I had become an executive at the red cross voluntary organisation I had joined and had to be at an inter regional meet up against all odds. To crown it all, the venue wasn't familiar. So as much as I abhor asking for directions. I didn't have a choice. My loathing it wouldn't change the fact that its my only hope if I ever had a chance of getting to my destination. I got down from the tricycle popularly called "keke napep" in Nigeria, at the nearest bus stop indicated on the leaflet I had . It was in the heart of the state and not many people walked along the road. . The roads were smooth and tarred. With buildings; mainly office buildings and modern plaza's. There were no trees nor flowers , they may have been replaced with street lights I thought as I kept walking, praying I meet a helper.

A girl emerged from a junction , a few yards from where I was. From the way she walked sprightly and her bright coloured gown dancing to the unsteady beat of the breeze. I could only wish she was carefree. Her coarse almost straight hair fell to her shoulders in tangled tufts. Her light brown skin glowed even without sunshine. I took a few hasty strides calling her attention. "Excuse me please" she stopped, without turning around to see who summoned. She simply stood where she was.

. "Strange" I mumbled as I walked past a bit, to face her. I couldn't believe it. My gaze met a set of the clearest milky blue eyes I'd ever seen anywhere. I had read about ocular albinism and how people's eyes put on unusual colours due to a lack or complete disappearance of melanin in the eye area, leading to a reduced pigmentation of the iris or thereabout, once or twice in articles, but this is no article, it is real. Her face was apple shaped, her nose pecky and one could always mistake her full , thick lips for plum if she puts on a red lip gloss. "Can I help you?" She asked with a smile . Her luminous blue eyes brightening. I opened my mouth to talk, but seemed to have a sudden brain damage as I lost track of everything I had planned on asking. Subconsciously I took out the invitation flier and pointing at the venue managed to stammer "do you know where this is located?" She tilted her head at a sixty saying "do I get get crucified if I say I don't know?" Now I took notice of her velvety smooth voice. "No one in their right senses would do that" I answered being a bit eased with her humour. "I'm new around here. So I don't know a lot of places and right now I'm just taking a tour and finding places myself. I could help you around" she offered , adjusting her glasses. Her voice sounded like a song, a sweet sweet song by a lark on a tree branch at 10am. "Thanks" I muttered looking up. "Oh! The impending rain? Its regular these days. If it comes pouring I'm afraid you'll have to wait it out" she said, pulling out a paper and unfolding it.
