Survival
In a certain village, there lived a beautiful young maiden called Monica. She was an illiterate but from a humble background. She was wise and intelligent, but never had the opportunity of a formal education. Her parents cherished her so much because she was their only surviving child. Her father thought and worried daily about, how to care and send her to school.
Monica's father was a humble and hardworking man who started the journey of life after the mysterious occurrence that took the life of his parents while he was still an adolescent. The sad event of his parent’s death befell him with weakness that he struggled all through his entire life just to make a living
. He started rendering farm work labor to people two months later after the death of his parent in order to survive.
He worked to the satisfaction of his employers, but yet, was paid little amount of money. Nevertheless, he did not stop working until he gained true friendship from a co-worker who was also an orphan, who later happened to be the mother of his only child, Monica.
Their friendship grew to an extent that they cared for, advised and supported each other. Later on, they decided to start up their own farm work. So they did, and started working together as partners

They did not make much money from all they cultivated, but for the fact that they were able to manage, as well as making decision on their own gave them enough joy, that they were motivated to work hard. It happened that the excitement was from the money they realized from the sales of their harvested crops. It was so much more than they had actually dreamed of. They celebrated: ate, drank, sang and danced together. At the peak of their, they had a merry mood, they made love which resulted to an unwanted pregnancy. She discovered her pregnancy after some weeks. She had to let the news out, but couldn’t, because she was scared of what his reaction would be if he heard about it.

Monica's father noticed a change in her mood and her obvious loss of strength showed that she was not alright. So he questioned her to know if she was okay, but she answered: "yes, I'm fine". For the fact that she used to be a happy and hardworking lady bothered him and made him wonder what might have gone wrong with her. He could not keep his eyes off her, until she collapsed some minutes after. He rushed to her aid with immediate alacrity to reduce the effect of her fall. Thereafter, he administered to her first aid treatment to help boost her strength. Afterward, he vehemently demanded to know what was wrong with her, else he would have nothing to do with her, since he was not ready to bear the consequences of something he knew nothing about. At that moment, she wept so bitterly, having been left with no other option other than let him know her condition. He was not equally pleased with the news, not because he never planned to have it occur that way, but for the fact that it had happened, he accepted the responsibility and promised her his full support in raising the baby with her. She was excited for not been abandoned with her unborn child and happily moved into his house to live on together with him as husband and wife even though no marriage rite had been made. She gave birth to a baby girl several months later.
