The friday morning, Mr Oyinmadu sat outside to eat some kolanut, chewing it and singing praises. He moved his body, sang and danced. He thought the air around the environment was good. (unlike the city’s that was always polluted). The sun shone moderately and the water was clean. He felt good that morning. He stood up to go back into his house then he heard a voice.

"Preacher," the voice called.

Mr Oyinmadu turned back to see seven people staring at him, there were four women and three men.

He looked around, confused . "Yes? Anything I can do for you?" He asked.

A woman stepped forward and smiled "Remember me?"

He looked at her, a little puzzled. His eyes widened as he recalled where he saw her. She was the woman in his church, the one that sat at the back and threatened him.

"I warned you, didn’t I?" She sneered "We are finally here for you."

He looked around and laughed. "Really? So you came into my home, all seven of you, to do what, to kill me?" he asked.

"This fool doesn’t know who he is dealing with," a pot bellied man said.

"Mister, there is nothing you can do," Mr Oyinmadu explained.

They surrounded him, muttering spells and incarnations, they held hands and glared at him. The sky rumbled as lightning struck the sky accompanied by thunder

. They extended their hands towards him as they raised their voices speaking incomprehensible words.

Mr Oyinmadu looked at them and uttered, "My Bible tells me no one shall harm an anointed man of God. Jesus is my rock, my shepherd, my king and my lord. He died for me to put you all to shame. In the name of the lord my God, let every evil agenda before me be destroyed."

The men and women looked up as they heard flapping wings, wondering where the sound was coming from. They looked at themselves, surprised that their incantation had no effect on the preacher. They were suddenly blown back by an unseen force, stumbling on the floor. They stood up, staggering and moved back in fear.

"Do you see that, I see flapping wings, it is coming, it is attached to something. I see a sword. I see a face. I see…" the pot-bellied man reported and shouted as his eyes burned. Smoke fumed out from his eyes as he screamed in pain. The others backed away from him in surprise and clear shock. "My eyes," the man screamed. Blood began to drip from his eyes as he cried. "I can’t see, I can’t see o." He changed into a bird and flew away.

The rest moved away from the preacher.
"No, do not fear, channel your power through me, I will deal with him." The fair woman shouted, encouraging the rest.

The others stretched their hands towards the woman that threatened the pastor in the church. She advanced towards the preacher, her hair transforming into vipers and fangs extended from her mouth. She began to utter an incantation, forming a ball of black energy on her palm and extended it towards the preacher.
"I call upon the spirits of the earth, I call upon the spirits of the sea, hear the call of thy daughter and cause my foe to die. Show your power Ekwensu and put the God of this preacher to shame," she fired the ball of energy at the preacher. The preacher didn’t move, only stared at her with pity. The ball of energy stopped just few inches from the preacher’s face as if stopped by an invisible barrier. The fair woman stepped back in fear, disbelieving what she was seeing. The black ball transformed into a ball of white light and went back to the woman, hitting her in the face. She screamed as her face burned, the skin on her face peeled and melted. Her hair vaporized as she collapsed and fell down dead. The others screamed in horror and transformed into birds and took to the sky wailing as they flew.

Mrs Oyinmadu rushed out, "What happened. I heard screaming? What is going on? Chai what is that on the floor? Lord, have mercy, that’s a human being o. Chineke."

"My wife, calm down, I will explain everything."
Gabriel came back from school that day to meet a crowd gathered in front of his house. They whispered among themselves, shaking their heads and stared at something on the floor. Ifeyinwa was with him and they walked towards his house with curiosity. The people standing there didn’t even notice him and he had to push his way through the crowd. When they finally got to his door, they saw that the object of everyone’s attention was a woman lying on the floor. The woman was badly burned and unrecognisable. He glanced at Ifeyinwa to see her stare in shock and disbelief. "This is quite gruesome right? I wonder who she is and what she is doing in front our house."

She responded, "Umm yes," not taking her eyes off the woman.

"Come let us go inside.

. My father will explain everything to us," he led her into his house.
Behind them, they said wailing and talks, "So Ngozi is a witch, Wonders shall never end." "As if I knew there was something off about her, nawa o. It serves her right, strange things have been happening in this town, rumours of people flying at night and strange birds wailing in the middle of the night." "May God have mercy." "God bless and protect our pastor o." "Hmm my spirit told me something was strange about Ngozi, make una dey listen to me when I talk something." "Old man you don start again, if you have nothing sensible to say, keep shut." Different voices said in the crowd.

The moment Ifeyinwa’s foot touched the doormat, her foot burned and she jumped back screaming.

"What’s wrong?" Gabriel stared at her looking confused. "What happened?"

She began to shake violently …I…what is this?" She whispered to herself, staring strangely at the doormat.

"Ifeyinwa, your foot is bleeding, are you alright?"
Ifeyinwa felt something drip from her nose, she rubbed her nose and saw blood.

"I have to go." She turned and ran away. Gabriel stared at her feeling confused.

His father came to meet him, "Was that ifeyinwa?"

"Yes she had to go." He answered.

"Alright, maybe it’s better because there is something I have to tell you."

Gabriel sat in silence as he listened to his father’s narration of the incident that just happened. He looked at his father in shock unable to believe what he was saying.

"Are you telling me witches exist, are you for real?"

His father frowned. "There are powers in this world, son, don’t you know that? What happened to the previous pastor was suspicious and it seems this is what. I have sent a letter to the headquarters explaining all that has happened. I have spoken to Anita and your mother. You all have to be safe and guided. I will give you a bottle of oil that I have blessed and prayed on. I want you to apply it on your head every morning before you leave and always say a short prayer in the morning."

Gabriel just stared at his father, completely dumbfounded.
