Death
Obiageli came to join her mother in the front of the hut as Oluchi sat breaking melons, Obiageli took from it and sat on the other stool. She concentrated on breaking the melon while her mother stared at her, Obiageli glanced at her but continued breaking in silence..
"Oby.." She began "hope you're still not upset about your fate", it was about a month now and she hoped she had forgotten all about Uche, Obiageli did not reply "you know if there was anything we could do" Oluchi said....there was a grave silence between them as Obiageli concentrated instead on her melon before Oluchi suddenly asked
"Have you done anything with him yet?"
Obiageli looked at her and her mother saw the grey in her eyes, a princess, she had bore a princess, Oby looked back down at her melon and was silent then said a quiet
"No"
Her parents had been wanting to know that and she wondered why, whatever she did with Uche was their business, besides she wouldn't be able to face more embarassment if it was learnt that she was no longer a maiden, since she had to remain in her father's house all her life. It was her curse and she had accepted her fate.
The whole village had learnt of the real reason behind her father's rejection of suitors, Ego and her friends had laughed at her, all the males ran while Ezinma had laughed and clapped
"Have I not always said it, this is an evil child, tell me if it is not your mission to destroy this family"she said
"Shut up woman"Okafor said
" No I won't, what else don't I know, she probably killed Eberechi, see Adaeze who called her a witch can't get pregnant..don't kill me too o"
Oby hadn't cried, had just stared at her, but in her mother's hut she cried in her mothers laps...
"Let me just die" but Oluchi had protested rubbing her hair.
That had been one of the many embarrassments she faced, everyone now thought she was responsible for Ifeanyi's death, all her friends shifted, only Uche remained with her but his father had warned him to stay clear of her.
Even though they still met in secret, Obiageli knew that whatever hope there was for them was completely dashed, she had accepted to go to college as Uche grudgingly accepted to marry Ego, that was the only solution for them

. She wanted to die and go back but knew she couldn't leave Uche behind, she had to stay and fight for this, for their love.
She looked at Oluchi now who looked at her
"Good, because I don't want anything to jeopardize your chances...you would go to school and become a doctor or a lawyer..Mr Abah is coming for you this month"
Uche's POV
It was the day before Obiageli was to go to the city to resume school, Uche was in the forest thinking, they had said their goodbyes the previous day..he had finally considered marrying Ego though he still thought and wondered about how he could marry Obiageli still, was there really nothing to be done?
" Its the best, for both of us"Obiageli had said, he just took her in his arms and hugged her..as they cried together.
Its been a month now since that night at the forest, Uche felt he should relish the one place they connected before he married Ego, preparations had already started for the marriage ceremony but Uche wasn't interested, he knew he was still going to be seeing Obiageli even after he was married, marrying Ego was to shut everyone nagging him about how Obiageli was a witch up. Obiageli was also going to school and he was going to miss her but had to go ahead with the marriage anyway as that had been her request. There was nothing they could do, he had to get married and continue his father's line....he was only comforted with the fact that she would not get married to another man.
He held the two trees as he sighed and stared ahead.. a faint hissing sound was heard behind him.
