“You can’t be serious.”
Franca blurted at me as we got to the room we had paid for. I said nothing, I just dropped my purse and journal on the table…
“She can’t have your man and have your wedding gown….you told me this had been your dream girl!”
I was still quiet as I collapsed on the bed, but she kept talking as she sat down with me…
“Don’t you give up hope on yourself Scarlett, he can still be yours. I saw the way he was looking at you and looking at her . He doesn’t want her! Any sane person would see the chemistry between you both! You can still make it work! Scarlett!”
“Maybe it doesn’t need to work!” I finally exploded as tears of disappointment and jealousy flooded down my cheeks. This was so stupid but it hurt so bad.
“What do you mean by that?” Franca demanded, I coulnd’t stand the pitiful look she was giving me.
“Maybe it is supposed to happen like this.” I said more calmly, not bothering t wipe the tears.
“Why would you say that? You have been looking for this man ever since you made it here in Kenya! It was because of him you couldn’t make it work with Mark. What were the odds of his wife asking you to be her designer if not that God has brought you two together for a reason!”
I shook my head…

Franca’s hands were on my head and cheek, pacifying me but I wasn’t listening.

. We had booked this hotel for three days before, atleast to have a break from the hustle bustle of our workplace…
“We are leaving tomorrow, we can’t stay here for those three days.”
“Scarlett…..” She started, trying to talk further but I gave her no chance.
“Franca, you gave up all hope to marry, remember, I can equally do the same.”
“No baby, I gave up hope because my husband died and cos I loved him so much and I don’t wanna love any other again. I am happy with that decision and it is quite different from yours. You are blocking your route to happiness….”
“My life just got better…I had a rough childhood. Even if I want to marry Lawrence, it would be selfish of me don’t you think so? He has a wife who can give him a child and….” I couldn’t continue again as I exploded into tears while Franca gathered me in her arms…

LAWRENCE
“Do I need to be worried?”
Dafi finally asked as we settled in….
“About what?” I asked with a languid interest, I had so much in my mind and she wasn’t even part of it.
“About you and our designer.” She said with a smile, while walking to sit on my laps, wrapping her arms around my neck.
I tried not to betray my emotions. “ Why would you need to be worried?”
“Cos, maybe I sensed something between you too. As if you both had some history together and you didn’t want to share?”
I laughed as if she just cracked a terrible joke. “ You are funny love. What history can be there? Remember I never stepped into Kenya before right?” Then I pinched her on her butt to make her stand up while I fetched myself a bottle of drink.
“You still didn’t answer my question Lawrence.” She said, half-smiling.
I looked at her. “Didn’t I?...Oh, baby, I forgot, I need to call my father, he must be havng an heart attack already.” I said , standing up to pick my phone and going out at the same time.
“Where are you going?”
“I will be back love.” I shouted to her before locking the door behind me. I do not care what I would have to do or how much people I would have to bribe. This night, I am not sleeping until I find and talk to her!
