"Its a map! Dont look at me that way... I'd rather carry it around than get lost" she yelled softly as I kept staring at her. "I was wondering" I answered shyly and turned away slowly. We walked a little longer as she kept staring into the map, adjusting her silver rimmed glasses at irregular intervals. "Do you even understand that thing?" I enquired as we kept walking . She ignored. The sky turned darker and not long after, the rumbling came from the sky as if giants were drumming up there.

It started to drizzle. "It would be better if we pull over and ask for directions. Or you might as well put back your map or it would get nicely ruined by the rain" I advised her. "Bite me" she exclaimed. Not sure I heard her "what did you say?" I asked.. "Nothing, but I just think we are lost" she answered with a devilishly cute smile" "And it's raining! Don't you think we are damned" I asked expecting her to panick. "We ain't no damned people nigga. They belong to hell." She smiled looking away then continued.. "We are just two folks lost in a city and don't even know each other" I sighed in despair.

Luckily for us the government provided seats and a shade for people at bus stops nowadays. We waited for the rain in silence, being the only ones there

. "You know you are the only one who's not scared of my eyes the first time we meet" she said looking towards me . " why would anyone be scared of it?" I asked sincerely. " its quite odd. I mean, its a sharp contrast to my skin colour" she added. "Actually, I think its beautiful " I complimented, looking at her. She shied away. "You know, its still the same reason I was sent back to Enugu. I used to put on brown contact lenses. No one knew I had a weird eye colour. Until ..." "We better sit down, I have a feeling its about to get interesting" I jested while sitting down and and gesturing her to a sit near me. She laughed and sat down. " it's not interesting, its sad" she insisted. looking down. Before I could say anything.. She continued. " I was sick and after treatments at home. I lay down for the night and had removed my contact lenses. The following morning, Glory my best friend visited, she wanted to be the first to wish me a happy birthday. She made sure my family didn't let me know" she smiled, staring into the rain. "She badged into my room. Screaming ' happy birthday Mia' I opened my eyes. She screamed and dropped the cake she had on the mattress as she leaped into a severe crisis . she was asthmatic and must have left her inhaler at home" tear droplets lurked at the corners of her eyes. She blinked them away and continued " she was rushed to the hospital. Her parents freaked out when she told them what had happened.

They cut all ties with me and my family. I know they over reacted but I think they were protecting their little girl. Her parents also took the complaint to school. Then I suddenly became popular. Everyone wanted to see it. I had to manage to finish my secondary education and that my friend is how I got here" she finished... laughing. "I'm sorry about that,.. Mia, right? I asked. She nodded saying " its OK. I already decided to live my life knowing I can't let my past get in my way. So I dropped my lenses. Just thought its time people accept me the way I am" she said and in her voice, there was not a trace of regret.
