When I walked into the elevator, I buried my head in my hands and let loose the hysterical sobs that had been threatening ever since I found out he had a girlfriend...

If he only knew, I had grown to like him since the first day I saw him, he would have been mindful of my feelings..

Plus the only reason I was bitchy that day was because Mason had shown up in my apartment that morning and ruined my day...

I know it  was so uncalled for to unleash my frustrations on him since he was trying to be nice  but now I am glad I did... I wish I had done much worse...

Because just like Mason he would have led me on and later leave me heartbroken, miserable and in love...

I can't believe he wants to use me like a pawn in his little game.

I can't believe he has a girlfriend...

I can't believe that he didn't care about me and how I would feel..,

I can't believe that he wants to marry me  for an year and then leave me...

Why did he have to be a cold, ruthless man???

After the elevator's door slid open, I wiped the tears hastily with my fingers and walked out into the lobby...

Pulling my phone out of my clutch bag, I took a long deep breath, thinking it would somehow make the pain go away but all it did was make me calmer...

Few minutes later after texting Leon and Tamara to meet me in the lobby, they walked out of the elevator laughing about something with Vivian....

"What did that jerk do to you????" Leon threw me a serious look...

"And were you crying????Please tell me he didn't  touch you or else he is a dead man...." Tamara cussed out , looking for bruises on my face and neck...

"I am okay...." I replied dryly looking at Vivian...

How did she get us in???
Why were men in black waiting for us in the lobby???
And how did Nicholas Kame know I was coming here???
It just can't be a coincidence....

"Did Vivian fulfill her promise of buying you guys drinks tonight???" 

"Tony told us the boss had given out specific orders that we should order whatever we want and not worry about anything..."

How comes Vivian offered to buy us drinks then Nicholas decided to settle the bill????
Something was definitely fishy...
Either Nicholas used Vivian to get me here or it was just a mere coincidence which I doubt.....

"Vivian do you know Nicholas Kame????" I looked at her in a hard, unwavering way..

"What???"She asked in a nervous laugh....

"Yes because this doesn't seem like a coincidence....You inviting us out for drinks, men in black waiting for us in the lobby, Nicholas asking me to see him in his office and also catering for the drinks that were on you...How do you explain that????" I crossed my arms thoughtfully..

"We just got lucky, that's all...." Vivian swallowed uneasily..

"I am not fool, Vivian Rio....spill it...."

"You heard the girl, start speaking."Leon yelled.

"Fine!!! Nicholas and I are friends from way back and when I asked him for a little favour, to let us have some fun here, he didn't mind especially when he heard that Eve was coming..."

"And the drinks, did he offer to pay for them????" Leon arched a perfect brow at Vivian...

"He said he would cater for everything as long as I informed him when you guys arrived..."

"I knew it!!! I told you guys something didn't seem right but you didn't believe it...How stupid of us to think a leopard can change its spot!!!!"Leon cussed out...

"Do you know what mess you have put me in Vivian?? You would have just let us go to Club Lax with Joy Kendi and Sophie Marcias...." I felt rage pass me through...

"I didn't...."

"Just shut up Vivian!!!" I raged..

"Eve, what happened?? What mess are you talking about????" There was worry in Tamara's voice...

"I will explain everything at home guys, right now I just want to get the hell out of here!!!!"
It wasn't a conversation I was willing to have while sober...

Little had we began walking towards the door when Tony and the older guy blocked our way...

"Miss Eve, I have been instructed to walk you and your friends to the parking lot where Mr Kame's limo will be waiting to take you home..." The older guy said softly...

"Do you think we walked here??" I snapped at him...

I know he didn't deserve it but he worked for the man I was mad at...

"I didn't mean to offend you Miss Eve..."

"Tell that arrogant, cold, ruthless bastard that I have my own car...."

"The man who matches the description was just  been nice..." Nicholas said behind me...

"I think you have done enough for us..." I spun around to look at him...

"Why are you always so stubborn???"  He took a step closer then another leaving just few inches between us...I could practically feel heat radiating from his body...

"Don't you think it's my responsibility to make sure my future wife gets home safe????" Nicholas said in a deep voice as he cupped my chin...

I am sure I heard Tamara gasp behind me...

"I am not changing my mind..."

"Don't be so confident Miss Eve,the future can be so unpredictable..."

"Even though it's unpredictable, some things remain certain like the fact I will never let someone use me like that..." I said smugly...

"We will see about that..." He grinned...
"Drive safe Miss Eve...." He pressed a kiss on my cheek and walked away.

I hated how his kiss did strange things to the parts of my body that weren't anywhere near my cheek...

Like what the fuck Eve, get a grip...

"What the heck is going on Eve???" Tamara scolded..
"And what's with the future wife bullshit???" Leon seemed more pissed than shocked...

"I promise to tell you everything when we get home....For now, let's just leave this place..." I inhaled deeply to calm myself...

The nerve of that man???
I just can't seem to understand what he wants???

One moment he is cold, the next he is acting all sweet and nice...

