The Pain Of The Poor - Episode 25

 

Ada call your father out now for he must hear of this right now.  I went and called my father and mother told him everything, and as she was confronted, she said that she was only joking with me  and I was like who in her right senses jokes with death but since she said so and father believed her, their was nothing more to be done. 

I  left the village for the city the next morning after the first cockcrow. We (my uncle and I ) were to go through my maternal home, so off we went after all  the Nemours  changes of buses I became road sick . 

For it was my very first time of entering a bus or even going on a long road trip all my life. 
Before we got to Lagos it was dawn and we left  the bus station to my uncles house at Ogba where he lived with his family of five.

On  getting home I  was welcomed by everyone and that made me so very happy, after then we  went to bed and by the time I  got up the following day , it was already noon time, after eating my uncle told me we would be going out.

That he would be taking me to where I will be living, what! Uncle am I not to live  with  you atlist that was that what you told my parents back in the village  isn't? 
 
Yes I know I said so but you can see things for yourself can't you? I live in one room apartment with my wife, two children and my wife's sister, so you see there's no way  you can be comfortable here.

But uncle you knew all of this before you came and told my parents that I would be living with you?. 

Don't worry Nne, you will like it therethere, for she is a very nice person and we can always see in church every Sunday,  but  uncle! No buts Ada! we are living for there now he told me and off we went to  Akinyode where the woman lived on getting there I was meant to understand that my coming was all a plan as to come help her take care of her baby . 

I became so angry and disappointed in my uncle for coming to the village to lie to my parents and take me to come and work for an unknown woman who doesn't even speak our language to begin with.  She spoke one language that was sounding like one who wants to cry.

And that was how I ended up in madam Bimbo' house .

At first she was very nice and all that but not long after, she changed she became mean and found fault in all that I did .

I was already used to that kind of treatment so I didn't let it border me that much but what that got me mad was the fact that I was made to wash her undies both the ones she wore on a normal day and the ones she wore during her periods,  and it was so disgusting because all my life I have never for once seen my own mother's undies not to talk of washing them.

Days turned into months and months into years and I was never for once allowed to speak to my parents and  each time my uncle or his wife came visiting I was made to wear my best clothes and look nice so as not to arose any suspicious of any kind of maltreatment and they always buy this all the time and I must not say a thing to them or else I will be dealt with when they are gone, so I was  left with no other choose than to play along.

THREE YEARS LATER.
It's been three years now since I left the village for the city  and madam Bimbo has not allowed me to go see my parents each time I asked she will insult me and call me and my family  names.

So I stopped asking and learnt to  face reality . 
 
THIRTEEN  YEARS LATER. 
I  was allowed to go home and see my parents for the first time since I left the village but with the condition of returning after two days and I agreed.

I got home to find out that my famous stepmother was died . That she died during child birth  living behind four children for my mother to care for, and now I don't  know weather to be happy or sad about the news

. But  one thing was certain  I never really wanted her to die, rather I wanted her to see me return in one piece. But God knows how he does his work.
