"Can I come in?" Mia asked letting herself into my room. I lived in the Havanna lounge inside the school, with just one roommate. Its was simply typical of a boy's room. Two beds on either side of the room for each of us. Separate reading tables. Blue coloured walls. A single wardrobe. A single lined standing shelve with our books neatly stacked. the room also had a dark brown carpet . I looked up from where I lay staring at the ceiling. "Mia, I uuhhhm" "Why'd you react that way?" she interrupted. "I don't know, maybe I was simply protecting you..... Because you are.. My friend" I stammered, not finding words to express my feelings. "Sure, that's all?" She asked, staring at me. Her blue eyes searching my soul. "OK then" she sounded disappointed. "Sooooo, we good?" She asked... Her eyes piercing the very truth i was hiding... She turned to leave..... "Mia wait" I said springing up and grabbing her arm. She turned to face me. I started in her face. She looked down, her lashes almost covering her eyes. "Do you feel awkward standing this close to me?" I asked raising her jaw with my hand. She smiled nervously, her eyes flickering. She said nothing even though she made to talk

Our love grew stronger as days went by. But I made sure I heeded mum's advice on immorality. I never got in the way of her studies and neither she, mine. She had more days than I to stay in the university. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months until my stay was over.. I bagged a first class honours and so was a beneficiary of the university's post graduate scholarship as I got a scholarship to have my post graduate studies on petrochemical engineering in the United Kingdom.. "Promise you won't run off with another woman when you get there" Mia said as we stood in each other's arms in the park. When I told her about the scholarship. "I'd never find another you. And you are the one that I love" I assured her" "just promise to always wear that beautiful smile" I requested.. She smiled and I kissed her forehead. Wishing my travel date didn't draw near as fast as it did.
