The Missionary's Journey - Episode 12
On a Wednesday night, Anita stood grudgingly in the kitchen, helping her mother prepare dinner. She sighed heavily trying to make her aware that she had no interest in cooking and wanted to go back to her room. Her mother ignored her, humming a song and handed her a bowel of fish to wash.
"When you are done, fry them and add them to the soup. After that you can go," Mrs Oyinmadu said . She left her daughter to finish up.
Anita rolled her eyes, "Nawa for this woman o, she just likes stressing me when I have reality shows to follow," she said bitterly.
She sighed as she washed the fish twice, transferring its pieces to the heated pan and fried them. When she was done, she washed her hands and informed her mother. She strolled to her room and locked the door, putting on her headphone to avoid any disturbance. She played a video on Youtube that showed new styles of applying makeup. She followed the steps with deep concentration, carefully observing every stroke the instructor made with her brush.
Directly beside her bed, by the left, was the window. Cool air drifted in and out of the room through the window making her shiver as she watched the video. She didn’t notice the shadow that passed her window neither did she hear the footsteps that walked just outside her window, stopping just before it

. A naked fair woman stood outside the window. The woman placed her face on the window, glaring down at Anita. When Anita was done with the makeup video, she played a comedy skit. She watched with interest, a laugh occasionally escaping her lips. She turned sideways with her phone, facing the window. From the corner of her eyes, she noticed a humanoid figure staring at her as she watched the video. She looked up to see the naked fair lady watching her. She jumped back and shrieked. The naked woman smiled at her through the window. She placed a palm on the window and Anita saw that her fingers had claws. The woman tapped the window, still staring at Anita.
"Who are you, what do you want?" Anita asked, filled with fear.
The woman pointed her claw at her and nodded.
"Me? But I don’t know you. Please leave," Anita said as she shook.
The naked woman slowly shook her head. The woman brought her tongue out and licked the window. Anita saw that the spot she licked was tainted with squirming worms and dead cockroaches glued to the window. Anita began to pant heavily as tears formed in her eyes. The woman placed a claw on her window and her finger went through the window as if there was no window at all. Anita froze in place unable to process what was happening before her.

. The woman pushed her head through the window as if there was no glass. Her neck began to elongate as it moved towards Anita like a snake. The woman laughed loudly and the foul stench that came from her mouth caused Anita to choke and cough. The woman’s finger drew closer to Anita’s face and the woman opened her palm. On her palm, a mouth formed and from the mouth, a black smoke emerged. Anita became to whimper as the hand drew closer, eyes wide with fear, she moved back on her bed trying to avoid the palm. She got to the edge of the bed and fell backwards on the floor. A knock rattled the door and her mother shouted.
"Anita, dinner is ready, come and eat."
Lying on the floor, she looked at the door and glanced back at the palm that hovered over her bed. She stood up but saw nothing, there was no hand. She looked back at the window and saw no one standing there. She placed a palm on her forehead, thinking of what she had just seen.
"Was I hallucinating?" She said to herself.
"Anita," her mother called again.
"Ma, I am coming," she answered and walked out of the room to meet her mother.
On the window, black worms squirmed away and dead cockroaches fell off.
