The Twist - Episode 28

 

Please guys I am very very sorry for the delay. I got vandalized on Wednesday night so I lost my laptop and phones.

I managed to buy another phone a few hours ago and rushed to the nearest shade to update this particular episode.

I will update more when I get home.

The uncompleted building was situated in the swamp area of the city.

A slim black junkie with dirty fingers was busy trying to wrap Indian h*mp with shaky hands inside a room that looked more like a rat hole.

He sneezed, blew his nose with a piece of paper and threw It towards the overflowing dustbin that stood at the corner of the room.

He wasn't happy.

The c*caine and indian h*mp supplier had been late.

He had no money to pay him for the drug so the guy only pardoned him with two tabs of weed.

The selfish swine! He couldn't believe he worth over one million naira a couple of months ago.

Most of money had gone to the drug supplier and now he cannot even give him a dose of his daily cure.

He will burst his nose one of these days and collect enough sniff to last him long enough.

But for how long? He will later begin to long for it when the quantity finishes.

He had eaten stale food from yesterday's left over and his boss is unlikely to lend him money until the next job he was planning.

So he had no hope of quick cash until his boss notify him about the next operation.

He hated stealing and had always opt for it until his last encounter with the Lagos angry mob.

He shivered when he remembered the incident.

He had spotted an old lady coming down from a taxi.

She had paid the driver from a handbag filled with money.

He had followed the lady to a small supermarket and grabbed the handbag to run only to noticed a steel grip on his hand.

He had looked up and saw the old lady holding him tight and shouting

"Ole! Ole!"

Some young men started running towards him when he dealt the old lady a menacing blow on the nose.

She had left him and slumped while he quickly took to his heels; leaving the bag behind.

He had managed to evade the mob and hide until night fall.

He thought bitterly and with regret about the handbag he left behind.

A bag that nearly cost him his life.

Since then he had lost the nerve to snatch anything from anybody and had been hungry day in day out.

He heard a noise below and looked around.

He slowly dropped the weed and moved to the edge of the dilapidated room.

He listened carefully; his face glistening sweat, his heart pounding.

He gathered courage and moved a step closer to the door that leads outside the building. The sandy compound was empty.

He scanned around the empty yard and heard the creaking of plank behind him.

Terrified, he swung around and saw his boss standing behind him.

"You have to sharpen your reflexes, you are being slow these days"

said Romeo as he went into the smelly room.

"You don't have to sneak around like that"

. He hated Romeo.

He gives him the creeps and sometimes he wondered why such a successful businessman combined crime with his daily routine.

His boss was successful. He had houses and shops.

But still managed to organised highly rated crimes in the city of Lagos.

He paid them handsomely and pumped in more cash in his business.

He walked into the room and watched Romeo as he looked around the dirty room and selected a stool to settle himself in.

He saw the Indian h*mp and scoffs.

"What did you do with your own share of the money still baffles me. Indian h*mp does not cost that much. Does it?"

"I have things and people to take care of"

the Junkie said defensively and sat down on the old bed. Romeo wrinkled his face in disgust.

"Probably your entire village"

He said sarcastically to the junkie and tossed a wrapped envelope on his laps.

"Get ready, we are hitting a kidnapping job soon. The take is big as usual so you ought to study the documentary carefully."

The junkie peered into the envelope hopefully.

"You said the take is big, how big?"

"Big enough to change your lousy lifestyle"

Romeo take one finally look at him and stood up.

Its obvious he was not impressed at all by what he saw.

He had tried in vain to control his shaky hands and ended up stuffing them into his leaky pockets.

He watched Romeo walked out of the room like a ghost and looked around for his Indian h*mp.

He felt like crying when he discovered Romeo had stolen the weed....
