckles.
"Babe, I love you guys despite your flaw of stubbornness."
"Did you just admit you love my brother?" I ask and wiggle my brow at her.
"Shut up and stop changing the topic."
"Fine. I really like him Prudy." I finally admit.
"Oh my darling. I approve. He clearly loves you. Did I tell you he came to the house to find you just last week? He was so worried. He was also interested in what happened to you in your past." She says and I whip my head to face her.
"I didn't tell him anything! I wanted to but that's your story to tell." She defends and I sigh. I am already nervous as it is. I was able to get a day off and invite Lucas for the birthday party today and I plan to tell Lucas everything about my past.
"You should tell him." Prudence says beside me and I sigh again.
"I will. I mean I am. Today. I invited him to Larry's birthday. I want to see how he relates with Larry before I drop the bomb on him." I tell her as I try to figure out the right cake for Larry.
"You should totally buy this one. It suits you just right." I freeze once I hear that voice behind me. No no no no no. Please God, let this just be my imagination. I didn't just hear that voice. I totally imagined it. I tell myself.
"Yea. The nice man is right. I'll totally go for that cake too." I hear Prudence say. Please, let this nice man just have the same voice.
"What do you think Benedicta?" The deep rich voice asks and I grind my teeth as I turn around to face him. I already knew it was him but the sight of him again feels like I have been hit by a truck. I gasp in deep air as I see his devastating eyes. He's grinning at me while Prudence is looking at the both of us.
"Luis." I force out after a few minutes silence.
"Luis?! You mean Luis, Luis?!" Prudence yell as she shoots lasers into Luis.
"Baby, I missed you." He goes to touch me and my instincts kick in.
"Don't touch me, please." I whisper. He looks hurt and I feel a little weird inside.
"Baby, I am fine now. I got better. For you." He says and moves closer to me while I move two steps back.
"You better go back to where you have been for the last years, please." I whisper shakily as I grab the trolley prudence was pushing and hurrily push pass Luis.
"Let's go Prudy." I say.
Larry please don't show up now. Please God, don't let him see my son.
  I feel tears sting my eyes as I hear towards the cashier's booth. There's no line and I hurrily pull all my purchases from the trolley unto the scale.
"Can't you go faster!" I yell at the sluggish cashier who looks harassed.
"Calm down, Benedicta. Here, let me handle this. Go get your baby boy." Prudence tells me and I nod. Luis didn't follow us and I am a little relieved. Why is he back?
  I skip past various sections to the toy section as I start looking for Larry. I haven't seen Luis so far.
"Larry? Larry!" I yell when I don't see him. I start to panic when he doesn't answer.
Oh my God! Luis has kidnapped my baby! That lunatic is going to hurt him. My tears come down freely Now.
"Mom!" I hear Larry yell behind me and I lunge myself at him as soon as I see him. I hold him against me as I cry into his hair. Why am I crying?
"You are safe. You are okay." I say as I wipe my eyes.
"Mom? Are you okay?" Larry asks and I nod.
"Yes, baby. Come on. We have a party to set up." I say and smile weakly at him.
"Mom, wait. I got a toy! Come, see!" He says cheerily as he tries to pull me somewhere. I can't take anymore time in this place.
"Larry honey. Mommy has to go do something soon. We have to leave now. Forget about that toy okay? We'll get you another one." I say and he frowns.
"Okay mom. I should just tell the kind man I wouldn't be buying it today." He says and I pause.
"What man?" I ask impatiently.
"The man back there with me. One bully kind of shattered my toy earlier. So, the kind man wanted to get me that toy as an apology.

. I should go and__oh, there he is mom!" He squeals and I groan impatiently.Come on Bennie. Just thank the man and leave.
"My son told__ " my words hang on my lips as I turn around to meet no other person but Luis.
"Your son?"
"Luis?" Both of us say at the same time. We stare at each other in shock. Oh God, this is my nightmare come to life.
"You have a son?" Luis asks as he recovers from the shock before me.
"What? Yes. I mean of course. He isn't yours so stay away!" I finally spit out as I pull Luis out of there. 

"Babe! Please, you have to listen to me. Bennie!" He yells but i dont amswer him. I just hasten my steps. I don't even bother to go meet Prudence at the cashier's booth. I just head outside and hail a cab.
I can't get away from that guy soon enough. My son is mine.
