Discovery
He could hear voices around him. He slowly opened his eyes but things were still a blur so he closed it right back. “Where am I?” he asked still trying to open his eyes but he felt weak. His whole body was weak. Jason rushed to his side and examined him, “he’s awake but he is still groggy”, he said to someone who also came to join him.
They both helped Ed sit up and the woman put a warm towel over his forehead and started spoon feeding him some soup. He felt better now and his eyes were able to focus, “Kana!!!”, he exclaimed
. Kana smiled at him, “Hey there Eddy, you gave us quite a scare for a moment there”. Kana was the only one who always called him Eddy and never Ed. “You are more of an Eddy to me”, she would always say with that twinkle in her eyes that always melted his heart. That twinkle was there again and he was already feeling better.
“Don’t tell me I’m dead please. Did you both die too?” Ed asked with a look of despair in his eyes. ‘If we all die then there is no hope for the world’, he thought.
“We are not dead Ed”, Jason said with a look of concern on his face while he still fussing over him.
“But I drowned in the river.”
“No, you didn’t…”, Kana began but Ed cut him short.
“I know what I felt. I could feel the water filling my lungs; I couldn’t reach out of the water

. I know what happened.”
“Would you let us tell you what happened?” Kana asked and when he nodded she asked Jason to tell him what he told her.
“We had just eaten”, Jason began. “You decided to take a swim and you got into the water. After a while you came out of the water with your eyes glazed over like a globe of glass gasping for air and acting like you were drowning. You were screaming about how you were chosen to save the world and how you failed Jane your dead friend and put your friend and neighbor Kana in danger just by associating with her. You were still gasping for air and acting like you were drinking a lot of water then you said you didn’t wanna die because you weren’t a coward. I was shaking and calling you, trying to snap you out of it to no avail. All the while you were doing these; the seal on your chest was glowing. When you finally fell limp I hid you, stole a wagon and brought you here where Kana was meant to wait for us.”
Ed watched him with his mouth agape trying to get a grip on what he was hearing. He could remember the panic he felt when he tried to surface out of the water. He could still taste the water in his mouth, could still feel the pressure of water on his lungs, his bowels feeling like they’d explode; he could recall the numbness that enveloped him and the pain he felt till he couldn’t feel any more. It felt so real.
“Eddy!” Kana called out breaking into his thoughts. He looked up at her then pulled his legs up unto the chair and held them both with his two hands as he began to rock himself to and fro still trying to get rid of the feeling of death that was clinging to his insides. “It’s the seal”, she continued. “We need to get rid of it.”
“Who are you Kana…? Is that really your name?”
