The Twist - Episode 21

 

Mark hissed impatiently and shuffled some of the documents in front of him.

The big heap of files is driving him mad.

He examined some of them and signed few of the documents absent mindedly.

He shoved others inside the desk drawer and called his secretary to take care of the ones he already signed.

He had a lot on his mind and could not concentrate on the heap of work his secretary piled up for him.

When his father in-law called him to rush down to his office he had nearly urinated in his pant.

His first thought was to enter the first available flight and disappear into thin air.

But at a second thought he had summoned enough courage and drove to the C.B Complex.

He was surprised when his father in-law hugged him and shook his hands warmly.

The billionaire had asked him to handle the Motor park fencing contract, the supplying of raw materials and other minor things.

Mark had Sighed with relief.

Though he hated sitting in the office, he was glad to accept the job immediately.

For two months now he had been busy enjoying life in his new first class hotel.

Office work bored him and his efficient secretary had been running the office since then.

The lady had been working with the company as the Head of resource and the chairman quickly assigned her to Mark as his assistant when he join the company.

She was small, dark in complexion and always wore a rimless spectacles.

Mark had wondered if she slept with it.

Despite her frail stature, she was a marvelous mathematician and extremely intelligent.

She was the brain behind the massive millions that pour into the company on weekly basis.

Mark hardly do any work in the office, he only signed the important documents and proposals she presented to him anytime she called for his attention in the office.

He practically knew nothing about civil engineering and most of the construction works were mapped out by his secretary.

His life has been all about acting movies.

His father in-law needed him to carry out the fencing project in person for a reason so for the moment he was saddled with the responsibilities executing the contract.

He had drove straight to the branch office of the massive complex of C.B Okpara group of companies and entered his executive office to behold piles of work on his desk waiting for his attention.

The door opened and miss Bimbo his secretary and Personal assistant entered.

"Sir you called?"

"Oh yea, take this files and submit them to the site engineer. Tell him I will be coming to the site soon to see the project."

"OK sir"

replied Miss Bimbo.

She collected the files, walked out of the office briskly and within some minutes Mark heard her talking to the site engineer on phone.

Such an efficient lady.

Thought Mark.

He relaxed comfortably and began to think about his discussion with the police commissioner a few hours ago.

After he had explained his predicament to the police commissioner, he had given him a cheque of 2 million naira to accelerate things.

The chief of police had quickly assigned one of his best CID agent to tackle the case.

The agent, who Mark met at the police headquarters, was a giant with muscular arms and bald head.

He had promised Mark to go home and relax, that in a few hours he will track the boys down with his team.

Mark had drove to his office thinking of Ruby and Amaka his wife.

Ruby had not showed up in any of the police stations and His father In-law just assigned a multi million contract to him which means Amaka have not contacted him YET.

He tried calling Amaka but her number was switched off.

Where is she? He was more worried about his wife.

Then he quickly remembered Chidimma was still alone at home without a guardian.

He picked up the phone and called Bashir.

"Hello sir"

bawled Bashir in his military voice.

"Is she back?"

"No sir"

replied Bashir

"What of my wife?"

Asked Mark.

"I have not seen her either"

"Alright
