Made - Episode 37

 

The atmosphere was filled with smoke and the smell of burnt mixture of stuff. I struggled to a sitting position trying to comprehend what had just happened. With my left hand i wiped off my fore head then brushed my hand slightly on my lips. I felt the taste of something fresh. With unknown urgency i touched the corner of my lips then looked at my fingers.

Blood.

 I let my eyes slowly adjust to bring into balance my environs. Slowly i made as if to stand but my legs were too weak to support me . I felt back to my sitting position feeling even weaker. My whole body was in pain and i did not know where it was originating from. As much as i wanted to sit i felt too fatigued to do so. Instead i lie down which felt more cormfortable. Inside i knew i should get out of there but my body was too weak to move. I ransacked my brain to remember what had happened.

David. David was all that was in my mind. 

"Da... Davi....David, Phil.. Mercy."  I made a feeble attempt to call for help.

"Davi...."

I tilted my eyes and squinted my eyes to adjust and bring into focus the hazy enviroment. 

"David." 

He was lying his white shirt soaked in blood trying to lift a block lying on top of him.

"Ba..a.. be." I called stretching my hands towards him.

"Over here." I heard Philip's voice call aloud

"We going to take care of you." He said while trying to make me feel cormfortable.

. he.. help him." I said while pointing towards David. Alone tear left my eye as i let myself slip into unconsciousness.

3 hours earlier

"Good morning love."

"Good morning sweetie."

"No way am kissing you, morning breath." I said while trying to get away from my husband hold.

"No need to fight loosing battles dear wifey." David reponded while gently but firmly placing me in position. He then kissed my resistance away leaving only me and him in the moment. I traced the back of his neck to his hair. I could do this the whole day.

"Not bad for morning breath huh?" He lifted his head then started another session of the kissing. With my other hand i reached for my phone and checked the time.

"8:00! We are so screwed..." we both jumped out of my bed.

"You let me sleep past waking time lazy wifey." David said jokingly.

"If i didn't help you with the files past midnight i would already be at work ungrateful husband."

With that i headed for the bathroom.

About thirty five minutes later we were in David's car ready for work. David was busy adjusting his tie looking at the front mirror. I tilted the mirror and pouted my lips while ignoring him.

"You know when you do something wrong i wont hesitate to punish you with my love. Its my pleasure."

He leaned towards me permeating the area with the scent of his perfume. He the proceeded to trace my neckline with his kisses. The blaring horn brought him to an abrupt stop.

"Mum! You could have given me a heart attack."

Rachael stood looking at us while smiling.

"You could be sued for showing us porn in public. Get a room son."

"Who is us."

Alicia emerged holding one hand over her eyes with a huge smile revealing her gap.

"I brought you some muffins."

David reached put for the small basket her mum had in hand.

"Bye mum ... we will come by your place after work." David said while engaging the gear."

"Take care of the house Alicia." I shouted at my younger sister. She was home for one week because of midterm break and had decided to spend the holiday with me. Rachael had long moved to a small condo David had brought her. We still lived in the company house which haboured so many good memories including our wedding day.

At 9:25 we reached work. Philip was now the general head of operations in the company. In other words everyone in the company reported to him. David had been promoted to Phil's initial position. Mercy was now Philip's personal assistant and Peter was still stuck with me. David's assistant Mary had not shown up to work the last two days and we were considering hiring someone for the position. In the meantime i had to help David with all the work Mary was supposed to take care of hence our late nights. 

After giving him a light peck on the cheek i alighted and headed for my office. Peter as usual was waiting for me with the reports. Instead of leaving them at my desk he made a point of waiting for me for small talk.

"Goodmorning baawse lady." He greated me as i enterd my office.

"Is eveything ready?" I asked knowing too well he had everything intact.

"You already know everything is ready. You just need to go shine infront of your boss."

"You make it sound easy."

"I know it is for you. You work hard to give me reports to compile. What is remaining is just a small portion. No brainer."

"If you say so." I responded while sitting down.

"I know so."

I let out a sigh as i look into the files Peter had just submitted. I noticed he was still hanging around which wasn't unusual but the look on his face was. 

"Everything okay?" I asked

"No ..i mean yes everything is fine."

"Why do you have that look on your face."

"I need your help with something."

"What is it?" I asked while rising up from my seat.

He sat on my office couch rubbing his palms together.

"I want to pop the question." He let out the statement. 

"You want to ask her to marry you? Wow Peter that's so great. Wait... why do you look so tensed?"

He stayed silent for a while.

"I wonder... i wonder what if she says no. What if...."

"Are you kidding me. Mercy loves you. I bet she has been wondering why you haven't popped the question yet."

"Maybe you are right."

"So when is it happening?"

"I already did?"

"You did? How ..."

Just then Mercy arrived tears streaming holding her ring case. Peter Immidiately went to his knees. 

"Baby will you marry me?"

"Yes of course i will."

I clapped and ulilated attracting the attention of David and Phil.

"Isn't this nice." David said unconsciously wrapping his hand around my waist.

"It is love."

"Well i hate to break this moment but David and Daniella we need to be heading for the boardroom. The meeting will be starting in five." Phil said while tucking his phone in his pocket. He had been using it to snap photos of Peter and Mercy.

David had his report with him because we had compiled it at home. I picked my report from the top of my desk then gave my best lady friend the tightest hug ever before leaving for the boardroom with David. 

I settled beside David on the conference room. We were about to start when Philip headed out to receive a call. He looked a bit pensive on the face.

. We had to wait for him before starting the meeting. 

David drummed the desk lightly as we continued to wait for Philip. I checked my watch. It was unlike Philip to recieve a call while we were supposed to start the meeting. Something was wrong. The dread i felt that day on the plane slowly returned. I shifted nervoursly on my chair.

"Everything okay Daniella?" David asked me 

"No... i don't know David i feel something bad is about to happen."

"How you mean?"

"Something is wr....."

I was interrupted by Philips voice which was now raised on the call. We all turned our gaze towards the door. I made to stand. 

"Nooo!" We heard Philip shout followed by a big bang then darkness.
