Harry’s POV 
The moment my mother came into the room and called me by my full name, I knew something big was coming.

“That’s not fair mom, that’s the cruelest thing you’ll ever do to your own biological child. I didn’t ask for any of these, I didn’t ask to go blind or lose my own family. I didn’t even beg to be a burden to everyone this is just not fair on me”

“You are not a burden, Harry . You’ve never been one and you’ll never be one. There are times when I feel bad too for everything that happened to you, but I have to stay positive abut it all and now that my prayers have come to pass, I don’t have a say here too. My hands are tied and you know it. If I don’t do this, I’ll lose this deal and I didn’t even know the date will be the same” The international company that she signed a ontract with at the start of the year will hold an event and they want her to cater for the feeding and all. 

Ufortunately the date collides with the same day I was to have the eye surgery next month and I still can’t fathom the reason why mom will decide to choose the company over her child and Veronica, a vacation over her own brother.

“You don’t care, stop pretending you do” I proclaimed

“You better watch your mouth there young man. When you decided to stay and practice in the city after you graduated, who supported you?, when you lost your eye, your daughter and your wife, who was there for you? Whwn you couldn’t practice anymore, who held you down? It was me and Veronica

. You decided to leave your mother and sister in the city for a city girl and did we chastise or hate you for that? No, we didn’t. Not because you are a son or a brother to us, but because we love you and that you mean the world to the bth of us. Stop being bloody selfish, Harry. If I have an alternatve, I would be glad to let something go there in place of me while I stay here with you through it all. Veronica matters too and so do I”

“This isn’t about me being selfish. I didn’t leave you people behind here at the countryside all by yourselves, I checked up on you guys” I defended myself

“That was after you married Ava, and gave birth to Ken and decided that I had the right to know about your new born child. You didn’t have the time to check up on your mother and sister” she was partially right and it hurts to know I did wrong.

“I didn’t make time for Ava and Ken too and that’s my greatest regret. I didn’t care about anything else but my job and that’s why I hate the fact that I get to have my eyes back and move on with my life without both if them here with me. I don’t want to move on without them” My mother hugged me from behind and assured me I’ll be fine.

“Nobody is telling you to move in without them, they’ll always be a big part of your life because they were once a huge part of it. All you have to do is take them along with you, here in your heart” she used her finger to touch a part of my chest where she thought my heart was. Forgive yourself and always remember the good memories you guys made and love them always and forever. When your father died, I thought I couldn’t do it all alone but here we are. We’re good and we moved on with him in our hearts” 

My father died when I was 12 and veronica was 10 then, I was asked to say a speech at the funeral and I couldn’t find anything to say because it was too hard to believe that he was gone forever. He was our hero, a cop who served the society with his all. Even though he died on the job, he was remembered and loved by all who knew him. We had to stay with my grandmother few days after his death because mom was crumbling and I don’t know what lifted her up again but I can’t forget the smile on her face when she came to my gransdma’s place and told us that we’ll move on now with dad in our hearts because that was his new home. 

It was difficult at first that I had to take a job when I turned fifteen but things got better after mom’s bakery became a huge success and she was able to afford medical school for me and culinary school for veronica since she got mom’s love for baking.

“How am I supposed to do this on my own?, I can’t go all the way to the city by myself. It’ll be too difficult.

“Ask June to accompany you to the city for the surgery, moreover, I’ll be there few hours into the sugery or maybe get there few hours after its over since ill be leaving immediately the event is over. I wanted to ask June myself but she sent me a message that she won’t be here today so you have to ask her tomorrow when she’s here” she suggested and even though it was the only option right now, I don’t really have a choice.

“What if she says no?” I asked
“Let’s stay positive, she might say yes. Incase she won’t be able to go, then we’ll request for a nurse from the hospital. So that should do”
“You planned everything already, right?” I said smiling

“Isn’t that why I’m a mother, your mother too. You should smile more, Harry, it looks good on you” I nodded and she hugged me again.

“I think you should talk to June” she suggested and I asked her why she said that. “She accompanied me to an event the other day and I saw her talking with some girls. Th next thing, I saw her walking out of the house into the rain while those girls had this evil smirks on their faces. I don’t know what’s going on with her since I didn’t really know her from the start, I mistook her for her stepsister. She’s going through a lot and she’s good at hiding that fact. If only you had your eyes, Harry. You would know better” Even without the eyes, I know she’s going through a lot and I plan on finding out and give her a helping hand when she needs one because she deserves the best.
