A bum- A homeless man

This chapter is dedicated to everyone out there going through hard times, just don’t give up yet, more like, don’t give up ever. Life teaches a lot of lessons, both good and bad and everyone that you see out there have their own problems and issues, nobody is perfect . Never let your own problems define you, because you’re more powerful than it. You’re meant for greatness.

Harry’S POV

“I met Ava back in high school, we were in the same class and I’ve always loved her since freshman year even though I never had the courage to walk up to her” We were seated on the couch now and I decided to make her feel better by trying to tell her exactly everything about my marriage, I didn’t want to keep anything out and all these was just for her to feel better. During my trip to the city, I realized that I actually like June a lot, maybe more than a sister and I don’t want it to go beyond that. I don’t think I can ever let anyone take the place of my Ava in my heart.

“We knew you both back then, High school sweethearts of the year” she interrupted and I told her to jokingly to shut it till I finish my story.

“So, one day, I was by my locker with some of my friends and I was stealing glances at her since her locker was on the other side. You remember Saul, right?, that one hell of a bully

. He was the nightmare of most girls then” she replied with a yes and I continued

“He walked up to her and shoved her out of his way making her trip with all of her books on the floor, everyone of her friends were too scared to help her, so I walked up to her and helped her with the books and walked her to class too. So I got the opportunity to walk her to class everyday so she’ll avoid the wrath of big Saul and from there, we started dating. She was so beautiful I could hardly take my eyes off her once”

“She was beautiful” June affirmed almost in a whisper.

“After high school, we both went to The same university, I studied medicine and surgery while she was a creative writing students, she was into arts too. She could paint the whole city a hundred times and it’ll look different the hundred times. We both had dreams and visions which we included ourselves and we got married and had Ken two years after marriage. She got her mom’s smile, her eyes and looked just like her mother. They were my precious jewels but I never showed it to them”

“You did your best, Harry” she assured me and I disagreed because I didn’t.

“I didn’t do anything June, all I did was work and work and work all the times. I never had time for my family not even once. I always missed out on her birthday, our anniversary or any family events all in the name of work. I didn’t get to see any of her works anymore to tell her how great they were, sometimes I didn’t even go home for days, because all I did was stay over at the hospital saving lives while my own family is there waiting for me. What happened the day I finally had time for them both?, I killed them. That freaking accident was my entire fault, I was also working while driving, receiving a phone call on a highway. It was all my fault” June placed a hand on my shoulder and tried to keep me from talking for like five minutes just so I’ll calm down.

“It was never your fault, because you thought you were doing the right thing. You didn’t know how to go about things because nobody was pre-made for family life. You were saving life’s because that’s what heroes do, you didn’t hurt your family intentionally, Harry. You need to learn to forgive yourself or else this guilt will keep eating you up for years and you won’t be able to have a life. It was never your fault.

I remember a word I read from A walk to remember by Nicholas Sparks “Life, I’ve learned is never fair, if people teaches anything in school, that should be it”

She continued “life teaches us to fall and rise back, to wrong and forgive. If you don’t learn to forgive yourself Harry, your nightmares won’t stop”

“You knew about those nightmares?” I was suprised that she knew about it

“Everybody living in this house is aware and the dark circles around your eyes is not trying to hide it from us all. You need to forgive yourself and hold on to the good memories that you guys had created over times. You’ll be fine”

“I’ll do the best I can June. I’ll try my very best but I can’t promise anything” she laughed and that was the nicest sound I’ve heard in a while.

“Maybe you should start with these hairs growing around your face”

“Madam, that hair is called beards for your information”

“You look like a particular bum that I knew when I was younger. Looking back now, he does look a lot like you though. He wears dark shades too all the times. He’s really the angry type. I think he’s an ancestor of yours”

“Really?”

“Yes, he looks like you and I’m serious about it”

She was laughing and I knew she made that story up too.

“I think you should go through the first door to look for this your bum and tell him I threw you out of my house” I joked

“You’re so mean”

“You’re meaner, you just compared me to a bum, young lady. That’s totally mean” We laughed together after that.

“I need to go home now Harry, but I promise to get you some really nice shaving stick to turn you from a frog to a Prince Charming”

“Whatever” I grumbled

“Goodnight Bum” she was really leaving

“Goodnight June and remember you owe me your story” I reminded her about her promise to tell me about herself and the reason why she came back to town.

“I’ll do that once you get back from the hospital, it’s a promise” I laughed out loud not because I knew she won’t end up telling me the story but because it was nice talking to her.
