"Ahhh!!" Nneka let out that feminine scream, the one a girl makes when she's super excited about something and uses her palms to fan herself. She has been holding it since I started giving them the gist.
"So you said yes?" Amaka asked,
There was a pause, short enough to be ignored but long enough to keep them in suspense.
"Yes!" I finally spoke, "I said yes!" I announced as I flashed the diamond ring on my finger in their faces.
"Wow! Girl you are made! I'm so happy for you" Uju said as she held my left arm up to admire the ring.
I zoned out.

Nneka, Amaka and Ujunwa have been my close friends for nearly five years now, we met at our final year in the University and we've stuck together ever since.
They were with me when I met Nonso, we've been through thick and thin, so now, I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.
Thinking of Nonso, something just didn't feel right about this wedding, sure it was all I've always dreamed of, but now that it's here, it didn't feel right.
"What are you thinking of?" Uju asked, cutting me off my thoughts. "Nothing", I replied with a fake smile

. "Better be nothing o, because we have a wedding to plan" she said as she grinned from ear to ear.
"But babes, don't you think it's too soon, I don't want to be in a haste o", I said, making Amaka give me that look that clearly said 'I'm confused'.
"I mean I'm excited and I love Nonso so much, but we've not even discussed dates yet, he just proposed and I said yes and we've not gone to see our parents yet and I'm so unsure about this whole thing and...."

"Shhhh...." Uju cut me short, "... I know how you feel Diana, you're having second thoughts and cold feet, it's normal, we'll take it slow if that's what will make you comfortable, all that matters is that you love him enough to want to spend the rest of your life with him. Ain't that right ladies?"

"Absolutely" Nneka and Amaka chorused.

"Now what did you say about not seeing his parents yet?" Nneka asked with eyes wide open.

My girls never hid their excitement, I knew they were going to make me the best bride ever. I honestly don't know what I'd do without them.
We help each other and we're always there, looking out for one another, they've got my back and I've got theirs.

"You have to make the best first impression ever", Uju whispered in my ears, a whisper that was loud enough for the whole squad to hear.
"His parents must approve of you" Nneka said, in the same way Uju did, "They must adore and respect you", Amaka joined in. Then they all burst out laughing.

I remember when I accepted to date Nonso, I had thought he was just eager to get married considering how he spoke too often of his parents pestering him to bring a wife home, "e mu iyawo sile" he reiterated, mimicking his Yoruba mother.
It turned out that I was wrong because he only proposed after two years of being together.
Still, something felt odd.

"When are you seeing his parents?" Amaka asked,

"He wasn't sure, but he said Saturday will be fine" I replied.

"And you agreed?" She clapped back, "He didn't ask you when would be okay with you? Does your opinion and schedule not matter to him?" She said sounding rather worked up, I just sat there staring blankly.

"Ahn ahn Amaka, calm down now, I'm sure they reached the agreement together" Uju bailed me out.

Amaka took a deep breath and gave me this look that said "I'm sorry". It was understandable, she was just looking out for me and that's what I loved most about Amaka. She could literally stab a man for her girls.

"Okay, now we have to teach you manners that will please a Yoruba mother and make an igbo father love you, Saturday isn't far you know?" Uju said while dragging me off the bed.

I stood up feeling nervous.