The  drive back home was torturous for Tamara and Leon since I had taken my stand that I won't say a word about my encounter with Nicholas in his office until we got home....

"Can you tell us already????You are killing me with the suspense...." 
"Hold your balls Tammie, we just got into the house...."

"My patience is running out woman!! I have so many questions...." She threw her hands in the air in emphasis...

"Fine I will tell you everything in my room and Leon bring a drink in my room . We gonna need it..."

He just nodded....

I wonder what's up with him????He has been silence since we left the club and he seems to be lost in his own little world...

The moment I sat on my bed like I had been pushed, my vision began to blur with tears...
"What's wrong Ivie????" Tamara's smile faded and she looked serious at me....

"He has a girlfriend but still wants me to marry him..." A sob racked through my body....

"What do you mean?????"

I narrated to her everything that had happened in Nicholas' office...

"That's sick....."

"Here, have some...." Leon handed me a drink, sitting beside me....

"And to think I liked him, how would he ask me such a thing without considering my feelings?? You guys know me so well, I am gonna fall for him and then what??? After one year am just supposed to forget I was married to this man!! I am still not over what Mason did to me and now this!For once can someone just love me right!!!" A shudder of disgust slithered down my spine...

"God knows I wanna kill that pathetic excuse of a man!!!!" Tamara cussed, snaking her arm on my shoulders...

"What am I gonna do guys???I can't just marry him only to be dumped after an year..." More tears cascaded down my cheeks...

"First I hope you said 'No' to his proposal that man is sick...." 

"Of course Tammie, I won't be a pawn in his little game...."

"Good because you will not marry a man who has an ego as big as the whole universe put together...."

"Do you know why you will never find anything bad written or said about the Kames on the newspapers, Tv, blogs or  the Internet????" Leon finally spoke, intertwining the fingers of our free hands....

"No!!!!" I took a long gulp from my glass, loving the faint sensation as I swallowed the smooth drink...

"Because they are feared....These bastards are the third most powerful family in the country...Do you remember Martin, the famous investigative reporter who died in a car accident days after he wrote about the Kames having the minister of internal security by the balls????" I hate the fear making his voice unsteady....
"Don't tell me they killed him????" There was panic in my voice...

"I am not suppose to tell you this because it will freak you out but Nicholas is a very dangerous man and I just don't want to imagine what will happen to you if he fulfills his threats...."

This wasn't bad....It was catastrophic.

"Do you mean the rumors are true????" Tamara asked in a low voice as if someone was listening on our conversation... 

"What rumors????" My voice trembled....

"Nicholas Kame is the adopted son of the ruthless, cold underboss Kemi Kame

"You are lying!!!!" I downed my drink in one gulp, snatched Leon's drink from his hand and also downed it feeling lightheaded...

"I am afraid I am not!!!! If a man can kill people like they are bugs, do all sorts of illegal shit and nobody says a word, imagine what he would do to you????"

"How comes I don't know anything about this???" I swallowed the bile that had risen in my throat...

"You are so full of innocence Ivie, you are among the few good people left in this world...So what I would advice you to do, is to go and stay with your father in New York for a while...."

"You can't be serious Leon!!!!" I thundered...

"It's either you go away or marry him!!!!" Leon snapped, his voice a mixture of worry, rage and fear...
"Do you want that????"

"I am not leaving Leon!! Let him do his worst...." I hope I sounded as courageous as I wanted to feel...

"Don't do this Ivie!!!Just go away for Christ's sake...If you want, we will go with you...." Leon pleaded...

"I am not putting my life at a pause just because a silly man can't confront his father and tell him he doesn't love me!!!!"

"Ivie is right Leon!! Why should we go away because a man can't stop licking his father's shoes????" Tamara retorted after minutes of silence...

"You guys don't understand!! You don't want to be on the receiving end of his wrath..," Leon was almost on the verge of tears...

"We might not understand but I would rather die than let Ivie marry that man...Let him do his worse, even if he will chop us into pieces and feed us to the dogs..."

"Tamara you know better....You have heard rumors too about them!!!!" Leon seemed pissed, rising from the bed...

"Yeah and unlike other people I am not ready to suck their balls...So Ivie I am with you all the way...Let the bastard do his worst...,"

"Thank you Tammy for your support ...." I pulled her into a bone crushing hug...
"Anytime.."

"You two are unbelievable!!!!" Leon stormed out of the room....

"Are you scared?????" I asked....
"Yes a little bit but I won't let that make me cower....The Kames might be powerful but they haven't meet us..."

I wish we had listened to Leon and left the country because Tamara and I might have underestimated the enemy...

 Our banks accounts, lines of credit and credit cards were  cancelled   two days after we left the club due to a criminal investigation...

Even a one year old would have an idea of who was behind it since we aren't criminals...

Although we were sad, we still refused to dance to Nicholas Kame's tunes...

But as predicted the bastard pulled another cheap stunt...
Tamara was fired from her job and my contract as Pearl brand ambassador(a company that deals with skin products) was terminated with no explanation....

I had plans to terminate the contract anyway  since I realized their skin products weren't  as natural as I was made to believe and  Nicholas unknowingly helped me with that...

