“I really can’t believe you will be going to OT next week,” Pristin yelled, starring at the acceptance letter in her hand. They were all at Mrs. Jones house, and in Reeva’s room.

“Better believe it, she is going,” Skybae replied, turning to Reeva, who was busy writing things down from her phone.

“What are you doing Reeva, aren’t you done with the list yet?”

Reeva sighed. “You have no idea how much books I am supposed to buy for . They are just so many. How will I ever survive this?”

Pristin almost laughed. “You should have considered that before applying. What in the world were you thinking? “

Reeva shrugged. “Well, I wasn’t really thinking.” She stopped and turned around to face her friends. “I know for years, you all must have seen how unserious I take things without any future plan. I mean, I don’t even have any idea on what I am going to do after school ...”

“And now you are going to OT. How does that even work?” Skybae cut in.”Are you going just because someone broke up with you or what?”

Reeva shook her head. “I am going to make a meaning out of my life

. I am going to show the world that I can be a better person, in fact, the next time Tony sees me, and he can go ahead and kiss my ass.”

Skybae sighed. “Please don’t tell me that you are making this huge change because of a man.”

“Hell no!” Reeva sputtered. “I am doing this for me. I think it will make me become the person that I need to be. This therapist that I and my mum have been seeing is doing a lot of work and she has really helped me to discover a light in my dark whole change and I really want to make it work. I want to be a better person for myself and for the next person who will be coming into my life.”

The other two exchanged glances.

“I see, you are really taking the therapy seriously,” Skybae commented.

“Yes, apart from that my mum is paying her a fortune, she is really doing a great job for me and I love it. In lieu of this, I have decided to take my life more seriously and I want everyone who knows me and who cares about me, including my friends to understand that .”

“Well, we are happy that things are working very well for you Reeva and we really wish you the best. So, while preparing, what else do you think we need to help you do?”

“Well, why don’t you help me shop? Most of my clothes do not fit into the rules of the school.” Reeva replied and they all laughed.

SAME TIME AT ABUJA

“Do you think I should take this shirt along?” Andy asked, showing Ruthie one of the shirts he picked from the closet.

The woman frowned. “Why would you need to pack one of your old shirts? We already shopped and packed the new shirts. Besides, there is no more space for you to put it.”

Andy gasped. “That is a lie Ruthie; it is just a simple shirt. I just love it. Maybe I will wear it when I’m going.”

“Well, that will be better; because I cannot start repacking things I spent time packing.”

“We can do it together.” Andy suggested with a grin but the older woman groaned.

“You mean sitting down and talking about unimportant things while I do the actual packing?” Ruthie asked, returning the laundry basket to where she had picked it from.

“Yes, consider it as a moral support.”

“No thanks. “ Ruthie replied.

Andy chuckled and walked to the mirror. “I’m going to wear it to the new school all the same.” He said, accessing his beards.

Ruthie watched him proudly. “You are becoming a man gradually Son. All those ladies will be in a serious trouble.” She said with a chuckle.

“Dad was saying something about girls to me the last time. He is worried that I will be spending money lavishly on women. Why would he think that?”

Ruthie chuckled. “Well, that is because he doesn’t want you to suffer like he did.” She sat on the bed and continued. “Your father loved your mother very much, their wedding was like the biggest I have ever seen.  He gave her everything, she never lacked for anything. It was a shame when your mother left  him for another man. It crippled every trust he had in a woman.”

Andy sighed. “That must have been very tough.”

“Yea. It was. I was there. Your father used to be bigger and richer than how he is right now.” She chuckled. “He gave her his power of attorney and she just took away everything from him, leaving him with nothing. It was a very wicked thing that your mother did.”

Andy knew all this. He has heard this many times but he still couldn’t understand why his mother would do such a thing.

“I still don’t get this. Did she never love my father at all or how could she be that mean?”

“Well, she loved your father. No one knows what happened to her. Your father loved her so much that he didn’t even press charges against her. He wanted her to be found. However, when she was found, her corpse was all that remained, the police couldn’t trace everything she took or whoever she must have given it to. It was obvious that someone had tricked her into tricking your father.”

Andy sighed. He never liked hearing that part. It always filled him with an inexplicable fury and he hated the mother, he never knew.

“Well, I will never love any woman, let alone allow her to make a fool out of me.”

Ruthie smiled. “You know I’m a woman right?”

“But you are like a mother to me. I am talking about being in a relationship.”

“I understand but dear child, it doesn’t work that way. You need love.

. Love is a beautiful thing. Your father was just unfortunate to have loved the wrong woman. I hope that doesn’t happen to you.”

“The problem my father had was falling in love and getting married and setting up this huge commitment for himself when his wife never even gave a shit about it. She was a monster and I hope she rots in hell. That is not going to happen to me, I am not going to love any woman and even if I do, there will be no wedding, what is the purpose of saying all those commitments when you are both not going to stick to them?”

Ruthie felt sorry for him. He could be so stupid and stubborn when he was angry but she knew that he could be saying something that would take him through so many years to come and any woman that would change that conviction would really need to work so hard.

“Andy, sometimes, you need to trust the other person.”

“Trust is weakness Ruthie, father made me realize that.”

“Yes, it is weakness but it can also be a sort of strength for you, especially when you are with the right person.”

“But how do you know the right person Ruthie? Didn’t dad know that my mom was the wrong person before loving her? How do you not fall for the wrong person?”

“Sometimes, you just have to have faith. Sometimes, you need love and trust to be happy, son. One thing is certain, once you meet the right person, you will know.”

NOW LET'S PUT IT IN MIND THAT THE STORY HASN'T STARTED YET. ALSO I WANT TO USE A WHOE NEW STYLE FOR THIS STORY. SOON I WILL BE USING 'NOW' AND 'THEN' TO REFER TO THE PAST AND THE PRESENT. SO DON'T BE CONFUSED, ITS GOOD TO ALWAYS TRY SOMETHING NEW, BESIDES, YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS, iIM HERE FOR YOU.
