Reeva was busy cleaning some things on the shelf of her living room. Ruthie was making herself busy with some family album.

It was the following day and it was the Saturday morning. Some minutes later, Tracy came in with a tray which she placed on the table. In the tray were three cups and a jug of coffee. Carefully, she poured coffee in each cup and handed it to Ruthie and then Reeva before finally taking the last for herself.

“So, I have been doing some thinking.” Tracy started and the other paid attention.

“What is it mum?” Reeva asked.

Tracy continued with a smile, “I know that this may seem dumb but I actually think you and Andy are almost the same thing.”

“In what way?” Reeva asked.

“Well, you have been wanting to have a wedding party because of me all the while, because of what I experienced and he is trying not to have it because of what his father experienced, I don’t know if you can see any similarity between that.”

“There are no similarities.” Reeva started stubbornly, “he has been brainwashed since childhood but this is my own dream mum, there are no similarities anywhere.”

For a while Tracy and Ruthie were quiet until Ruthie sighed and spoke:

“I think you are right Tracy...”

“No, she isn’t right . Andy is stubborn and unreasonable and...”

“You are both stubborn

. If not, you both wouldn’t have decided to quit the relationship.” Ruthie explained.

“We decided because we both realized that we are two different people and...” Reeva continued but stopped. Her mother was right. She had been trying to do something for her mother, to make her proud and he has been trying to do what his father wanted, to make him proud. Her mother was right. “Oh!” She said, before sitting beside Ruthie as the realiation hit her.

Ruthie and Tracy exchanged glances and then looked at her. Ruthie put her arms around her.

“It’s okay that you two share same features, it is a good thing but the problem is that, times may come often, when        one of you will have to make a compromise.”

“And why should it be me?” Reeva demanded.

“No one said it should be you but sometimes, ego can ruin a relationship. Both of you can’t be heady at the same time, you need to let go because of peace and for your own happiness and so that things can go back to the way it used to be.” Tracy explained.

“But I can’t. Andy is stubborn; we have to compete on everything.” Reeva complained.

The older women sighed.

“Why do you have to compete on everything?” Ruthie asked.

“I don’t know.”

“Because you both want to have your ways?” Tracy asked.

“Urm...maybe.” Reeva replied. “We threw a coin concerning the engagement party you know.”

Ruthie gasped, “Wow, this is terrible, you both behaved like a child. Why would you not seek each other’s happiness first? You both are selfish and stubborn. How in the world did you last this long?”

“I have no idea.” Tracy replied.

“If your marriage is going to last, there are many things you need to put into place and selfishness with competition are not part of it.” Ruthie stated.

“Well, I will put that into consideration on my next relationship.” Reeva replied, now standing up.

“Hold on, your next relationship?” Tracy asked.

“Yes mum, you both don’t think that I am going to wait for Andy for long do you?”

The women exchanged glances again.

“So you don’t think that Andy would come back?” Tracy asked but Reeva faced Ruthie, “do you think that Michael will come back?”

Ruthie scoffed, “this is not about me young lady, this is about you. Are you sure you are ready to opt into another relationship when your breakup is not even up to a week?”

Reeva thought for a while, she wasn’t actually ready for any relationship anytime soon, but it gave her some pride, thinking she could just get rid of Andy within a day and get someone else the next day. She was tired of thinking about him and hoping that things would get better.

“No mum, at least, not when I am not over him. It hurts you know, I just keep wishing that things are different. I have waited this long and I have spent this much time with him than to just get over him within few days. I love him mum, too much.” She sobbed and Tracy gathered her in her arms.

“Tomorrow, we will be going back to my place okay, you need to leave this place for a while. Ruthie, do you mind coming with us?”

“I would love to render all the help I can render.” Ruthie replied.

“Besides, you both need to heal, I will take care of the both of you.” Tracy stated with a chuckle.

Andy inhaled a deep breath. Both Ruthie and Reeva’s numbers were not reachable and he was getting deeply frustrated.

His phone rang and he quickly picked it, thinking it was Skybae.

“Hello.”

“Hello Mr. Andy, it’s the doctor.”

He was disappointed, “Okay what is it?”

“Your father wants to talk to you.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know but he asked me to call you over.”

“Well, tell that I am not coming anywhere.”

The doctor winced, “but he is your father.”

“Yes and he is ruining my life. Don’t call me again, Adams is there, he will help.” With this he ended the call and gasped. He was exhausted internally and externally.

He decided to call Skybae but it was unreachable as well.

“Oh, no, no. Don’t do this to me. Please.” He tried it again but it was the same thing. Now he knew that Reeva was behind this, she just didn’t want him to get in touch.

Again his phone rang, this time it was his friend, John.

“Hello.” He said sadly.

“Dude, whass’up, did you get in touch with her?”

“No I didn’t. Called Skybae as well, seemed she must have told them something and they do not want to break the girls code or something. I don’t know man, I am just so tired.”

“What about  your father, how is he doing?”

“I don’t know either. The doctor called that he wanted to see me but I sent him to hell.”

“You should try and forgive your father Andy, he was doing what he thought was best.”

“Look, I will forgive him but I have to find Reeva and Ruthie first.”

“SO what if they do not want to be found?”

“What are you saying?”

“What if you don’t get to have Reeva back...and Ruthie doesn’t want to come back?”