Tamara began locking herself in her room more after losing her job and the fear of her slipping into depression like Leon almost made me accept defeat...

"Tammie, I think I should just marry him...." I sighed in defeat...

"No Ivie, I won't let you do that....All our banks accounts are suspended, I have lost my job and you are no longer the Pearl's brand ambassador...What more can he do????"

"But we can't depend on Leon for the rest of our lives...The poor soul just got a job as a bartender...."

"We will figure something out!!!!" She flashed me a small smile that didn't reach her lips and continued to make sandwiches for us...

We would ask mom for help if we wanted  but so much questions will follow that we didn't have answers too...

"I wonder where Leon is....It's already 11am and he isn't in his room..."

"He is a big boy Ivie, he can take care of himself...."

"But Atleast, he should  have called...." 

"Just......" Tamara was cut off by the vigorous non stop  ringing of the door bell that was harsher in a head-ache inducing kind of a way...

"I hope that's is not Leon because I will pluck his eyes out...." Tamara thundered...

"I will get the door...You continue making the sandwiches, I am starving...."

The second I opened the door, my heart fell on my flip flops...

Leon was a bloody mess, nose smashed and eyes almost shut with swelling... One of his arm holding onto the stranger for support and the other was wrapped round his guts like he was holding them in....

"What happened????" 
"The apartment is bugged...." Leon spoke like he was being choked....

Something snapped in me when I heard those words,"Did Nicholas do this to you????"
He nodded....

"Tamara!!!!Come quickly..." I called out as I helped Leon to the sofa...

"Jesus Christ!!!What happened????" 

"Nicholas beat him up....." 

"How???Why????"

"Because of what I told Ivie that night..."

"How did he know???"

"The apartment is bugged Tammie...."

"Fuck!!"

"I think we should take him to the hospital Tammie, he is badly hurt...."

"With what money Ivie????" Tamara snapped...

"We will figure something out....."

"Figure what out???? That bastard has made it a life mission to make our lives miserable....,"

"I don't need to go to the hospital...You two need to leave this place especially you Eve..."Leon stammered...

"That's not an option anymore!!!!!" Tamara yelled, pacing around the living room...

"And you what are you still doing here???We have no money to give you, our banks accounts are frozen...." Tamara shouted at the man who had brought Leon that he flinched...

"You can go Albert, the women of the house are not in a good mood today.I will call you later..."

"Okay bro....Take care and call me if you need anything...." Albert said softly...

"Don't worry he is in good hands, now leave!!!!!" Tamara raged...

I know Tamara was mad about everything but it was unfair for her to be rude to Albert...

"I will get you a glass of water and some painkillers...." 

Terror to began to rip at my heart as feelings of defeat began to weigh me down..

Even if I didn't want to admit, I was fighting a losing battle...

Maybe I should just marry him before another person gets hurts...I might be protecting my self respect and my dignity but what was the point????Nicholas has made it clear he would go to any extreme to prove a point...

I can surely tolerate his bullshit for one year...How hard can it be??? He only wants to please his dad...

As I took out the first aid kit out of the medicine cabinet, my phone vibrated in my back pocket...

I pulled it out and smiled when I saw  Uncle Kamelo's name on the screen..

He ha gone with aunt  for vacation in Mauritius and I didn't see it fit to bother him with my problems...

But since he was back, maybe I should see him later and he might be able to save me from Nicholas' wrath...

"Hello Uncle, how was the vacation????"

"Good my dear but I am afraid I don't have good news for you...."

"What happened?? Has anything happened to Aunt or Tessa????" I stuttered...

"They are okay dear...It's about Owen foundation, it's under investigations..."

My knees were supposed to hold me but they failed as I dropped on the floor...

"Uncle, why????" Tears welled from deep inside and coursed down my cheeks...

"Someone is trying to ruin us..."

"But...." I tried to speak but the words were stuck in my throat...

"We will find who did this and I will make him pay...."

I wanted to tell him it was Nicholas Kame but chose to remain quiet...

How could he do this to me????

My mother and I started that foundation in the memory of my brother...How could he mock that memory???

He had crossed all the limits....

I wish I had the strength to fight harder but I couldn't...

He had finally gotten me where he needed me...

He must have found out that I would never let anything happen to the Owen foundation...

Many kids depended on it...

I would rather marry him and be the other woman for a year than  have the donors think that the foundation might be a scam...That would affect the trust they have in me and  my mom...

I never thought I could hate someone this much...
I felt like he was squeezing the life out of me and I couldn't  do anything to stop him....

"Ivie what's taking.....what's wrong????" Tamara bolted towards me, her arms outstretched....

"He won!!!!"

"What happened????" I felt her arms wrapped around my neck pulling me into a hug...

"How heartless are you Nicholas???Owen Foundation is not a scam!!!Do you know how important it is to me????I will never forgive you for this!!!!"I yelled with the hope he could hear me....

"I am sorry Ivie...."

"He has mocked Owen's memory...." I could feel Tamara's tears on my back....

"He won!!!!" I said brokenly....
