Beautiful Faults - Episode 11

 

Veronica’s Pov
The trip to John Hopkins was nerve wrecking and I was one hell of a nervous person. I kept on asking myself the ‘what if’ question and had to hold on to Harry’s hand when we got to the door of the hospital. I don’t get why I have to lean on the person that’s supposed to be leaning on me. Harry is supposed to be scared here and he’s not, I’m the scared one.

I had to sit at the waiting room and let the doctors do their job as I waited in anticipation of the unknown . Several minutes later, harry came out of the room with the help of a nurse and I couldn’t help the smile forming on my face. He didn’t have that sad look on his face and I’m glad he was smiling a little even though he looked tired.

“Why are you smiling?” I asked as I help him to sit beside me while waiting for the doctor to call us in for the test result.

“I remember something that June said and I couldn’t help the smile” he replied honestly and I couldn’t help but say inaudible thank you to June for her help so far. 

Coming into our lives have given us every little hopes about Harry. She’s a mixture of rainbow and a little sunshine, she’s always lovable.

When june got back to town two years back, she was a total wreck, a shadow of her past self

. I remember visiting her twice after the death of Justine and when I saw her, I was both sad and angry, angry at myself for not being there for her. 

She had attempted to take her own life twice and she wasn’t successful not because she was lucky but because I know God has a real good purpose for her life. 

She stayed indoors and never came out, most of the people living in our town didn’t even know she was back in town.

. I don’t even know how I was able to convince her about helping us with Harry but I knew she agreed after persuading her for what seems like months.

“You can come in now” the nurse told us and I helped harry up to get into the doctor’s office and prayed silently for a good news.

“Let me get straight to the point, I have both good news and bad news” I almost gagged at his words, why must there be a bad news in this case

“Which one should I tell you first?” he asked smiling and I imagined Harry being in that seat and smiling while delivering bad news to his patients. 

Is this karma biting back at him? I pushed the crazy thought away from my mind.
“Bad news first” Harry had already replied before I could decide which one to go with.

“Okay, your eyes are getting really bad Harry, you could lose them in a matter of months but the good news is that, it’s still fixable with the help of surgery and because we can’t waste time, you should come to the hospital on the 20th of next month, that’s few days from now, so we’ll get to it” I almost screamed for joy as I realized that Harry was going to get his sight back. Mom and June will be so happy.

“Thank you so much, Doctor. We’ll be here next month for the surgery. Thank you” I almost hugged the doctor out of joy as I walked my brother away from the hospital and began the ride back to our hometown. I couldn’t wait to share the news with everyone.

“you’re that happy, Veronica?” harry asked
“I’m more than happy Harry, you get your sight back means you get your carrer and your life back. This is amazing” I replied

“Even if I get my sight back, things won’t be the same again, you know that right?” he said destroying the whole mood that I was in.
“I know but still, it’s a step towards the good step, you get right?” he only nodded and I faced the road back. “Have you called June since we got here?” he asked changing the topic.

“No, it skipped my mind but I guess Felix told her about it already because I called him when we left the hospital and he said he’s with mum and June” he replied with an okay and went silent after that.

The ride home was quiet and I wanted to ask him about what he was thinking, but decided to leave him alone with his thoughts.
”We are home” I announced
“why is it this silent, mom isn’t here with her screams, hope all is well” I wondered just as much as harry. I helped him out of the car and made our way into the dark store.

Once I put on the light, I saw a huge flower decoration on the floor with felix kneeling in between it and when he popped the question, I knew what was going on.
“I know I’ve not done this the proper way and just took on the fiancée role all of a sudden, I may not be the perfect man for you right now, but you’re perfect for me baby. No matter how many times I f*ck things up, you’re always there to make it right. Baby, I don’t know if this is too much to ask but please, will you marry me?” I didn’t even realize that I was crying until I felt my face wet. This was my dream come true.

“Yes baby, ill marry you” I replied through tears and once he placed the ring on my finger, he hugged me real tight telling me how much he loves me and June was out there to congratulate me and mom wouldn’t stop talking. 

I looked over at harry to see him sitting on a seat at a corner smiling as hard his face could break.

“we’ll be going on a vacation to Bora Bora island for Christmas because I want to spend all the time in the world with you” all the excitement in my body died down as I looked over at harry and realized that I wouldn’t be able to fufill my promise of going with him to the city on 20th in preparation for the surgery. 

I was torn between pleasing my brother or myself.
