Tales of Nene - Episode 1
Unwanted phone call
Reluctantly, she picked her phone. Paul had called thrice earlier to ask if her name was on Jamb website where the admission status was being uploaded.
The more she checked the site the more she became frustrated.
It's been two years Nene finished from St Mary's college, a few kilometer her neighborhood , equipped with modern facilities and one of the top schools in Lagos state yet she was unable to secure admission into the university .
Nene had been privileged to attend the school. Only children of opulent parents had the opportunity of attending the college .She always performed above average , occasionally she came out among top five in her Class . Nene would never expect any material reward, her parents could barely cater for the needs of her and her siblings.
She was fortunate to get a full scholarship which sustained her throughout her secondary school.
As she picked the incoming call, Paul spoke in his baritone voice " Nene, Halimat just checked hers and she has been offered had a score of 59% while Nene had 64% but she wasn't given admission. She hung up on Paul, threw her face downwards and wept abruptly. She fill her Jamb Reg number but there was nothing as usual.
She couldn't afford to stay another year at home, she was becoming too familiar with people in the neighborhood, her dad before leaving for work every morning would rain insults on her and compared her with others who are in school.
This always add "salt to her injury". He was a drunk and also hot tempered .
Her father began to exhibit this character when he lost his job at Nigerian railway corporation.
After wiping her face she continued practising her Computer based practice test which she stopped due to Paul's call.
