The Twist - Episode 43

 

Romeo woke up.

The first thing he saw was a scissors within reach near the first aid box in an iron compartment.

His head was throbbing.

He heard the droning sound of the chopper and looked around; he was lying on the floor of the helicopter.

Bashir was typing something on a note pad.

He made to grab the scissors, stand up and stab Bashir but noticed his hands and feet were securely tied.

Who ever that tied him had made a job of it.

He scarcely felt his palms and feet.

So he has been caught at last! Or is it a nightmare? He closed his eyes then opened it with hope of finding himself in his comfortable room.

Instead he saw Bashir staring at him.

"We are going to Stella's house.

Bashir said.

Romeo closed his eyes again.

Bile rising in his mouth.

Stella! He cursed her under his breath.

Had it been she warned him about a security guard with the experience of a jungle commando, he would have get more boys. Good boys that knew the game

. Killing this man would have been so easy.

Now her stupidity has fouled what ought to be the sweetest take of a life time! After all these years of carefully planned professional operations, this is how he ended up. Stella! He will give his entire savings to strangle her if given the opportunity.

The Helicopter landed in a primary school field with 3 police cars and about 8 heavily armed policemen waiting.

Bashir jumped down from the chopper and the inspector in charge greeted him with a salute.

"Keep off.

This is my operation lieutenant, I advised you go back for medical check up.

You don't look too good for this" the inspector said.

"Inspector, allow me to finish this. The only person remaining was merely a lady. I knew her, let me hand it."

Then seeing the expressionless look on the inspector's face, Bashir added.

"Please, grant me this opportunity"

This Inspector stared at his bandaged arm and gave him a nod.

Bashir thanked him and called the policemen together.

He briefed them how to surround the house and not to shoot to kill.

 He entered one of the police cars and the driver took off.

One of the policemen guided Romeo to a waiting police car and followed them...

From Stella's POV.

What's the matter Romeo? Why is he not picking up? Maybe they have finally get to Mark and made the ransom demand.

She resisted the urge to call Mark and ask him if he received any ransom call.

She had been pacing up and down the sitting room for almost one hour now.

She will only have to wait.

She had took the risk of calling Chief B.C Okpara's company and after identifying herself as Stella the wife of the billionaire's family doctor, the Secretary gave her Chief B.C Okpara's private line.

She had immediately sent it to Romeo but the idiot has not contacted her yet.

She has been trying to talk to him since then to know his next plan.

She was about to dial Romeo's number again when the door opened and Bashir walked in with a police inspector.

The presence of Bashir and the policeman jarred her and Stella tried in vain to control her panic.

"Bashir, what do you want?" She said in trembling voice.

"You are under arrest madam."

Said the inspector.

"For what?"

Stella asked, trying to be brave.

The inspector only waved and another policeman led Romeo inside the sitting room.

"Now look officer, I don't know this young man. Bashir what is the meaning of this?"

"Madam you are to remain silent, anything you say or do will be use against you in court!"

Barked the inspector.

"I have the right to call my attorney. I have the right to..."

Her phone rang and she stared at the phone screen.

Romeo! She glanced up and saw Bashir with Romeo's phone.

"You sent a message to this phone. You claimed you don't know him yet you sent my boss's number to him."

Bashir said. Stella felt trickles of sweat on her forehead, her legs became shaky and she suddenly slumped on the settee.

"Officers, come and take her to the car."

Said the inspector.

Two policemen came in and handcuffed her....
