Mirage - Episode 14

 

SO A LOT OF US DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE LAST EPISODE. THIS EPISODE WILL CLEAR THINGS UP. SO LET'S JUMP RIGHT IN.

Minerva;

  As soon as we are out of the elevator, I take in a deep breathe. Now that we are on the ground floor my heart beat is slowing down to its normal pace.
"Put me down" I whisper.
"Peanuts____" he goes to say but I cut him off.
"Put me the f-ck down" I grind out. He sees the seriousness on my face and gently put me down on my feet.
 
  I suddenly feel bereft without his heartbeat under my ear but I know I have to do this . The memory of a strange man pushing someone off that rooftop because of my mother is still fresh in my mind and I kind of wish I could forget it all over ago but I know that man who kept telling me he killed someone for my mother had something to do with my mother's death. If I could just talk to the person who sent me that message to come back to Nigeria. I have a feeling the lady on the rooftop who held me from falling off when I was so lost in my memory is the one who sent me that message in Canada. I shouldn't have let her leave. I was just so paralysed from my memory.
 
 We walk silently out of the mall and I head directly for the corolla parked outside. I hear the door click open and I enter the passenger's seat and rest my head on the head rest

. Today has surely been tiring and I hav a feeling it's going to get worse.

  The driver's door open and Jerry or whatever his name is, slip into the seat.
"I know you have a lot of questions" he says and I nod even though he isn't looking at me.
"I really need to know this. Are you the one who sent me a message to come back to Nigeria? Please I want the truth from you" I say. He turn his body to face me and he looks perplex.
"Somebody sent you a message to come back?" He ask and I nod.
"The same person asked you to meet him at the mall right?" He ask
"Her" I correct him.
"What?"
"I think the person who sent me the message is that woman who was holding me on the roof top when you came in" I state.
"Did she hurt you? Why was she holding you then? Why would she want you to come back to the country? what___"
"Enough of the questions Noah" I say and the expression on his face tells me that's his real name. I wasn't hallucinating that part. The strange woman did call his name. She knows him.

Noah;

 My facial expressions freeze on my face when I hear her call my name. How did she find that out?
"Here's your glasses and your gun" she take both off her and drop them on the console.
"Oh did I say glasses? I meant secret camera. Who are you Noah? Was our meeting even coincidental? Are you working with that woman on the roof?" she ramble on and I have to stop her there. I can't have her thinking I lured her back to the country.
"Pea_I mean Eva" the look she throws me make me change it.
"Minerva, you need to know that I have nothing to do with today's incidents. You have to believe me" I place my hand on her right hand and she jerk her hand away as if burnt by my touch. This settles in my stomach like a lead weight.
  
She looks scared of me and I can't take it. I turn to face forward and take a deep breathe. I can't take the look of mistrust and fear of me on her face.
"I am working undercover for the NDLEA." I say without looking at her.
"It's a drug law enforcement agency and we eradicate hard drugs trafficking in the country" I continue.
"Wait. You think I traffck drugs? That's why you have been tailing me?" she asked and the horror is evident in her voice. I turn to look at her and yea, she looks appalled.
"No pean__ Minerva. I was never after you. Your father is the suspect. He trafficks tonnes of hard drugs every year and I am going to prove it" I say bitterly.
"What are you talking about? My dad may be a strict man but drugs? That's that's that's unthinkable and unfathomable." There's tears in her eyes 
"Your dad is just a serpent in a green grass" I can't help the hatred in my voice as I spit the words out.
"Don't you dare speak of my dad in that matter!" She fire at me.
"I over heard his phone call in his office about a delivery. He's planning something and I need you to stop him.
"Wait. How did you hear a conversation he had inside his office. I clearly remember his office Is sound proof." She narrow her pretty eyes at me.
"Well it was through the listening device I planted inside his office but thats not the point" 
"Thats not the point? You completely invaded my dad's privacy and you think it's not the point? You don't even 
know what he went through after he lost my mother. He's just a feeble old man who lost his wife and even his only child!"
"Minerva listen to me__" he doesn't even let me finish.
"No, you listen to me jerry or whatever you are called. I don't want to ever see you anywhere near my family. If I do, I won't be this lenient and let you off without reporting you to the police." She gets out of the car angrily and storm off. I can't believe I just blew my cover and whatever I had with Minerva.
"Shut shit shit" I punctuate each word with blows to the steering wheel. My knuckles hurt but my heart feels heavier. 
  My phone start ringing in my pocket but I ignore it. My head is just not in the right place to take that right now. The caller has other ideas as he persistently call till I get fed up of my own ringing tune.
"Hello" I grind out, clearly pissed. Whoever is on the other end of the phone is going to get it from me.
"How did you get it out" Ivy's voice angry say from the other end of the phone. Get what out? I ponder
"The tracking device you idiot!" She yell at me and I realize I asked that aloud.
 How does she know about that.
"Don't ask me how I know this but what are you doing in Lagos? Don't also try denying it because I saw you at the mall just minutes ago. "She continues.
"Ivy. I can explain"
"Explain what? I clearly told you not to go looking for trouble but I find you with the daughter of the Man who apprehended your father years ago during your father's drug trafficking days."
"My father never trafficked those drugs!"
"Nobody cares about that now Noah. I give you twenty four hours to return back to duty. Your leave is off" she says and I scoff.
"I can't do that Ivy. Do whatever you want but I am staying here and bringing this Mab to justice" I say and hang up.
 My dad lived for the agency but everybody knows him as the corrupt agent just because of chief. And I am here sulking over his daughter. I need to get this case over with as soon as possible and I have the key to my problems. Both Literally and figuratively. I slip the key I took from chief's guards and inspect it. There's an inscription on it. BHC. What could it mean. It's probably the name of the place I would find the locker this key opens. The C probably stands for club but what club? Something chief loves doing. B could be billionaire, best, boy? Baby?. I don't even know. what does H stand for also?
  I can feel an intense head ache coming on. I rub my temple and close my eyes. BHC BHC BHC
 If only I knew what chief does in his spare time. Or knew someone who knows. Minerva could have been useful now. I don't blame her though. I won't believe a stranger over my father.

. I See my glasses on the passenger seat and an idea light up in my brain. Google. Of course. Chief is a popular man. His life would be on the internet. I quickly search chief badmus' hobbies and the first thing I see is hockey. Of course. Rich old men love hockey. The name of his hockey club is even on the internet. Bernand hockey club even with the address. Bingo!
  I guess I am going to play hockey soon.
