Instinct
"I'm Elijah," He'd begun, once I'd convinced Noah enough to let us all settle in the camp. "This is Gab," He'd said further, gesturing to his left side. "-that's Musa, and Thomas." He'd eventually concluded.
"And do we look like we care about any of that?" Milo spat angrily, but I'd gently placed my tiny hands above his.
"Calm down," I whispered. And turning back to meet Elijah's beautiful gaze, I urged . "Please, go on."
"Look guys, I know we are two different species, naturally birthed to be enemies. However, there's a slight but in this case that you don't understand."
"Then make us understand already!" Noah snapped impatiently.
"Fine," Elijah heaved a sigh. "We used to live pacefully in our territory, on the outskirt of the village. But then one day, we met a girl named Shiela."
"My mother?" I immediately interrupted. He nodded, urging me to calm my nerves.
And then he continued. "Just like you guys, a typical group of vampires consists of five members.. That day, Shiela was supposed to be a prey, but the moment our leader, Duke, set eyes on her, he fell for her

Milo, Thato, and Noah were dumbfounded. Apparently, they'd been clueless about my mother's connection to them. She'd hid the secret so well.
"Shiela told us a lot about you guys," Gab chirped in. "But she couldn't introduce us to you because she feared it will only lead to chaos.. It's true that nothing entices a vampire more than the blood of a banshee, and although we all knew how to manage the urge to kill her, the same wasn't applicable to other Vampires.."
"Please, can you stop beating around the bush.

. I need you to go straight to the point, please." Milo literally begged. By then, he was incredibly calm. I could tell he was just as overwhelmed with curiousity as I was.
"Okay.. So one afternoon, we'd gotten invaded by another group of vampires. They were after Shiela, they knew we had some sort of connection to her, but since we'd refused to tell, they'd ruthlessly attacked us." Thomas explained.
"And amidst it all, Duke died in the process.." Musa spoke up (and for the first time since the conversation started).
"At that point, we felt overpowered, we panicked, and so we immediately fled to another village.. We sensed that they eventually found Shiela, we sensed that they attacked you guys, we sensed Shiela got hurt, however we were too scared to turn back. We acted like cowards."
"So why then did you decide to come back now?" I inquired.
"Because of you," Elijah repeated yet again. "We had no idea Sheila got pregnant. However, that was before I began experiencing these strange dreams. At first, I thought that perhaps, Shiela was still alive because you look just like her, but then I realised you are not her, you are her child."
"Look Lulu, for us to have figured out you exist, we are very sure that the other Vampires know that too. They are definitely going to come for you, and that's why we are here." He assured.
"Well, she's also got us to protect her," Milo rudely cut him off.
At this, they'd exchanged a few lethal glares, but if only they knew my train of thoughts went far deeper, because if my mother had been in a relationship with this so-called Duke, then it only meant that...
"So what you guys are trying to say is that your late leader is my father?" I asked with teary eyes.
Their awkward silence signified an affirmative.