“Oh they will.” Andy replied and continued, “Adams played an audio for me, from Ruthie. She wants me to find her but she wants me to do the right thing first and with everything , I think the right thing is to find Reeva and apologise to her.”

“So, have you called her apartment?”

“No one picked.”

“How about her mother?”

Andy was quiet, he had never thought about that. “Her mother?”

“Yes dude.”

“You think she will be there?”

“I bet she is there, where else will she go?”

“Wow! You are a genius John, I will get my things and leave immediately.”

“Good. But sort things out with your father....”

“Bye John, will let you know as it goes.”

Andy ended the call and quickly climbed out of the bed, John was a genius. He thought of calling Mrs. Jones but, no, he would only go there and take them by surprise, he wouldn’t be surprised if Skybae and the girls were also there.

**

“So, he doesn’t want to talk to me?” Michael asked as the Doctor got off the phone.

“I’m sorry Mr. Michael, but he banged the call on me.”

Michael sighed, he knew that this was going to happen. “Please, call my butler for me, he should be waiting outside.”

“Okay.” The doctor left.

Michael was worried, everything he held dear was leaving him and it was breaking his heart. He wished his son would just understand that he was trying to protect him from getting his heart broken. He never knew that what he did was wrong, he was just finding out and , he made a terrible mistake.

Adams came in alone.

“Hello sir, you sent for me?”

“Yes Adams, how are you?”

“Fine sir, but how are you?”

“I feel terrible Adams. My son hates me, Ruthie left me, I hate myself. Why doesn’t he realize that I was trying to protect him? I made a terrible mistake and now I am regretting everything. I wish I hadn’t done it in the first place. I feel so bad Adams, I am so afraid that I think I might die of heart break soon.”

“Oh no. Do not die now sir, you are still young and agile and you can still fix things.”

“What things do I have to fix? Ruthie wouldn’t unbar my line, Andy wouldn’t speak to me, what am I supposed to do than to just die?”

Adams sighed and walked closer to him. “I know that you did what you thought was best for you and your son. You were only trying to be a good father because of what happened to you.”

“Yes.”

“Give him time, he is trying to win Reeva back, hopefully when he does, he won’t waste time in coming back to reconcile with you.”

Michael sighed again, “I hope it won’t be too late for that Adams.”

“Now that we have been talking about your son, what about you and Ruthie?”

Michael was quiet, he bit his lower lip. “I know I don’t deserve her for sure. I have loved that woman for a long time and I trust her with my life. She knows that I do.”

“But did you tell her?”

“That was the problem, I never got to tell her how much I trusted her with my heart and how much I was willing to risk for her. I love her more than anything I have ever loved in my life. She took care of my child. Something that his own mother was incapable of doing. Believe me, I owe her everything and I really want to spend the rest of my life with her.

How I wish she is here to hear me say all these things. I think it is too late Adams, I messed up.” He lamented.

“There is something you need to listen to.”

“What is that Adams?”

Adams brought out his phone and played the second audio from Ruthie.

“Hello Michael, if you are listening to this, that means I have left you and that means you have finally discovered your flaws. I know that you were trying to be a good father but you keep making me realize that I am not part of your family by not considering everything I said about allowing your son to make his own mistakes. I have spent so many years with you and that you don’t trust me is like I wasted half of my year. I have gone and I am not coming back unless a miracle happens. I love you Michael but if you cannot let me in and trust me enough despite all these years, then maybe you care incapable of loving or trusting anybody.

Read " Broken-Broken " by the same author ( Tobi Loba )

. Farewell, Ruthie.”

Michael sighed, “you had this all this time?”

“Yes I did.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I am sorry but I had a strict warning  not to play anything until you accept your blame.”

“She said unless a miracle happens, what miracle is that Adams?”

He shrugged, “I have no idea.”

“You said Andy is out to look for Reeva?”

“Yes.”

“Does he have a recorded audio too?”

“Yes.”

“Then play it, let me listen, I  might have a clue on how to bring her back.”

Adams nodded and played the audio again:

“Hello Son, my darling, Andy. If you are listening to this, that means that you have discovered that I left your father and I do hope that by then it wouldn’t be too late.

I realize that your mother had done so much on your father that he now lives with a perpetual fear of being hurt again. It is this fear that he has instilled into you as a child because I see no reason in not trusting the woman you love, the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with.

You are a good son Andy, but you are becoming like your father and I am not going to stay around to watch you waster your years in loneliness and misery. Reeva loves you so very much just like I love your father but I cannot stay and get further hurt. I am afraid that I have wasted much years caring for you both and my lessons on your emotional life has yielded no result. Your father is a big disappointment and I see you turning into one. I cannot stay and watch you waste away like that.

I hope you realize that everything I have been saying all this while has been for your own good. Don’t try to find me,but where all is set right, there you will find me. I love you son! Ruthie.”

Michael sighed, a smile spread across his lips, “they really cared for each other.”

Adams nodded. “Yes.”

“Well, then I think I know where Ruthie is and I know we can bring her back.”

“How?”

“She said unless a miracle happens, she didn’t say either a good one or a bad one did she?”

“No.”

“Then let’s make it happen, get me the doctor.”

Adams looked at his boss suspiciously but was quiet, he had no idea what was going on. “Okay.” He said and left the room.

Michael grinned, he had the perfect plan to bring everyone together again and he really hoped that it would work.
