Redemption - Episode 39

 

Benedicta:

Okay, that hurts. I blink my eyes open to see Lucas above me.
"Maybe we should call the doctor again. She isn't waking up!" I hear Lucas yell to God knows who. I really don't need the noise so I place my hand on his. His eyes flies to my face.
"Hey baby." I say and I see him visibly shaken.
"My God, babes. You scared me . I knew you weren't feeling too well on the island this morning. I should have taken you to the hospital instead of dragging you to the studio and getting you hit and then you lost consciousness and your fever broke because of the cold you were exposed to last night and__" I have to shush him to stop him from rambling and he sighs.
"I am fine baby. Just a little headache. You can feel my temperature. Fever's gone." I pull his hand and place it on my fore head. I feel relatively warm.
"You see?" I say and he nods.
"Don't do that again."
"Do what?"
"Scare me like that. I could have handled talina. You didn't have to get hit for me bee." He says and caress my cheek. I sigh satisfactorily and close my eyes.
"I love you, bee." I hear him whisper as I doze off into a peaceful sleep.

Luis:

"What do you mean she and her family moved away from there? Did you ask around?" I ask the private investigator who is on the other side of the line.
"Yes boss. Apparently they moved about five years ago." He informs me

. That was when she left me. How do I find her in this big country?
"Ask the neighbors. Someone should know where they moved to. I have been here for days now without result. I am losing my patience with you." I say and end the call. I can feel my anger bubbling inside me. I pull on the wristband on my wrist and snap it continuously.
"Where are you Benedicta. I need to make things right between us." I mutter under my breath. Images of everything I made her go through taunt me and to distract myself from those demons, I grab the television remote off the glass table In the middle of the hostel suite I  staying at and turn the TV on. The noise should tune out my inner voice.

"As you will notice, they are not alone. We have Jake is partner and friend, Lucas. I think the ladies would be happy about this guest." The woman on the television says and I chuckle when I see Lucas's cocky face on the television. He says something I don't quite hear and everyone laughs.
"You have done so well for yourself kiddo. You proved our old man wrong." I say as I swell with pride for my brother. I am just about to change the channel when the camera moves to a woman sitting beside Lucas. I would know this woman anywhere. I fly out of my seat and increase the volume of the TV.
"Isn't she the Nanny the web is talking about?" I hear the host ask and I have to look at her again to make sure I am not hallucinating.
The camera shows her face again. She's looking at Lucas strangely. There's something there. All along, I have been searching for my woman in the wrong place.
I pull my phone out of my pants pocket and search for latest news on Lucas on the web. I see images of Benedicta standing beside him in one of the pictures. She's wearing a Nanny uniform.
"This has better be all she is to him." I grind out to myself as I throw my phone down on the couch.

Three days later
Benedicta:

"Don't talk while eating Jason." I scold Jason who is rambling on about the episode of teenage mutant ninja turtles he watched last night. He's spitting out cereals everywhere.
"Am sorry." He apologizes and grin. No one can remain mad at such a cute kid for long so I smile back at him and ruffle his hair.
"Don't mess with the hair." He giggles as he tries to put his hair back in order. This act of his remind me of Larry and I sigh. I miss him fiercely. I make a mental note to call him after I get the kids to school when Lucas comes matching into the dining room.
"Hey. Good morning." I greet and he throws me a dark look.
"My office. This minute!" He barks at me and storm out. What's his problem? I look at both kids who just shrug and continue with their breakfast.
"You should go meet him before he comes back, aunt Bennie." Daisy tells me and I nod.
"Okay. You guys be good. I'll be back soon." I say and stand up.

  I get to his office in few minutes but I am scared to knock. He seemed really angry. I rack my brain for what I have done wrong but come up empty. The past few days have been nothing short of paradise. Lucas has been attentive. Bringing me food and water in bed. Feeding me. Reading me stories and singing me lullabies. The only thing he didn't do throughout my days of sickness was bathe me and that was because I stood my ground on that. Why is he grumpy all of a sudden? Okay, you can do this. I raise my hand to knock when the door flies open and Lucas pull me inside and slam the door shut.
"I__" I don't get to finish my sentence before his mouth comes down to mine in a fierce kiss. My eyes close in bliss as I wrap my arm around his waist.
"So sweet and so mine." He growls before letting me go. I make a little sound of disapproval in my throat and he grins.
"Remember when I told you that the day I kiss you, you will know because you will be asking for more?" He asks me and images of that night at the club garage invade my mind. I shake my head at him.
"What was that for?" I query and he shrugs.
"I just think you look beautiful and your lips were just calling out to me." He says and I blush.
"Not that. I meant at the dining room." I say.
"Oh. The doctor called to tell me you are free of your flu and I went to your room just to find it empty! What are you doing out of bed?!" He yells at me and I gasp. My anger rising too.
"I am doing my job!" I spit at him.
"Well, you are fired." He says and I freeze.
"You are firing me?" I think I am going to cry.
"Wait. It's not what you think. You can't be the Nanny anymore because my label is hiring you. We are going to produce your album." He drops the bomb on me and I am speechless.
"Bee? Are you still breathing?" He says in my face and I lunge myself at him.
"Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Tell me you ain't kidding." I squeal as I jump up and down on him.
"I am not babes. You are now a star. You are all over the internet. We have to use this press interest in you to set your career." He says and I start crying.
"Hey. Hey. Babes. Don't cry. This is what you want right?"
"They are tears of joy. I am beyond happy. I never thought I would get here this fast. I owe this all to you. Lucas
Thank you so much." I sob out.

. Lucas caress my cheeks and wipe the tears off my face.
"Come on Bee. This is all you. You are one talented Bee." He says and I melt. I am about to say something when my ringing phone interrupts.
"Excuse me." I say and walk out of the office when I see it's Larry calling. I notice Lucas's frown before I shut the door behind me.
"Mommy!!" Larry screams into my ear as I connect the call. His voice alone, gives me joy.
"Hi baby. How are you doing?"
"I am fine mom.
"That's good to hear. Mommy is missing you fiercely." I say with tears in my eyes.
"That's why I called mom. Uncle Favour is throwing me a party next tomorrow for my birthday." He squeals excitedly and I chuckle.
"That's great baby. Mommy would surely be there okay?" Lucas's door fly open at this time and I startle. My phone drops out of my hand and scatter around our feet.
Why do I feel like something else is going to shatter soon?
